Overview of the U.S. Marshals Service

The USMS was created in 1789 with the First Judiciary Act

It is this nation’s “Oldest Federal Law Enforcement Agency”

The USMS is a bureau of the U.S. Department of Justice.

USMS Headquarters is in Arlington, Virginia 94 Districts Approximately 5,000 employees

Judicial Security USMS is responsible for protecting federal judicial officials

(Judges, Attorneys and Jurors)

The USMS receives approximately 1200 threats/inappropriate communications nation wide targeting their protectees which include over 2600 federal judges
