2This is the account of Jacob’s family line. Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them.
3Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him. 4When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.
5Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: 7We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”
8His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said. 9Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” 11His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

AnnouncementsTrinity UCC Ends WJYS Broadcast
Family,
After many years of broadcasting an edited version of our worship service on WJYS, today will be our final broadcast. This decision has been under consideration for nearly two years, primarily as we considered the cost versus the reach and overall value, and while we investigated alternatives.
Since November 2014, we have been asking our viewers to reach out to us, either through a web survey, or by calling our Member Services team (this was communicated directly on the actual broadcasts). This information was used to both understand who our audience was, and what options might exist for them to continue to have access to the Trinity UCC worship experience. Surprisingly, 80% of our viewers can access worship services through the Internet!
To assist as many viewers as possible to continue receiving our worship services in their homes, we have been in conversations with our Deacons. Deacon Martha Madkins and Deacon Michael Heard will coordinate our effort to reach out to those viewers that contacted us and help them with setting up alternative viewing options.
This has not been an easy decision, but it has been informed by the survey results that we received. Based on that data, we will be able to provide alternatives to the vast majority of our former viewers while realizing a cost savings to the church of about $4,000 per month.
Please keep us in your prayers as this transition proceeds.
God bless you,
Daryle BrownExecutive Director, Multimedia and Communications

The beauty of God’s love, grace, and mercy is an undeniable reality. It is a wonderful thing. We are not consulted by God when God chooses to endow God’s children with gifts. The incredible diversity of the village is mind-boggling, and the plethora of gifts and talents cause a person to shudder. Because God is God and does not consult narrow-minded people like us, God equips men and women of different orientations with gifts to assist in the liberation of the entire village.
The family tree created by our Media Department highlights men and women of the LGBT community who fought; and those who are still living, continue to fight for the liberation of Black people across the Diaspora.
We are all a part of God’s family, and this family month we are thankful God gifted Bayard Rustin to teach Dr. King the power of organizing and non-violence. Many do not know that Bayard Rustin was a mentor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We thank God for the trailblazing work of Alvin Ailey, who redefined the arts with his groundbreaking choreography. Angela Davis, the premiere activist of the Black Power movement, birthed Black consciousness into our souls with her revolutionary perspective and activism.
James Baldwin, was one of the greatest writers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Baldwin’s influence on the literary genre cannot be emphasized enough. Alice Walker, a literary genius and creator of the phrase, “Womanist,” changed the course of women’s rights and African American literary theory.
Barbara Jordan was one of the most powerful political voices ever produced. Representative Jordan fought for civil rights and stood in solidarity with the people of South Africa. Frances harper, the incredible abolitionist and poet, sought to redefine the former antebellum south with her writing, fighting, and revolutionary rhetoric.
God is rich in grace and mercy, and endows all of God’s children with extraordinary gifts.

Do you recognize this man?
His loved ones are hoping that you do. Last Sunday, Chicago Sun-Times columnist, Mary Mitchell wrote a stirring article about the whereabouts of Mr. Serie McDougal, a 68-year-old African American man who has been missing since Memorial Day. In a piece entitled, “How can senior with Alzheimer’s remain missing in Chicago,” Mitchell details the agonizing day that Mr. McDougal’s wife, Ann, discovered her husband disappeared from his home, leaving both his keys and wallet. She talks about how the family canvassed the neighborhood block by block, created fliers, and notified the police. Though the police contend Mr. McDougal’s disappearance is an active investigation, the family, obviously frustrated, hasn’t heard from a detective in almost two weeks.
Sadly, this is becoming more common with people who suffer from Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Three out of five people with Alzheimer’s disease will wander at some point and if not found within 24 hours, up to half will suffer serious injury or death, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Endeleo Institute is all too familiar with the plight of those who care for loved ones suffering from this insidious disease. The REACH (Research and education for African American Caregiver health) to Faith Project is a collaboration of seven south side churches (including Trinity UCC) tailored to address the individual caregiver needs of a community where dementia and Alzheimer’s disease is more pervasive and widespread. The problem central to most African American caregivers is the lack of information regarding the resources available that can lessen the often tremendous burdens faced by those caring for loved ones and the toll it takes. In fact, there are rough statistics that suggest caregivers are more likely to die before the person in their care.
If you would like to learn more about REACH to Faith, please contact:
Mrs. Slatton The Endeleo Institute, 773-966-1588
If you have any information or have seen Serie McDougal, please call 911.

Renew Our Relationship with GodJanuary (Worship)Zechariah 1:3 (NIV)Therefore tell the people: This is what The Lord Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the Lord.
February (Prayer)Deuteronomy 4:29 (NIV)But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him with all your heart and all your soul.
March (Bible Study)Psalm 119:105 (NIV)Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it that I will follow your righteous laws.
Reclaim Our African HeritageApril (African Origins of Christianity)Psalm 68:31 (NLT)Let Egypt come with gifts of precious metals; let Ethiopia bring tribute to God. Sing to the God you kings of the earth. Sing praises to the Lord.
May (Black Religion)Isaiah 19:19-21 (NLT)In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the Lord at its borders. It will be a sign and a witness that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is worshipped in the land of Egypt. When the people cry to the Lord for help against those who oppress them, he will send them a savior who will rescue them.
June (African Diaspora)Zephaniah 3:10 (NIV)My scattered people who lived beyond the rivers of Ethiopia will come to present their offerings. On that day you will no longer need to be ashamed for you will no longer be rebellious against me.
Restore Justice and MercyJuly (Prophetic Mission of the Church)Zechariah 7:9 (NIV)This is what The Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.’
August (Black Liberation Theology)Leviticus 19:34 (NIV)The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am The Lord your God.
September (Social Justice/Activism)Psalm 82:3 (NIV) Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
Reconnect to Our CommunityOctober (Evangelism)Acts 1:8 (NIV)But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.
November (Hospitality)Hebrews 13:2-3 (NIV)Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
December (Servanthood) II Corinthians 3:2-3 (NIV)You yourselves are our letter, written on hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
