Prayer of Saint Dominic
May God the Father who made us bless us. May God the Son send his healing among us.
May God the Holy Spirit move within us and give us eyes to see with, ears to hear with,
and hands that your work might be done. May we walk and preach the word of God to all.
May the angel of peace watch over us and lead us at last by God's grace to the Kingdom.
Amen

The Transfiguration of the Lord, August 6, 2017
Feast of St. Dominic: Our Parish Patron Saint (August 8)
How are you spending family time with your children this summer? What family activities do you share? Do
you set aside time for family prayer each day? This week, why not honor our parish patron, St. Dominic, by praying
the rosary as a family! St. Dominic, as we know, has been recognized as the individual who instituted the adoption of
the rosary as a prayer devotion. Experiencing an apparition of the Blessed Mother, while in a coma, he was instruct-
ed that through the praying of and preaching of her Psalter, he would bring about the conversion of those who did
not believe. St. Dominic structured the simple prayers that we all know into an order that we now recognize as the
rosary. The foundation of the Dominican order, founded by him, is based on this devotion which recounts the virtu-
ous life of Jesus and the Blessed Mother. Through the recitation of the rosary may we come to better understand the
tenets of our faith. To check out the variety of resources available to teach your child(ren) the rosary, Google, ‘The
Rosary for Children.”
This week’s Sunday Gospel Family Connection: Every family has special moments that they remember and
share. In sharing these stories, the meaning and importance of the events develops and deepens over time. This is
how it was with the disciples’ remembrance of Jesus’ Transfiguration. The full significance of what they had seen
and experienced could only be understood after Jesus’ Death and Resurrection. As Peter, James, and John reflect-
ed on the event and told other believers about the Transfiguration, their own faith deepened. Because Matthew,
Mark, and Luke recorded the account of the Transfiguration in their writings, we too can deepen our faith in Je-
sus, the Son of God and our Savior.
Gather as a family and think about some special memories that your family recalls over and over again. Talk
about why these moments are important to you. Remember that in the Bible we find many important stories about
Jesus. They have been recorded so that we too can learn about him and his teachings, so that we too can come to
know and love Jesus, God’s beloved Son. Read today’s Gospel, Matthew 17:1–9. Discuss as a family how Jesus ful-
fills the promises that God made to Israel and how God glorified Jesus after the Resurrection. Talk about your
family and the promises you have made to one another. Conclude by praying together the Lord’s Prayer so that as
a family you continue to grow in faithfulness to one another and to your heavenly Father. (Loyola Press Sunday
Connection, The Transfiguration of the Lord, August 6, 2017)

CENTERING PRAYER
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that
helps open our hearts and minds to consent to
God’s presence and action beyond words,
thoughts, and emotions. Rooted in ancient Chris-
tian prayer practices, Centering Prayer prepares us to receive
the gift of Contemplative Prayer, the awareness through
faith of God within us, closer than consciousness itself. Cen-tering Prayer meets at the Athletic Fields Library -6140
Northern Blvd Watch for the next date. If you have Questions:
