This Weekend’s Scripture
First Reading: Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11 Isaiah emphasizes that from the desert to the moun-tains, all people must prepare for “the glory of the Lord to be revealed.” Rather than looking only at God’s pow-er, Isaiah focuses on God’s kindness, comparing it to a shepherd who feeds and cares for his flock.
Second Reading: 2 Peter 3:8-14 For those who are impatient for the Second Coming, Peter explains that time is different to God than to peo-ple. He reminds them that they should be grateful for the extra time to prepare, and concentrate on striving to become all that God would want them to be.
Gospel: Mark 1:1-8 In this passage, John the Baptist stressed the im-portance of the coming of the Messiah. He acknowl-edged that he was only the messenger, and unfit to “stoop and untie his sandal straps.” John urged them to prepare for one far holier than he, who would walk among them. ©1999 Bon Venture Services, Inc.
A Stewardship Thought ….
“Prepare the way of the Lord…” - MARK 1:3
We are all called to live a holy life. We are all called to invite others to live holy lives. Living a stewardship life-style, being grateful and generous with our gifts, does just that – it puts us on the path to holiness and it in-vites others to be holy, too.

News from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Our Neighbors in Need Find Help Here.
Once again the SVdP annual Giving Tree is going to be a huge success thanks to the overwhelming gener-osity of the OLV family of parishioners. We wrapped an amazing amount of gifts last week and we’re still at it this weekend. Santa’s elves have nothing on us! We’ll report the full gift count soon. If you read this on 12/10 we’ll be in MDH wrapping after all masses. Feel free to come over and lend a hand. Thankfully our pantry shelves are well stocked due to very generous donations from the OLV School, Sayre-ville Public Schools and the NY Sports Club. Now would be a good time to donate items we don’t usually receive such as sugar and coffee. We also need: juic-es & drinks, pasta sauce, canned or packaged fruit Donations can be left in the church lobby after any mass. Thank you. We are here to help, to serve and to bring God’s love to those who are poor and suffering. No work of charity is for-eign to our society. If you or someone you know is truly in need please contact us through the parish office. (732) 257-0077
