FINDING MEANING IN A BROKEN WORLD

We all have this drive or longing in us for something that is beyond satisfying. Some call it an

incompleteness or perpetual disquiet and we strive to satisfy that longing through various ways –

money, power, sex, even hate can drive us. But there is another way of satisfying that longing and

that way is by choosing/deciding to turn our focus on God. Living a spiritual life is actually a series

of choices made in the moment throughout our lifetime that shape our lives.

In order to do that we have to give up something. Some call it a transformation or a death to self.

St John says it this way: Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains but a

single grain but if it dies it yields a rich harvest (John 12:24)

This process most often moves us from an impulse to control God by prayer and works or to control

or understand Him by human reasoning to trust and have faith in Him. We let go of our whys,

where’s and how’s and simply trust. We let go of our anxieties, brokenness, fears, and our prejudice

our impatience, our self-centeredness our jealousies and yes, our regrets, disappointments, failures,

mistakes and sins and let God give us peace, strength and new dreams. All those things, which so

occupied us, now come as challenges that strengthen and deepen the new purpose and life we have

discovered. Our suffering, struggles, pain won’t be easier or go away perhaps but we are no longer

controlled by them. We have come to know that everything that happens is part of our way to the

Father.

But there is another dimension to this transformation. Faith demands consequences: our Faith

demands action. When Jesus called Simon and Andrew, James and John and yes, you and me, he

did not call us to ‘do’ something He called us to be something. When we respond to that call of

Christ within us to be Christian in all our actions, then we become who we are meant to be. Our

lives become His story, the story of God at work in the world.

We have this hope that our lives have meaning. And if our lives have meaning then all our choices

have meaning too. What are your hopes and dreams – for yourself, your children, church,

community, and nation? What sustains that hope and turns those dreams into reality? What gives

your life meaning?

Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal 2018

There are so many reasons why the Appeal is important, not only to those in need in the Archdiocese, but also to us, in our parish community. Your support of the Appeal helps countless people, and sustains the fabric of our ministries throughout our parishes. Cardinal Dolan is asking you to participate by making a gift to this important annual initiative. The archdiocesan goal for the 2018 Appeal is $20 million. And our individual parish goal here at Infant Saviour is $39,000. At present we have received 29 gifts totaling $5,400.00. I ask that your prayerfully consider your gift. It is only with your support that this campaign can be a success. We all have in our hearts the capacity to give as Jesus asked us to do.

You can also make an online gift

today at www.cardinalsappeal.org. Thank you for your generosity.

In light of repeated tragic events that have occurred in recent years, the Archdiocese of New York has begun a program to

protect its parishioners and clergy, "Operation

Archangel." Infant Saviour is recruiting parishioners with

law enforcement, military, security and first responder backgrounds, both active and retired, to address potential threats. Those who have already taken an Oath to Protect the Innocent can now take a stand by, once again, protecting their own Church and Faith Community. Please prayerfully consider becoming a volunteer for Operation Archangel here at Infant Saviour Parish. To find out more about Operation Archangel, please contact Ken Finnegan at (917) 549-1674. Thank you and God Bless You.

If you are not a registered Parishioner and would like to register or have a change of address, please fill out form and drop in collection basket or mail to the Rectory.
