MAP OF THE GROUNDS THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Faith & Movie Class Do you like to watch movies --old favorites and unfamiliar titles? Do you like to discuss the stories and themes in movies, and relate them to our sacred stories and faith? If so, this is the class for you. Class members choose a movie for everyone to watch during the week and then lead the discussion in class. Leaders: Marty and Vicky Wilder, Susan Worrel and John Iacunato Location: Middle House, 1 st floor. Our Preschool - 1 st grade classes will to use the Growing in Grace and Gratitude Curriculum. Our 2 nd -3 rd grades classes will use the lectionary based Feasting on the Word, the 4 th -7 th grade classes will use a PC(USA) curriculum for tweens and younger youth, and our 9 th -12 th grade classes will use a variety of materials. Beyond the Wild Goose (Exploring the Holy Spirit) What do flame, dove, ghost, comforter, water, breath, paraclete, wind and wild goose have in common? All are images for the third Person of the Trinity, a.k.a. The Holy Spirit. Together we will examine biblical, ecclesial, and theological text and traditions from across the centuries. We will also draw from class members experience through personal stories of faith, call, conversion and inspira- tion . Join us for a fresh look at a powerful, engaged (and frequently mischaracterized) Person of the Trinity. Leader: The Rev. Allen H. Fisher, Jr. Location: Undercroft A Study in Religious Literacy This class will enhance our cultural competency, civic responsibility and exercise of faith. Inspired by Stephen Prothero’s book Religious Literacy - What Every American Needs to Know and Doesn’t. We will take a look a many of the world’s religions with our main focus this fall on some of the lesser known religions. Leader: The Rev. Anders Pedersen Location: Church House, 1 st floor FOR ADULTS The Christian Education Committee invites all children, youth, and adults to a new year of learning and growing together in our Christian faith. We begin with breakfast on Sunday, September 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Members are asked to bring a dish to share - singles & couples - one dish, families with 3 or more - two dishes. They can be casseroles, fruit, donuts, bagels, etc. Beverages will be provided. We encourage everyone to make Church School a regular part of their Christian journey. Parenting Class The Parenting Class will explore the distinct differences and challenges that arise when parenting boys and/or girls. Using the books Untangled (guiding teenage girls through the 7 transitions into adulthood) by Lisa Damour and Wild Things (the art of nurturing boys) by Stephen James and David Thomas, we will study and discuss the unique issues for each gender and how best to parent them.
