We have tasted the excitement and zeal of the first Christians. Now, with them, we listen to the words of Saint Peter, who reminds us that when people notice that we are people of hope, we should be ready to explain why. This challenges us. Do others even notice that we are people of hope? In a world often marked by cynicism and hopelessness, do we stand out as people who offer hope and reassurance to others? In today’s Gospel Jesus promises that when he leaves the earth he will not leave us or- phaned. Today he promises to send his Advocate, the Spirit of truth who will be with us always. Dear Parishioners,

I was just notified that Bishop Thomas V. Daily the Sixth Bishop of Brooklyn has died. You will undoubtedly have seen the information in the media and perhaps have seen the funeral mass on the NET- Channel 97. He was our bishop from 1990 to 2003 and was a very pastoral person who served as a missionary in Peru for five years as a younger priest. He was originally from the Archdiocese of Boston and became the founding Bishop of Palm Beach before coming to us. He was very kind to us priests and became a Brooklynite with a Boston accent. I will always be grateful to him because he gave us diocesan priests permission to have a chapel with the Blessed Sacrament in our in our rectories. This was normally the privilege of religious order priests, sisters and brothers. May he rest in peace. The entire parish congratulates the families of the youngsters who received their First Holy Communion last Saturday evening and who will receive it today at the 9:00am and 12:00pm masses. I am grateful to Ann O’Brien our Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Rosemarie McGoldrick, the Catechists, and parents for their roles in the preparation of the children. Over eighty children have been prepared and it is my hope and prayer that the Eucharist will be the focal point of the week for us all. Thursday of this week May 25th, will be the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord. There will be a vigil mass in English on Wednesday at 7:00pm and on Thursday the masses will be at 6:45am, 8:30am, 11:45am and 7:00pm (Spanish) Thursday is a Holy Day of Obligation and every effort should be made to assist at mass either here or at a Church near your employment. I am excited about the 125th Anniversary Picnic on Saturday, June 10th in our schoolyard. You will see the information in the bulletin. As you heard on Sunday, the two Saturday masses will be combined on that day to have a bilingual mass at 5:00pm in the schoolyard with dessert to follow. There is a nominal fee for the afternoon, but dessert after mass is the gift of a parishioner. Last but not least: Our parish has been chosen to have a seminarian of our diocese stay with us until mid July. He arrived on Monday of this past week and his name is Vincent Vu. He will be introducing himself at mass and we welcome him and feel privileged to play a part in his formation for the priesthood.

Let’s pray for each other, Msgr. Kevin B. Noone

P.S. Thank you for keeping the Annual Catholic Appeal in your prayers
