GOSPEL: john 1:1-5, 9-14 The images of seeing and hearing continue in the gospel. John tells us that what we hear and see is God's own Son, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. He came among us as one of us for our hu-man eyes to see and love and welcome. Jesus came to be with us, to teach us about his Father, and to tell us about God's kingdom. What can we do to show Jesus that we love and welcome him? We can worship him. We can talk with him, telling him of our hopes and dreams. We can try to be people who bring his peace and light and joy everywhere we go. 1.) One of the themes of this gospel is light. How does light "reveal" what is in a dark place? 2.) What is darkness in our world? What is light? 3.) When someone speaks, that person's words can reveal what they are like. Sometimes Jesus is called "the Word of God." Find the places in this gospel where we are told something about the Word.

EVANGELIO: Juan 1:1-5, 9-14 Las imágenes de ver y escuchar continúan en el evangelio. Juan nos dice que vemos y escuchamos al verdadero Hijo de Dios, Jesucristo, la Palabra hecha carne. El vino como uno de nosotros para que nuestros ojos humanos vean, amen y le den la bienvenida. Jesús viene a estar con nosotros, a en-señarnos sobre su Padre y a hablarnos del reino de Dios. ¿Qué podemos hacer para mostrar a Jesús que lo amamos y le damos la bienvenida? Pode-mos adorarlo. Podemos hablar con él, contarle nuestras esperanzas y sueños. Podemos tratar de ser gente que lleve su paz y su luz y gozo donde-quiera que vayan. 1.) Uno de los temas del evangelio es luz. ¿Cómo la luz "revela" lo que hay en la oscuridad? 2.) ¿Dónde hay oscuridad en el mundo? ¿Dónde hay luz? 3.) TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

An old joke asks, “What time is Midnight Mass?” The answer is not really obvious, since Christmas is unique in having sev-eral distinct celebrations. The readings and prayers vary greatly from hour to hour. The Vigil Mass hinges on the family heri-tage of Jesus and his origins. The concept of “midnight” predates clock time, and really has to do with a celebration in the hours of darkness. Years ago, it was not possible to receive Communion without fasting for a full day, so the late hour of this Mass made it possible for the people to receive. The first Mass after sunrise, the Mass at Dawn, was once known as “The Shepherds’ Mass,” and later Masses set aside stories of Jesus’ birth to focus on the key to the day’s celebration: John the Evangelist’s majestic theology of Christ’s identity as the Word made flesh, dwelling among us. One feast, four separate Masses. Only monasteries manage the whole round. Parishioners typically take just one entry point into the mystery. Yet there is much to savor and celebrate in the coming of Christ into the world. Christmas is not a day, but a season. You still have two weeks to send those Christmas cards before you’re officially late!

End Parish Debt:

Thank You! $198, 013 has now been pledged

to the Centennial Anniversary Plan to end the parish debt. This will enable Church of the Epiphany to expand ministries and services for youth, families, seniors and the needy.

Father Eugene Tungol and the Finance Council thanks all those who have pledged and asks every parish-

ioner to support this important appeal.

We are trying to raise as much as possible to finally end our parish

debt of $300,000. ANY PLEDGE—REGARDLESS OF

THE AMOUNT—IS WELCOME AND VERY MUCH NEEDED.

Pledges can be made in one payment or over 12, 24, or 36 months.

Epiphany School Open House: There will be an Open House for prospec-tive families to learn about Epiphany School on Saturday, January 21st, 2012 beginning at 2:30pm in the school cafete-ria. Come meet the teachers, students, ad-ministration, and parents and find out more about the school’s program. Applica-tions will be available for the 2012-2013 school year. Come enjoy refreshments and participate in a raffle.

Les queremos agradecer a todos los quie-nes nos ayudaron hacer esta Navidad tan maravillosa. Todos los que donaron al Árbol de Navidad, los que donaron plan-tas, todos nuestros Lectores y Ministros Eucarísticos, todos los que participaron y asistieron a la Novena Parroquial, los ayu-daron decorar y limpiar la iglesia, todos los que dieron una donación para Navidad y a todos los que hemos olvidado. Epifanía esta muy agradecida y bendecida de tener amigos como usted. ¡Gracias y que Dios les llene el Año Nuevo con paz, buena salud y amor!

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Además de conmemorar la llegada del Niño Dios, la Navidad en Latinoamérica es un acontecimiento hecho en familia; una celebración de reconciliación. Todos anhelamos la armonía en nuestras relacio-nes humanas, especialmente en los días festivos y nada arruina una buena fiesta como los pleitos y los rencores. Por eso durante la época navideña hagamos todo lo posible por corregir errores cometidos durante el año con amigos y parientes. Muchas veces estas faltas son imposibles de arreglar, por lo cual Dios nos aconseja el perdón y la reconciliación. Una parábola latinoamericana narra que la “poinsettia,” o flor de pascua, con sus bellas hojas verdes y rojas nace del regalo que un pobre chiquillo le hizo al niño Dios. Mientras otros le daban oro y joyas el muchachito no tenía más que una hierbita. Este don agradó al Niño Dios quien lo transformó en la flor de Navidad. El perdonar puede ser amargo como una hierba, pero es el don que agrada más al Niñito Jesús quien lo transforma en recon-ciliación. Al buscar la reconciliación imi-temos al Dios recién nacido, quien busca la armonía con la humanidad.
