THE OLD CLOCKIt was the dark of the midnight hour. The Old Clock eagerly waited.''I strike the new Year in," he said.''For so it has been fated.A hundred years I've ushered in!Full well I like my task.I think myself supremely blessed,No finer work I ask.

''A hundred years!'' the Old Clock said.''Just think of the changing times!Think of the history in the making! It's a subject for ringing rhymes!''''I strike the new Year in!'' said Old Clock,''And now the hour is here!''The Old Clock solemnly lifted its gong -And struck in another new Year.

He at-tended the University of Notre Damein South Bend, Indiana for his BS in Electrical Engineering. As an ROTC student he was obligated, after graduation, to a4-year service with theAir Force Defense Command at ClarkAFB in the Philippines. Furthering his education, he earnedhis MBA from the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1980,mostly attending evening classes. His employment was withCollins Radio Company owned byArthur Collins, a systemsdeveloper who had the only equipment that was able to com-municate with Admiral Byrd at the station at the South Pole.(They also supplyNASA’s equipment for communicationwithastronauts in space that was used in theMercury, Gemini andApollo programs.) Chuck continued to work for RockwellCollins inCedarRapids, Iowawhen the companymergedwithRockwell International. It was there Chuck helped developauto-pilot systems used in business jets as well as GPS equip-ment sold commercially. One of his jobs was using proto-type equipment to determine the accuracy ofmapping areas tobe included in the maps for GPS that we use today. After re-tirement hewas an active volunteerwithMercyHospital Hos-pice in Cedar Rapids.Pat was born in Yonkers, New York and attended ElizabethSeton High School in Yonkers.
