From the Pastor
Peace be with you. We had a glorious day for our 75th Anniversary celebration. Our outdoor Mass and Eucharistic Procession happened flawlessly thanks to so many of our parishioners and staff who worked very hard to bring it about. The Cardinal was very pleased and very complimentary on its organization. His assistant, Fr. Bob Kickham, who has been with him many years and has seen the good, bad, and ugly in liturgies was also very complimentary. What they saw was a vibrant parish full of life and a very proud and happy pastor. Thank you to everyone who was involved organizing, planning, and executing this beautiful celebration. If you have not seen the event yet, you can still watch it on our parish website. It is currently on the “Home” page, but you can always find it on our “Special Events” page. The two groups who worked seamlessly together to lead this, and I cannot thank them enough, are our 75th Anniversary Committee and our parish staff. I had a vision and they made it better than I had imagined. They deserve our thanks. Linda Jones worked tirelessly as Chair of the event and she received support from the members of the 75th Anniversary Committee: Denise Miedico and Bob Penta, along with our staff: Amanda, Andrea, Brenda, Deb, Jim, Jean, Laura, Mary Ann, Michele, Pat, Peg, Rod, Sue, and Teri. They all played a part in the success of the Mass. At the start of the planning, the committee met with Sharon Micco from Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham who shared her knowledge on outdoor Masses as she has been instrumental in hosting over 20 outdoor Masses for her parish. I also want to thank the North Reading town officials who worked with us to meet all of the state, town, and Archdiocese guidelines and whose guidance helped to keep all those in attendance safe during COVID: Robert Bracey, Director of Public Health; Michael Gilleberto, Town Manager; Michael Murphy, Police Chief; Don Stats, Fire Chief. We want to thank all the vendors who worked with us to help take an asphalt parking lot and create a beautiful space where everyone could worship together, and hear our beautiful music and the words of this special Mass: Al Pereira, Advanced Photo; AE Event Systems, Ronald L. Appleton, Inc., and Boston Flower Market. We also want to thank our in-kind donors: The Sawin Family who donated the altar flowers; Representative Brad Jones who donated the chairs for the Mass; and, Linda and Brad Jones for donating the landscaping at the Saint Theresa statue and the lamp post. I’d like to especially thank all the people who answered our call to help. We had a number of volunteers who spent hours preparing the parking lot on Friday and Saturday and helped with clean up on Sunday. So many people helped in the final hours before and after and I don’t want to miss listing a name. But know, I and the entire committee and staff appreciated your help lining the parking lot, setting up chairs and tearing the whole event down. Please know we couldn’t have done it without you, and we thank you. Thank you to everyone who assisted on Sunday from the parking lot attendants to the high school students, the Eucharistic ministers, readers, greeters, cantors, photographers, and everyone who participated in the Mass and Eucharistic Procession. Finally, I am grateful to each and every one of you. You came with smiles, joy, and words of support and encouragement. Your presence, whether in person or watching online, made this day! Many years from now, we will look back on this day and smile because it was such a beautiful event for Saint Theresa Parish and the Town of North Reading. Blessings on you and your family, Bishop Mark

Voca on Crucifix is a special crucifix that travels from family to family to inspire prayers for voca ons to the Priesthood and to the Religious Life.
We have suspended the ministry for the me being. We ask everyone to please pray for voca ons to the Priesthood and to the Religious Life.
We have provided a prayer below.

Prayer for Voca ons to the Religious Life
Our Father, you call some of your children to band together in community for the public service of your Church and to live the life of voluntary poverty, chas ty and obedience. You need them to remind all of us of our eternal life with you, to show us the goodness of living together in love, and to do special work in your Church. May this witness be strong and inspiring. Give many men and women the grace to follow this path in generous sharing, open love for all and faithful service of your Church, for your honor and glory. Amen
Youth Cantor Training
Does your child like to sing? I am looking for youth to par cipate in a training session (individually). The
me would be arranged between myself and each parent. This is not a choir program, (choirs are not allowed during the pandemic), and the objec ve is to have solo singing at Mass by our children. If your child can read, and would like to par cipate, please contact me. sforbesmusic@s heresanreading.org ~Sue Forbes

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
At some point in life, everyone gets measured. Report cards, evalua ons, test scores, driver exams, and license exams grade our knowledge, ability or accomplishments. Informal
evalua ons look at our abili es or our work to see how well we did as an amateur gardener or musician or ballplayer. We want to know how well we did and compare ourselves to some standard to see if we ‘measure up.’ When we do, we can take pride in our efforts and try to do even be er next me.
The spiritual life has its form of measurement too. When we are focused on God’s will and put our faith into prac ce, we experience God’s peace. St. Paul says that this peace will ‘stand guard’ over our hearts and minds. There is a sense of sa sfac on as we reap the rewards of faith—things that are true, good, pure and decent. Everyone has a role to play and no one is excluded. There is a place for everyone and every gi .
When your spiritual life needs a boost, prac ce your faith. Be kind to others, serve the poor, prac ce acts of kindness, pray more fervently, a end daily Mass or read the Gospels carefully. Give faith a more central and prominent role in your life. You’ll find that grace will help you measure up! ~James Gaffney, © 2008 Karides Lic. to St. George Publishing

Let Your Voice Be Heard – Again “Say No to ROE”
An excerpt from a le er from Cardinal Sean O’Malley. You can read the en re le er at www.macatholic.org: “In this statement, however, I wish once again, as I have done in the past year, to raise up for a en on a uniquely significant moral ques on: the issue of abor on. It is uniquely significant because it always involves the right to life, the fundamental human right, which is the founda on of the other spiritual and material rights that comprise the common good of our society. Abor on always terminates a human life. The right to life of the unborn is deeply threatened by legisla on presently being considered in the Massachuse s legislature. The ROE Act is now being debated in the Joint Commi ee on the Judiciary. Advocates for this bill describe its purpose as protec ng the status and legacy of the Roe v. Wade decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973. As a ma er of law, Massachuse s already has among the most extreme abor on laws in the county, and if Roe v. Wade were overturned, abor on rights in Massachuse s would be unaffected. Here in Massachuse s, the proponents of the ROE Act describe its objec ve as increasing access to abor on. Tragically, the bill would do this but in a very extreme manner. “ The state legislature has extended the session un l January 5th, 2021. Please remind the members of the Joint Commi ee on Judiciary that you oppose the expansion of abor on in Massachuse s. Please call the Commi ee at 617-722-2396 and let them know you are opposed to H3320 and S1209 – the ROE legisla on. Every telephone call helps! Specifically, the ROE Act would do the following; it would:
The requirement that young girls obtain consent before an abor on The requirement that efforts be made to save a living baby who survives abor on The requirement that late term abor ons be performed in hospitals And the bills would allow abor on on demand for all nine months of pregnancy.
For more informa on about how the ROE legisla on would expand abor on in Massachuse s visit www.macatholic.org Thank you!

Our priests are often at the center of efforts that build
strong support systems for all of us. In addition to
their daily pastoral responsibilities, they help establish
social service organizations, offer spiritual support for first
responders, operate parish food pantries, and recently, in
response to the pandemic, put their lives at risk to provide
comfort and peace to those suffering with COVID-19.
Healthier priests build stronger communities. And the
Clergy Health and Retirement Trust (CHRT) is dedicated to
keeping our priests healthy.
This September, you can support the CHRT’s mission
by giving to the special collection at Masses on
September 19/20. Every gift makes a difference and is
a symbol of gratitude for all our priests who don’t just
observe need in our communities; they seek it out so
they can respond.
