Welcome, Christmas Visitors

During this busy holiday season, we are blessed to welcome visitors to our

church home! The liturgical season of Christmas continues for the next two

weeks. We hope to welcome you back for the Feast of the Holy Family next

Sunday, the Feast of Mary, Mother of God on Wednesday, January 1, at

10:00am and Christmastide Taizé prayer at 7:30pm on Friday, January 3—and perhaps you will even decide to make this

your parish home! Thank you for sharing your prayer with us—your presence is a true gift.

Start Your Day with the Eucharist

Join us to be nourished by the Sacrament and by friendship! On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, our

8:00am chapel liturgy is followed by coffee and fellowship. On Monday and Tuesday mornings we celebrate Liturgy of the

Word with Communion, and Thursdays and Friday mornings (as well as Wednesdays at 12:15pm) Fr. Mark celebrates

Liturgy of the Eucharist (Mass) in the chapel. For those unable to join us here, we include the list of readings in the bulletin so that you can reflect upon them at home. You are also

invited to spend extra time with the Eucharist in Adoration during our First Friday Day of Prayer each month. Find details

online at www.strichards.com/first-fridays.

Why Is It So Important to Register in a Parish? Isn't it good enough that we go to

Mass? Many people think that because they attend a particular parish they are

automatically registered. Membership, however, requires signing up, formally

enrolling yourself in a parish. Registration is a commitment to a community, a way to be included in our religious, social and

ministerial activities. Your registration affects the parish in many ways. Census numbers can determine how priests are

assigned to a church, what benefits and obligations the community has to the diocese, and how Masses, confessions and devotions are planned and scheduled. Registration shows

you belong. It is also helpful for certain benefits, like scheduling sacraments, and getting donation statements for

taxes. Most importantly, it affirms your prayer, participation and generosity. On the first weekend of each month,

parishioner volunteers are available to answer your registration questions—or you can go online anytime to fill

out the registration form at www.strichards.com/join-us.

Growing in Faith Together (GIFT) Update Do you enjoy interacting with children in primary grades?

Make a connection as a substitute catechist or a classroom assistant. Do you remember having fun at church activities

when you were in junior/senior high? Are a good listener, have a sense of humor and enjoy interacting with youth? Now

is your chance to join our youth ministry team and give back! Training and resources are provided. Contact Susie Osacho

to learn more.

Bus to Christmas Day Mass

There will be a bus to bring people to the 10:00am Christmas Mass. It will run the same route as the first and third Sundays

of each month, however, the pick up times will just be one hour later than on a Sunday. The schedule will also be posted

online and on the bulletin boards. If you have questions, please contact Jolaine in the parish office.

The Deeper Meaning of Life

Are you feeling an internal call to learn more about Catholicism or

how to become Catholic? Have you been away from the Church

for awhile and looking to reconnect? Did you receive the Sacraments of

Baptism and Eucharist, but not Confirmation? Contact Susie Osacho to make a connection via 612-86-2426, ext 120, or [email protected]. Christmas Organ Premiere Thank you to all of the generous donors who made it

possible for us to replace our old, broken down organ! At 4:30pm on Christmas Eve, our new organ will have its premiere, so enjoy that new “voice” in our celebration!

Prayer • Participation • Generosity As we celebrate the gifts of the

Christmas season, we wish to acknowledge the generosity of

countless parishioners who contribute behind the scenes:

painting, cleaning, planning liturgies, rehearsing music, decorating for Advent and Christmas, and

countless other hours of time and energy. Our parish is truly blessed! Many parishioners made special donations to our Christmas Flower Fund to create this beautiful liturgical

environment. See next week’s bulletin for the names of loved ones who are being honored by those memorials. Year-End Gifts & Tax Benefits Any mailed contributions that are postmarked on or before December 31 will be included on year-ending giving

statements, which will be mailed out to registered parishioners in January.

Four-Week Women’s Book Discussion

Women of all ages are invite to discuss Jesus Approaches at St. Peter’s Church on Saturday mornings, starting January 11.

flourish in life. Please call 612-866-5089 to reserve your spot. The $25 registration fee includes the book. 2020 Retreats: Fear Not, I Am With You Always

Trust, especially trust in God, underpins our Christian spirituality. We are encouraged to trust in God’s providence,

in God’s presence in our daily lives, in God’s caring for us and those we love. Yet, that trust is constantly under assault by

many dark forces around us, most notably, the force of fear. What are some concrete steps that we can take to make our

faith demonstrative and vibrant? The Franciscan Retreat and Spirituality Center will offer their weekend retreats on this

theme at their Prior Lake retreat center. There will be women’s weekends January 10-12 and January 17-19, a

men’s weekend February 7-9, and a couples weekend February 14-16. For registration information and additional

2020 retreat dates, visit www.franciscanretreats.net or call 952-447-2182.

Fr. Jerry’s Crèche Exhibit Each year, St. Peter’s Church (6730 Nicollet Ave S, Richfield)

displays Fr. Jerry’s huge collection featuring hundreds of Christmas crèches from around the world. You may visit it on

Christmas Eve between 9:00am—10:00pm, Christmas Day 9:00am—1:00pm or New Year’s Eve 10:00am—6:00pm. Call

612-866-5089 for additional viewing hours through January 19. It generally takes an hour or so to view the exhibit.

What’s Working and What’s Not in the Archdiocese?

Archbishop Hebda especially wants to hear from Catholics who don’t attend Mass every week. Please prayerfully

consider attending an upcoming Prayer and Listening Event to give your input as the Archdiocese looks forward to the next

5-10 years. There are 20 Prayer and Listening Events scheduled this fall and winter. Learn more about the Synod

and see the schedule at www.archspm.org/synod. There you can also find ways to “pray along” with the process.

Archbishop’s Discernment Retreat

The Director of Vocations offers this annual retreat with talks by Archbishop Bernard Hebda, Saturday-Monday, December

28-30, at Christ the King Retreat Center in Buffalo, for men (seniors in high school through age 50) who are discerning

priesthood. There will be times of prayer, recreation, and plenty of great food. This retreat is an opportunity to gain clarity in your discernment process and to meet other men

who desire to follow Christ and to know his will for their lives. Register online at www.10000vocations.org.

Retreat for Healing the Wounds of Abuse Grief to Grace© is a spiritual and psychological journey providing safety and support for anyone who has suffered

degradation, neglect, or violation through physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, including abuse by a member of the clergy.

This effective healing process combines Living Scripture Exercises with group activity/discussion, therapeutic

facilitation, cognitive restructuring, journaling and offers an effective process for grief work grounded in Jesus Christ. For

details about the January 31—February 5 retreat in the Twin Cities, contact [email protected] or 612-440-7247.
