Finished block size: 10.5 inches square
Materials Needed
Fabrics 3/4 yard solid red (width of fabric = 44 inches) for blocks 3/4 yard cream (width of fabric = 108 inches) for blocks and borders 1/2 yard red/tan homespun check (width of fabric = 44 inches) for binding 1/2 yard backing fabric (width of fabric = 108 inches) 1/2 yard quilt batting (width of batting = 108 inches)

Cutting Instructions
From Solid Red
(16) 4.75 inch x 4.75 inch squares
(8) 4 inch x 4 inch squares
From Cream:
(16) 4.75 x 4.75 inch squares
(32) 4 x 4 inch squares
(2) 2.5 x 11 inch rectangles
(2) 2.5 x 88 inch strips
From Red/Tan Homespun Check:
(5) 2.5 x width of fabric strips
Quilting Math
1/4 inch = .25 inch
1/2 inch = .5 inch
3/4 inch = .75 inch

All seams are 1/4 inch , unless otherwise noted in instructions
Press seams as indicated
Sew seams with right sides together
Make the hourglass units for one star block
1. Using a thin pencil, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of a cream 4.75 x 4.75 square.
2. On your work surface, place a red 4.75 x 4.75 inch square right side up.
3. Place the cream 4.75.x 4.75 inch square right side down on the red 4.75 x 4.75 inch square
4. Sew a 1/4 inch seam on each side of the diagonal line.
5. Cut along the diagonal line so you have two red/white half square triangles. Press seams toward
the red fabric.
6. Repeat Steps 1-5 to make a total of 4 half square triangles.

Make the hourglass units for one star block (cont’d)
7. Referring to the diagram below, use a thin pencil to draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one red/cream
half square triangle.
8. On your work surface, place one red/cream half square triangle right side up.
9. Place the marked half square triangle (from Step 7) right side down on the red/cream half square triangle
(from Step 8) making sure a cream triangle is matched to a red triangle as detailed in the diagram below.
11. Sew a 1/4 inch seam on each side of the diagonal line.
12. Cut along the diagonal line and press seams so you have two red/white hour glass units.
13. Repeat Steps 7-12 to make a total of 4 hour glass units for 1 Ohio Star Block.

Make the Ohio Star Block
1. Lay out the squares and hourglass units as detailed in the diagram below.
2. Sew the squares and hourglass units together by rows.
3. Sew the rows together to make one Ohio Star block.
5. Make a total of 8 Ohio Star blocks.
Make the Table Runner
1. Following the diagram on the front, sew all of the Ohio Stars together (right sides together).
2. Press seams open.
3. Attach the left and right borders using the cream 2.5”x 11” strips.
4. Attach the top and bottom borders using the cream 2.5”x 88” strips.
Finish the Table Runner
1. Layer the backing fabric, batting and quilt top. Quilt using your favorite quilting technique.
2. Sew the 2.5 inch binding strips together and attach to the quilt using your favorite binding technique.
