CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT COLLECTION (CCHD)

Next week our second collection will support the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Forty million people in the United States live in poverty. Make your check out to “Catholic Campaign for Human Development” or your cash donation in an envelope labeled “Catholic Campaign for Hu-man Development” and mail to the parish or drop into the mail slot at the Rectory door. Thank you for your continued gener-osity. To learn more about CCHD, go to www.cchdeastbay.org.

of Christ, the spirit of justice, charity, and peace”. Laborem Exercens (“On Human Work,” Donders translation), Pope John Paul II, 1981, #25.

RCIA The Journey of Faith begins with your questions. • What is faith? What do Catholics believe and why is it dif-

ferent from other faith traditions? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a ministry to adults who are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. Our RCIA program addresses the conversion needs of: • Adults who have never been baptized; • Adults who have been baptized in another Christian tradi-

tion; and • Adults who were baptized Catholic but have had no in-

struction in the faith or have not received the Sacraments of First Eucharist and/or Confirmation.

RCIA is about growth in faith and growth in a relationship with God. For more information, please contact: Director of Faith Formation: Deacon Dac Cao - [email protected] or: Norah Hippolyte - [email protected]

WINGS (Women In God’s Spirit) WINGS is a faith enhancement group for women which encourages spiritual growth through prayer, Scripture study, and community. We will meet on

Wednesdays on the Zoom platform from 9:15-11:15am for the rest of this year. If you were a member last year you will auto-matically receive a Zoom invitation. If you’re new to WINGS or wish to sample a meeting, send your email address to Nancy Midlin: [email protected]. She will send you the link to Zoom. Our theme for this year is “Strength for the Journey”. November 18th, Chiquita Tuttle, Ph.D., St. Benedict Parish Council Chair : Racism & White Privilege.

THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME The letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among his earliest writings, and are driven by his belief and the belief of the entire early Christian community that the return of Christ was immi-nent, and that devoting time or attention to anything else was foolish. As time progressed, this fervor subsided a bit. Today we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the com-ing end-times, if we should take them to heart, if we really be-lieve that Christ still may come upon us as a “thief at night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2). Does this mean that we are to stop our long-range goal-setting, get rid of our yearly calendars and planners, or stop putting money in the college education fund? Of course not. What it does mean is that we need to change our lives, living like children of the light and illuminating the world around us with the light of the gospel. Then, on that day, when the details of our daily living become unimportant, we will be ready to find our peace and security in Christ Jesus. Copy-right © J. S. Paluch Co.
