Every year, thousands of children in Nepal are trafficked.

Traffickers target poor households, offering them the hope of regular income – and then sell their children into bonded labour or sexual slavery. 

SOLD INTO SLAVERY

NGOs estimate that up to 15,000 girls a year are trafficked across the open border with India and sold into prostitution.

A further 30,000 young girls and women are employed as sex workers within Nepal itself.  

THE STATISTICS

Viva’s partner network CarNet Nepal alerts local communities to protect and rescue children from abuse.

It is empowering the Church to make a difference in a nation where Christianity is growing more rapidly than in any country.  

EMPOWERING THE CHURCH

Ten year-old Pujana couldn’t go to school. She looked after her sister and the family home while her mother worked. Her father spent wages on alcohol. She was vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.  

With CarNet Nepal’s support, the local church helped Pujana attend a Child Development Centre. She is thriving.Her mother proudly says, “I have hope in my daughter and I will send her to school regularly.”  

Pujana wants to be doctor in the future.
