Having it all is not about striving for perfection, or about living our lives according to someone else’s standards

or expectations (we’ve done that for far too long).

It’s not about working ourselves to a state of exhaustion, spreading ourselves too thin, or trading inner peace and

contentment for outer trinkets of success.

Been there. Done that too.

Having it all simply means having access to all of yourself, in any moment you choose it, and in every

aspect of life that is important to you.

Go here to learn exactly how you too, can “Have it All”’

4 Questions With Christy Whitman

C: how do you define your it and your all in your life?

Jean Widner: ok I am going to be contrary in the source of this discussion because I really believe that it is simple. I think that what it comes down to for having what

we must define as having our it or our all it needs to come from inside of us it needs to not be reliant on what other people is full of notions of what that is supposed to look like and I think every single person has to find that for themselves. And for me I think a couple of things have made themselves very clear. One has to be flexible because life changes and I think that again if you are working from your core and working from your inside, you just have to figure out what your must haves are and everything else becomes peripheral everything else can kind of slide away when you know what is your own must have. For me that’s gone through a number of changes most particularly in the last year I mean about a year ago I was given a very surprising house diagnosis that has long-term implications and I’ve seen people who unfortunately I have had good friends who passed away from cancer and things like that who were far too young so everyone will always sell say well your help is most important and when you go through something like that watching other people that you love that you care about that you lose you say oh gosh yes health is really important. But then there is nothing like having something come at you. That can shift ones perspective even further down that path so for starters having it all for me right now means I am here it means I’m healthy it means I wake up in the morning and I get to go to work. So that is my first most important thing is being here investing in myself and staying healthy. And then everything else falls away from that and the other things that lend themselves to that which is my relationships my husband of 25 years. We are business partners we are best friends he’s the love of my life he always has been and always will be and I can’t beat that for anything in the world. The fact that we live in a great community the fact that we are surrounded by friends the fact that our mothers are both here with us we are both alone our fathers are gone but our mothers are here. We have made decisions that have allowed us to construct a life that really works for us everyone is local everyone’s here we don’t have to travel to see each other in the holidays when our moms need something we are there. So all of those things are what gives me my all and they are internal. Even if it isn’t perfect health and maybe it’s imperfect health but

it is what it is right now. A reader of our newsletter sent a great quote of Byron Katie yesterday it said stresses and when you are in conflict with your reality and your reality is a reality at that moment and things really can turn on a dime. So staying adaptable knowing what your core is I think that gives you the tools to weather those storms.

C: What is your core belief about yourself or the universe that allows you to have the experience of having it all?

Jean Widner: again this is going to sound maybe I think our sacrifices to find us as much as our achievements. I think that we need to in fact celebrate what we are willing

to give up in order to have this other thing. I think there is a lot of emphasis on get this achieve this do this have a fabulous company have a really successful business be this dynamic person or have wonderful relationships or whatever it is that you think you are chasing but ultimately everyone who has ever been a parent had made sacrifices for their children. There are decisions you have to make such as financial resources time resources whatever it is in order to be a good parent to invest in your children to raise them. And our sacrifices say so much about us in terms of I am willing to give up this in order to that really well. The notion that you can do everything simultaneously usually breaks down for people. They run out of enough hours in the day to make all of that work you can’t do everything and do it well you have to do the most important things and do them well. When we tried to do too much we ruin our ability to do that and achieve that I think and so I think celebrating your sacrifices is important because it says I value this so much that this is what I gave up to have it. And celebrate them, sacrifice shouldn’t be a dirty word. Sacrifice should be know this is what I was willing to give up because that matter so much more and to take joy in that and feel proud of it indeed.

C: When you are in a place of having it all what is that bottom line essence feeling for you?

Jean Widner: contentment. I think of the questions I knew you were going to ask I wrestled with that when I think the most. That is difficult I think to put into one

word. This morning I rolled over and open my eyes I have two dogs one of whom is a puppy who really needs to go outside and needs to be fed and he’s also making a marked this improvement on the outdoor patio furniture and I have a cat who throws up on the carpet and I look at my eyes and see the laundry I didn’t finish this weekend and I’m content I’m perfectly happy with that because again it means I have a family I have people around me my husband is in bed next to me. I have laughter and joy because if you have pets that’s a recipe for that. And that’s the essence. It’s very simple it’s making a decision to appreciate the very simple things that make up your life the very fabric of your life. The big things the small things the things that annoy you because if you have a high heating bill it means that you have a home and that you are warm. If you have laundry to do it means you don’t live alone. Dishes to clean up. It means you have friends over for dinner or whatever. So it’s always about being content exactly where you are even with the annoyances. I think that’s the most important thing for me. It means we have this stuff we are warm we are safe we are content.

C: Can you offer one piece of advice to help them to get into that space of having it all?

Jean Widner: breathe meditate and be willing to open your internal heart to other people. I think that when we practice first of all you have to breathe in order to get into that

better place in yourself I think that’s absolutely essential. If you are able to breathe you are able to center yourself and from that place you can open yourself up to other experiences. When I say opening yourself up to other people it’s about remembering those relationships and our human condition. All of us need empathy all of us need compassion all of us need gratitude all of us need forgiveness. And if you are able to practice those core principles that gentleness of spirit and cultivated towards yourself and then also remember to open it up to others then you are living an example of your best self. And we don’t always stay there it’s very easy to find yourself in a

situation where you feel threatened or your dinosaur brain takes over and you react emotionally but the truth is if we meditate if we breathe that has for me allowed me to find that space where I have a breath. Where I am aware of my own personal state and can then try to practice that best-self coming out of myself as I relate to other people whenever the circumstance and situation even if I am feeling threatened and I really do need to just go away at that moment I need to say listen obviously we need to talk about this later because I can’t be in a place where I will bring my best self. And retreat and buy yourself some time. So that’s what I would say is from that practice you can find your core and you can find your center and you can find what you’re must haves are so that’s why I have the privilege of being with heart of wild divine which is a company that teaches people to breathe and meditate and through those learnings everything else can come from there and that’s the basis.

Jean Widner Jean Widner is an outsider to the self-improvement industry. She notes that in the 70’s when TM first made itself popular in the US, her mother embraced it. But being a typical teenager, she thought it was just ‘weird’. Now, as an active meditator herself she chuckles at that, and the irony of life’s twists and turns that have put her here.

As the co-owner and National Sales Manager of Wild Divine, Inc., one of the things she loves most is interacting with her customers. Formed in 2001, Wild Divine is one of the early leaders in the emerging lifestyle technology market. Wild Divine is committed to designing and developing unique whole-body relaxation training programs that help people reduce stress and live happier, more well-balanced lives.

“One of the beauties of meditation is how its gentle practice can do so much for us in our daily lives. Learning to meditate along with the Wild Divine technology can help people really see and understand how these practices impact their minds and bodies.’ says Widner. She views her role at Wild Divine as being a conduit to helping people find their own natural rhythms to help them improve their lives using meditation as one of the positive tools in their “life toolkit”.
