Church NewsletterFeeding the Hungry with Norwich Foodbank

Norwich Foodbank is a church-backed crisis food bank project tooffer emergency food parcels to needy people across Norwich.Foodbanks provide three days of emergency food to individualsand families in real crisis, before the statutory authorities can getinvolved. The Foodbank also supports existing local charitiesworking with distressed and destitute people by donating food inbulk. In the three months August to October 2011, Foodbank fed 824local people in crisis (c. 275 a month). 90% of the people helpedonly ever need 1 or 2 food boxes from the Bank due to themworking closely with care agency partners. This is a well run andmuch needed service.Food is collected locally, gathered in a central warehouse andsorted for use. Local care professionals in the Norwich area referpeople to the Foodbank, where they are given a hot drink, supplies and direction. After hearing about successful Foodbank collection points in theShotesham churches, we felt that our churches in Tasburgh andTharston are also ideally situated in the community to help withthis crisis management. You can help local people in crisis by buying items from theshopping list below and depositing them in your village church. The items in bold are those that Norwich Foodbank currentlyneeds the most:Milk (UHT or powdered), Sugar (500g), Fruit Juice long-life (carton), Pasta Sauces, Sponge

Pudding (Tinned), Tomatoes (Tinned), Cereals, Tinned Veg, Rice Pudding (Tinned), Tea

Bags, Instant coffee, Instant Mash Potato, Rice/Pasta, Tinned Meat, Tinned Fish, Tinned

We had another splendid carol service this year. The churchreally looked the part, with a lot of hard work going on to createthe wonderful atmosphere. Thanks to all who worked so hard, and to Tasburgh Choir for making it such a treat. We continue to open the church during daylight hours, which hasbeen appreciated - but in order to continue this practice, we doneed more volunteers, who will just do 1 or 2 weeks per year ofunlocking each morning and locking up late afternoon. Pleasecontact Barbara on 530739 if you are able to help.

Vivienne Taylor 471790, Julia Orpin 470983We were all deeply saddened by the loss of Pat Crowley inFebruary. She has been such a faithful and kind-heartedcontributor to the life of the church and the village for so manyyears, and she will be truly missed. Our heartfelt condolences goto John.Following on from our PCC retreat day, we have organised somemore in-depth teaching days on a variety of themes, and hopethey will be useful. For our first one, we welcome MaureenBunting from Belfast and Sam Brinkley from near Diss, who willjoin with Adrian in opening up the topic of how Jesus heals thebroken-hearted.We were encouraged again by our various Christmas events. Thanks to all who worked hard to make these such lovelyoccasions.
