2222aa,, 2277--2288,, 3333--3344aa,, 3377 Today's Gospel from Matthew is one of the most intense accounts of the way Jesus changed things. "You have heard it said" he begins each part of his teaching and then goes on to say, "But I say to you." He does what he said he would do: not abolishing the laws of God, but fulfilling them. He never says, "You have heard it said ‘You shall not kill’ but I say it's okay." On the contrary, Jesus’ teaching requires more—don’t be angry or name-call. In fact, Jesus says, if you are going to offer your gift at the altar and remember that your brother has anything against you, leave the gift and go be reconciled. We are called to keep the commandments, of course, but we are called to even more. 1.) Which of Jesus' teachings in today's Gospel do you find most difficult? 2.) What "yes"or "no" that God asks is most challenging for you?

En el Evangelio de hoy, San Mateo es una de las narraciones más intensas acerca de la forma en que Jesús vino a cambiar las cosas. Occasionally Catholics ask, "Why is the Church always talking about money?" In the United States, the Church manages itself without government interference or support, so all the money for Church ministries must come from us. We are called to support the Church financially in three ways. The first is the weekly parish offertory, which is used for all parish expenses. Our money in the collection ensures that we can serve and be served as Christ calls us. The second way is through contributions to our diocese to fund ministries and programs too complicated for any single parish to provide, such as training clergy, educational and social services, and marriage and family ministries. The third way is in special or second collections benefitting worthy causes in our parish, diocese, or beyond. We choose which of these to support and in what amount. If you are feeling ill or think you may have been exposed to a virus, you should refrain from partaking of the Blood of Christ from the communal chalice. In the same way, you should refrain from offering your hand to others at the sign of peace. Likewise if you are not comfortable sharing the sign of peace or receiving Holy Communion from the communal chalice for fear of infection, you should feel no pressure to do so. All of us must be aware of such sensitive matters in the intimate life of the Christian community and we should expect that some will refrain from the sign of peace and the communal chalice out of care for our well being and not out of unkindness or a lack of piety.

HHOOLLYY LLAANNDD PPIILLGGRRIIMMAAGGEE Epiphany has organized a fifteen day pilgrimage from November 7, 2020 to November 21, 2020 and will be travelling to Egypt, the Holy Land and Jordan with Fr. Eugene Tungol leading as the chaplain for the group. Sites that will be visited on the pilgrimage include: Mount Sinai, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth and Petra. It is a sign of consideration for others that those with flu-like symptoms remain at home. RREETTRROOUUVVAAIILLLLEE This Christian ministry is responsible for providing the tools to help save many tens of thousands of marriages and families over the last forty plus years. The program consists of a weekend experience followed by a series of post weekend sessions. Epiphany wants to make our parishioners and visitors aware of this family saving program. About 50% of married couples are likely to need help at some point. Retrouvaille is NOT group therapy and couples are not asked to share their problems or story with anyone else. The program focuses on teaching communication skills between a husband and wife. Couples are guided through the weekend by three presenting couples and a Catholic priest. The program is open to those of all faith traditions as well as those with no faith beliefs. You qualify as an “in parish” couple if you live within the parish boundaries or, have been registered and active for six months; or if you’re an alumni of School of the Epiphany. 2. If you do not meet one of the qualifications above, then you are considered an “outside of the parish” couple. Contact the parish office at least six months prior to the date of your proposed wedding to participate in our marriage preparation program.

Our Spiritual Journey begins as we depart the USA on our transatlantic flight to Milan, Italy. Dinner and Breakfast will be served in flight.

Tuesday, October 12, 1999 MILAN

Upon arrival at Milan Airport, we will be met by our Local Representative and then take a short orientation City Tour of Milan including Milan Cathedral, Church of St. Mary of Grace (Santa Maria delle Grazie), The Duomo and the Center of the Town. Afternoon at leisure in Milan to rest after our long flight. Dinner and Overnight at our Hotel.

Wednesday, October 13, 1999 MILAN/VERONA/PADUA

After Breakfast at our Hotel, we depart Milan on our way to Verona. Arrival at Verona, and a short visit to the Center of the Town. Later, we continue to Padua, home of St. Anthony, Patron Saint of ‘Things Lost’. Holy Mass at the Basilica built in his honor. Dinner and Overnight in Padua.

VENICE

Breakfast at our Hotel. Then we drive to Venice, one of the world’s unique cities. We celebrate Holy Mass at St. Mark’s Cathedral, after which we stroll through the Square, visiting Doges Palace and the Bridge of Sights. After spending time in beautiful Venice, we return to our Hotel in Padua for Dinner and Overnight.

Today, we will have Breakfast at our Hotel and then take our motorcoach and drive to Pisa, the historic town situated on the Arno River. We visit the Piazza Dei Miracoli, the Cathedral and Baptistery with its famous Organ & Echo, and the world-renewed Leaning Tower. After Holy Mass, we continue to Florence. Dinner and Overnight at Our Hotel.

Saturday, October 16, 1999

FLORENCE

Morning Breakfast and Holy Mass, followed by a guided tour of Florence. We visit the Academy Museum to see the original painting of David, onto the Cathedral S. Maria Del Fiore, the Duomo, the Baptistery with the Golden doors of Ghiberti, Giotto’s Bell Tower and onto the historical center of the town Piazza Della Signoria. Afternoon at leisure in Florence for a time of relaxation. Dinner and Overnight at our Hotel.

FLORENCE/SIENA/ASSISI

This morning, after Breakfast, we drive through the wine region to the city of Sienna, birthplace of St. Catherine, Virgin and Doctor of the Church. Our short visit will include the Cross from which St. Catherine received the Stigmata. We stroll through the silent narrow streets from the central square of Piazza Del Campo, to the Piazza Del Duomo, overshadowed by the tall marble Cathedral. Continue to Assisi. Dinner and Overnight at our Hotel.

Monday, October 18, 1999 ASSISI/SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO

Holy Mass and Breakfast in Assisi. Morning Tour of the places associated with St. Francis and Santa Clara, including the Basilica of St. Francis, the Crypt and spend time shopping for religious items. In the afternoon, continue to San Giovanni Rotondo. Arrival and transfer to our Hotel for Dinner and Overnight. Monday, October 19, 1999

S.G.ROTONDO/LANCIANO/ROME

Depart Assisi after Breakfast to San Giovanni where we first visit the Church of St. Maria Delle Grazie, then pay a visit to the Tomb of the Capuchin monk blest with the Stigmata for 50 years. Continue to Lanciano, site of the 8th century ‘Miracle of the Eucharist’ displayed in the Monstrance. Continue to Rome. Arrival and transfer to our Hotel for Overnight.

Tuesday, October 20, 1999 ROME

After breakfast, we begin our day with Mass at the Vatican and then visit the Vatican Museum, Tapestries Gallery, Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Library, and later we visit Christian Rome. Overnight at our Hotel.

Day 1 - Saturday, November 7, 2020 DEPART SAN FRANCISCO

Our pilgrimage begins as we depart San Francisco on flight EK226 to Dubai, at 3:40pm.

Day 2 - Sunday, November 8, 2020 ARRIVE CAIRO

Arrive Dubai at 7:25pm. Then transfer to flight EK925 to Cairo, at 8:50pm. Arrive Cairo at 11:05pm, where we will be welcomed by our tour guide and bus driver. We will transfer to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 - Monday, November 9, 2020 CAIRO

This morning, we visit the Salah Din Citadel, then we will visit the old Cairo churches: Saint George, Saint Barbara, the Abu Serga and the Hanging Church. Afterwards, we will go to the Khan Khalil Bazar for some shopping.

Day 4 – Tuesday, November 10, 2020

MUSEUMS / PYRAMIDS / SPHINX / NILE RIVER CRUISE We explore the Egyptian Museum rich with history and we admire the treasures of King Tutankhamen. Then to the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. We enjoy a dinner on the Nile river cruise, then return to the hotel for overnight.

Day 5 - Wednesday, November 11, 2020 CAIRO / MORGANLAND VILLAGE

After breakfast, we drive through the Sinai Peninsula, seeing the Suez Canal and many oases on our way to our lodging near St. Catherine Monastery.

Day 6 - Thursday, November 12, 2020 MOUNT SINAI / ST. CATHERINE / TABA

A wake-up call at 2:00am for those who wish to make the four-hour climb to the top of Mount Sinai, which is believe to be the location where Moses received the Ten Commandments. Down to St. Catherine Monastery, built in the 6th century to protect what was believed to be the Burning Bush. Then we continue to Taba for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 - Friday, November 13, 2020 BORDER CROSSING / JERICHO / RIVER JORDAN / BETHANY /

JERUSALEM We will cross the border to Israel. In Jericho we will view the Mount of

Temptation, the ruins of Old Jericho. Then onto the River Jordan to renew our baptismal vows. We stop in Bethany and visit the Church of Mary and Martha and see the tomb of Lazarus. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 8 - Saturday, November 14, 2020 MT. OF OLIVES / GETHSEMANE / BETHLEHEM / MOUNT ZION

We start our day we Mount of Olives, Church of Pater Noster, down to Dominus Flevit and St. Mary Magdalene Church, Garden of Gethsemane. Then on to Bethlehem, to visit the Church of the Nativity, the Holy Manger, the Basilica of St. Catherine, the Milk Grotto and then the Shepherds’ Field. On to Mount Zion, where we visit the Room of the Last Supper, the House of Caiaphas and the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu.

Day 9 - Sunday, November 15, 2020 OLD CITY OF JERUSALEM / VIA DOLOROSA / EIN KAREM

Early morning, we transfer to the Old City, to walk the Way of the Cross (Via Dolorosa) as a group. We start at the first station, until we enter the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. We visit the Golgotha and the empty tomb of our Lord. Back to the hotel for breakfast and later we will have a panoramic tour of New Jerusalem, passing by the Shrine of the Book and the Knesset. Then we walk through the Cardo to the Western Wall. Then, we stop in Ein Karem to visit the Church of the Visitation.

Day 10 - Monday, November 16, 2020

LATRUN / OLD JAFFA / CAESAREA / HAIFA / MOUNT CARMEL / NAZARETH

Today, we depart to Latrun to visit the Latrun Monastery. Then we drive to Old Jaffa to visit the walled city and see the Church of St. Peter. We will also enjoy a city walking tour of Tel Aviv, to see the different quarters, cultures and main city sights. Then we drive to Caesarea where we stop to take pictures at the Aqueduct. Afterwards, we continue to Haifa and Mount Carmel to visit the Carmelite Monastery and the church of the Prophet Elijah. Then to Nazareth to visit the Church of the Annunciation, the Holy Grotto and the Church of St. Joseph.

Day 11 - Tuesday, November 17, 2020 NAZARETH / MOUNT TABOR / CANA / SEA OF GALILEE /

CAPERNAUM / MOUNT BEATITUDES This morning, we stop in Mount Tabor to visit the Church and the Monastery of the Transfiguration. Then, we drive up to Cana and visit the Church where Jesus performed His first public miracle at the wedding.
