THE PARISH AS ONE BODY “If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But as it is, God placed the parts, each one of them, in the body as he intended… The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I do not need you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I do not need you.’ Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are all the more necessary . Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. “ (1 Cor. 12:17-25)

50 WEEKS OF PRAYER DURING OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR
The ministry of deacon is a holy ministry in our community called church. Deacon means servant or service as when Jesus says: “I have come not to be served but to serve.” All fol-lowers of Christ should give humble service to others, a service taken up freely. The word deacon is derived from the Greek word diakonia. A famous first deacon is Stephen, the first of the seven listed in Acts of the Apostles, chapter 6. He is a man singled out because of his faith and the power of the Holy Spirit in his life. His was a ministry of preaching, teaching, and working miracles.
The document Lumen Gentium (Dogmatic Constitutions on the Church) of Vatican Council II restored the diaconal ministry as a permanent way of life. It defined the deacon’s role as “authorized to administer Baptism, to reserve and distribute the Holy Eucharist, to assist at
and to bless marriages, to take Viaticum to the dying, to read scripture to the faithful, to instruct, to preside over the worship and prayer of the faithful, and to officiate at funeral and burial services.”
Last Saturday, October 17, 2015 at St. Columban Church in Garden Grove, Bishop Kevin Vann ordained Pete Lauder from our parish for service as deacon. Together with his wife, Jan, Deacon Lauder has completed his period of formation and is ready to serve our community in a new and profound, holy and perfect way! Dea-con Lauder has prepared a sharing of his life and ministry for all of us. Congratulations, Deacon and Jan Lauder and family! God’s blessings on you and your family! Work miracles!
A blessing for our new Deacon and his family:
Heavenly Father, since the time of the Apostles you have inspired the Church to commission certain members to assist in a special way in the pastoral mission of Christ.
Bless newly ordained Deacon Pete Lauder, his wife Jan, their family and all other ordained and non-ordained ministers of our parish,
that they may be humble and faith-inspired in their service.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
Deacon Pete Lauder, pictured below with his wife
Jan and son, Jack.

WE HAVE A NEW DEACON !
Thank you for your ongoing monetary support and for your consistent donations of food, baby supplies and books. Your generosity has enabled Vincentians to expand services to our friends in need. We would like to share exciting news with parishioners, donors and other friends.
TWICE A MONTH “ SHOPPING” Friends in need can now shop at the Pantry twice a month. “Shopping” twice a month will help our friends offset other monthly ex-penses such as increasing rental costs in Orange County. Most pantry visitors are employed. Sadly, their income does not always keep up with increasing living costs.
NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM - “CHARITY TRACKER” St. Juliana, St. Vincent de Paul has a new database system that allows members to record activities beyond pantry visits. The system tracks special assistance that we may provide, such as paying a utility bill or assisting with Faith Formation class fees. Currently, Vincentians are using the new system to update the Christmas Food and Gift registration information so that we have accurate fam-ily data, assuring a successful Christmas program.
As the holiday season approaches, we are re-stocking Pantry shelves with items that are in short supply or have been requested. Please consider adding some of these items to your shopping list.
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS:
ITEMS THAT ARE NOT NEEDED: baked beans, green beans, pumpkin

Stop by the Pantry (adjacent to Rectory garage) any Thursday, 9:00- 11:00 a.m. or attend a meeting, second Thursday of each month, 7:15 p.m., Parish Center. Once again, St. Vincent de Paul and our friends in need appreciate your kindness and generosity.

By the time you are reading this, God willing, 14 of my fellow Diaconate candidates and I were ordained last weekend by Bishop Kevin Vann. We will all be serv-ing at various parishes within Orange County. I have been as-signed to St. Juliana Parish.
Jan & I want to offer our pro-found thanks to each one of you in the parish for your support and prayers during our 5 year for-mation period. Next month we will be celebrating our 39th wed-ding anniversary. We have been members of St. Juliana for over 30 years, have 4 children, 4 grandchildren and two on the way. We have been blessed be-yond measure.
Our son Jack plays in the youth band at the Sunday 5 PM Mass, so naturally that is the Mass we attend most frequently. I look forward to spending more time at all the Masses to see those we know and to make friends with those we don’t. May God con-tinue to bless us all here at St. Juliana.

CORAZON NEWS
Georgina is an experienced Corazon volunteer. She remembers joining 14 years ago on November 2nd, 2001. She has been help-ing other Mexican Corazon volunteers in her village with their projects and in doing so she has learned the skills to make im-provements in her own home. Two years ago she received a Co-razon house on their adjoining lot. Her adult son and his family live there. Many Corazon volunteers have helped their grown children in this manner and they are happy to keep their family in close proximity for their mutual support. Georgina and her family
are very appreciative on receiv-ing their new roof. She says, "Thankfully, now that the roof is fixed, we will sleep knowing that when it rains, we are not about to get wet. Thank you for your help. May God Bless you."
