I Corinthians 3:6-7 Congregations often exert a tremendous amount of human effort trying toaccomplish what only God can do: to bring about the desired outcome of nurturing lives intofaithfuldiscipleship,providing impactfulmission/servicetotheworldandofferingministries that reflect thegospel imperatives.Yes,we’recalled tobediligentaboutplantingandwatering,butwe’renotcapable,onourown,ofdeliveringthefinal results–changed livesandgrowth inspiritandnumbers–Goddoesthat.Thebigthingsarethebigthings.Iampleasedtosaythe“bigrocks”thatIhavementionedinpreviousSpirelettersareinplace,orinthecaseoftheupdatedwebsite,soontobeupandrunning.These“bigrocks”thatwereidentifiednotlongafterIarrivedatthePinkChurchwerenecessarytosetafirmfoundationforthefutureofministryandprogramsatthechurch.But,sometimes,wemayfindourselvesfocusingalways,onlyonbigthingsandbecomedauntedbythetasksthatarerequiredtomakethemhappen.WhatPaulissayingtothecongregationatCorinthisthatGodultimatelyhandlesthebiggestmostimportantthings,thethingswecannotdoourselves.Godalonechangesheartsandlives,Godalonemakes“allthingsnew”inChrist.AsacongregationofGod’speople,wearereallyonlycapableofdoingthesmallthings.Butasmallthingdoneconsistently,donediligentlyandwell,inthehandsofGod,iscapableofchangingtheworld.Godcountsonustomanagethesmallthingsoflifetogetherasachurch.Whenwearewillingtodothesmallthings,whenwearewillingtobediligentaboutthem,andweaddthemalltogether–Godhasalottoworkwith.Andlivesdochange,andmissionmakesanimpactandministriesachievedesiredoutcomes.In the comingmonths, the leadershipof the church - staff, sessionanddeacons -will be taking the lead inoneseemingly“smallthing”,butonethatIbelieveisessentialtothehealthandvitalityofanycongregation- hospitality. By hospitality, I mean the intentional manner in which we welcome, have fellowship, makeconnections,andbuildcommunityamongmembersandvisitorsandfriends.Wehavealreadybeguntofocusattentiononourfellowshipgatheringsfollowingthe9:30and11:00amservices.PaulaDay,amemberoftheBoardofDeacons,hasbeensettingupandservingourtreatsandbeveragesandIcan’tthankherenough(Ihopeyouthankhertoo!).Ourplanistomoveourpost-worshipgatheringsontothechurchpatioduringtheseasonsothatwecanhaveatrulydedicatedtimeandspacetospeaktooneanother,andbuildrelationshipsamongnewcomersandmembersalike.BeyondthisveryimportantelementofourSundaymornings,churchleadersarelookingfornewcongregation-widefellowshipopportunities,includingtheMissionCommittee’semphasisoninvitationalmissionandaDayofDiscipleshipintheplanningstagesforFebruary,andtheCookies&CarolingeventonDecember21.Yet,mostimportantofallfortruehospitalityisYOU.Seeminglysmallthingslikeasmile,awelcometoyourpew,aquestiontosomeonewhoappearstobenew,“Hi,canIhelpyou?’addupandmakeabigdifference.Smallthingslikethat,doneconsistentlyandwell,inthehandsofGodarecapableofchanginghearts,churches,eventheworld.IlookforwardtosharingSundaymorningswithyouatourbelovedPinkChurch.

Whyisparticipatinginmissionsoimportant?Becauseitisthroughservice,withandforothers,thatweputourfaithintoaction.Missionisliterally“lovingyourneighborasyourself”.ThefocusfortheMissionCommitteethisyearis invitational mission-meaning,invitingPinkChurchmembersandfriendsto take part in hands-on mission through the many mission organizations we support. Every month we will highlightone or two of the our mission agencies and invite you to serveonaparticulardayandtime.MembersoftheMissionCommittee,alongwithPastorWayne,will takepart inthemissionactivity.InOctober,weservedonaSaturdayatSt.Laurence Chapel, cataloging and sorting supplies and weserveddinneronaThursdayattheAgapeCafe.

In November, we plan to offer a service opportunity atanotherofourmissionpartners,theWoodhouseHomeinDaniaBeach.DuringthemonthofDecemberthefocuswillbe on the Angel Tree and the Alternative Giving project.Plan to join us and support our mission partners! It isnotunusual for farm worker families to move several times a year following the crops.The Title I program assists students at TedderElementary,MarkhamElementary,Palmview Elementary, Charles DrewElementary, Park Ridge Elementary andCrystalLakeMiddleSchool.

ThisFallwasfullofadventureandnewbeginningsatthePinkChurch.OurChristianEducationdepartmentkickedoffthenewSundayschoolscheduleandclasseswithgreatexcitementandthenewChildren’schoir isalreadypracticing for theChristmasEveMusical. Aswebegin toenter theseasonofAdvent, Iwant tounderline theimportanceof faith formationathome.Ourchildren learn faithandhowto foster their relationshipwithGodthrough theexamplewe setasparentsand churchmembers. TheapostlePaulwrote in2Timothy1:5“I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother and your mother and now, I am sure, lives in you.” Faithispasseddownbyourancestorsandispartofourlegacy.Talkingaboutfaithathomeiseasybutitisalsoeasytoskip;maketheefforttoincludeChristianlanguageinyoureverydayconversationsathome.HereafewphrasesorquestionsyoucanuseathometohelpyourchildrenfeelconfidentwiththeirChristianbeliefs.

ISP Trike-A-Thon

The ISP trike-a-thon is on January 27th All proceedsbenefitSt.Jude’sChildren’sHospital.Last year our three and four year old’s raised over $7,800 for St. Jude’s andwe hadmanyvolunteers sign up on the donor registry! InSeptember,wetraveled to Orlando to Rock the Universe with thousands of other youth from around the country andouryouthgroupcontinuestogrow!Whatagreatwaytokick-offtheschoolyear.

• “Ignite!” MissionsWe embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ through philanthropic community events including collectingblanketsforthehomeless,AngelTree,aThanksgivingfooddrivetosupportneedyfamilies,fund-raiserstosupportmissionandtripsandayearlyChristianyouthconference.

• “Events and Adventures@ThePinkChurch” was launched;Thisministrytargetsouryoungadultpopulationand20ofushavealreadyattendedWorshipNightInAmericaattheAmericanAirlinesArena.

• Social Media: We have implemented a new social media infrastructure; whichencompassesavarietyofformsofsocialmedia(Instagram,Facebooketc.)andasachurchfamilywewillbelaunchinganewWebpageandAppforbothIphoneandAndroidoperatingsystems.

• LCS and ISP Integration: “Ignite!” “Ignite!”hasalsobegunasocialcampaigntoencouragestudentsandtheirfamiliestoparticipateinworship.Ourcontemporaryyouthband,ThePlayRightsarenowperformingonamonthlybasisatourcontemporaryworshipservice.OurchildrenfromImaginationStationarealsoparticipatingweeklyduringour9:30children’stimeandSundayschoolisnowofferedatbothour9:30and11:00AMworshipservices.

• Communication and technology upgrades:To support our efforts, we have implemented new technology to help us identify, plan, track,communicate and organize our ministry. Thanks to our teachers, leaders and spectacular staffof volunteers, Ignite Youth and Young AdultMinistry is poised to provide premier programs ofexperientiallearningforourchurchchildrenandyouthwhilestrengtheningtheconnectionbetweenthechurchandschools.
