The Nativity
After the Guadalupe celebrations, we begin this week the immediate preparation for Christmas with the Novena and the traditional Posadas. Pope Francis at the beginning of Advent went to visit the little town of Greccio, close to Rome, the place where St. Francis of Assisi started the tradition of preparing a Nativity scene to remember the birth of Jesus. On the occasion of his visit, Pope Francis wrote a letter to all of us. In it he says:
“With this letter, I wish to encourage the beautiful family tradition of preparing the nativity scene in the days before Christmas, but also the custom of setting it up in the workplace, in schools, hospitals, prisons and town squares. Great imagination and creativity is always shown in employing the most diverse materials to create small masterpieces of beauty. As children, we learn from our parents and grandparents to carry on this joyful tradition, which encapsulates a wealth of popular piety. It is my hope that this custom will never be lost and that, wherever it has fallen into disuse, it can be rediscovered and revived.”
The Popes have always been examples of this beautiful tradition, placing a big Nativity scene in St. Peter’s square in the Vatican, where all the pilgrims and tourists in Rome could contemplate the mystery of Christmas.
In our Parish we also have our Nativity scene, and I hope that all the families in the Parish are preparing their own. Obviously the most important is to continue to prepare our Heart for the Lord is coming soon.
God bless, Father José Félix

Gaudete!
