The Christmas meal, in Samothrace Island
• On Christmas Day people of Samothrace island usually make the “Souvla”.
Souvla is: big chunks of pork meat flavoured with some oregano and salt and passed through thick wood skewer.
• They grill the “souvla” over high fire. The most important is that to the grilling process all the family and family’s friends must participate by eating directly from the grill drinking red wine and having a good time.

New Year’s Eve in Epirus• In the Greek’s Orthodox tradition
people hide a small coin called “flouri” in a cake named “Vasilopita”. On New Year’s Eve the father of the family cuts the cake and shares slices to everyone present the festive dinner. The one who gets the piece with the coin will be the lucky one of the year!
• In Epirus they do not usually make cake they do pie with rice and pieces of lamb meat wrapped in the sheets of pie. They hide the “flouri” among the sheets.
