LIVING BRANCHES The Gospel and second reading for this Fifth Sunday of Easter emphasize the need for us to remain in Christ, and he in us. This shared life finds expression in the image of the one vine and many branches. We become living branches of the vine, mem-bers of the Body of Christ through baptism, Eucharist,
and confirmation, sacraments of sharing God’s own life. The First Letter of John describes the fruit of this vine as active love of neighbor: “And his commandment is this: we should believe . . . and love one another” (1 John 3:23). Our first reading from Acts shows us an example of someone who shares in Christ’s life in the person of Saint Paul. Paul’s fearless witness, even at the risk of his life, is proof to everyone that the risen Lord’s Spirit truly fills him with life and is bearing fruit in him.

He said, Peter, do you love me? Peter confessed,
“Yes Lord, you know that I love you.” And the Lord said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
John 21:15-17.
Dear friends,
After forty-seven years of faithful and loving service to our Lord, Father Peter is retiring from his formal obliga-tions as a beloved pastor in the Diocese of Paterson.
Father Peter served numerous parishes, touched count-less lives and ministered to all those in need. He grew our Church, built a new parish, strengthened our minis-tries, developed new programs, blessed us with thought-ful homilies, strengthened our faith, and brought us closer to God. He is a religious man of prayer, filled with God's love. He is an instrument of our Lord’s mer-cy, hope, healing and joy. Father Peter taught us by his humble example, forever walking in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. We will miss his warm, gentle and teasing manner, and we pray that he enjoys the restful retire-ment he earned and deserves.
Please join Father Peter and our parish family for the celebration of Mass on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 45 Urban Club Road, Wayne, N.J.
