We express our sympathy to Rick Shirley in the passing of his moth- er, Madge Shirley, on Tuesday. Her funeral was on Friday in Jones- boro. Our sympathy goes to Liz Flake in the passing of her mother, Mary Lynn Mosby. Arrangements were not complete on Friday. Thanks to your gener- osity, we were able to bless the children, staff and houseparents at the Paragould Children’s Home for the 7 th year in a row. Whether you at- tended the chili supper, made a cash gift, bought off the Amazon list, wrapped the gifts, loaded the trailer, joined us for the party, or prayed for the effort you were a part of this incredible undertaking. They con- tinue to be overwhelmed by the love and support provided by the Missouri Street Church, and I just have to tell them that I’m blown away too. 97 of us traveled there last Sunday and I know many more were praying over us. We played games, sang songs, ate delicious food and worshiped together before unveiling the Christmas presents. It was a moving time of fellowship, camaraderie and fun. I truly believe that we were the hands of feet of Jesus. When my faith gets shaky and I wonder if we can top what we’ve done before, you guys just show out and pour out God’s blessings on these precious people in a way that makes me so proud and so humbled that I almost can’t breathe. THANK YOU. Oh, how I thank you. May you be blessed beyond meas- ure. Scripture: Luke 2:8-11 In this passage the angels tell the shep- herds the baby they find is Christ the LORD. What does Jesus being LORD mean to you? Growing up, what was the authority structure like in your fami- ly? Why do you think so many of us struggle with surrendering to authority? Proverbs 3:5-6; Luke 6:46; Romans 14:7-9; Matthew 7:21- 23. These verses stress the importance of living a fully surrend- ed life. What are some things or areas of your life you have struggled to fully surrender to the LORDSHIP of Christ? Can you identify any barriers that are keeping you from sur- rendering these areas to Christ? Why would you think it is so important to live a fully surren- dered life? Life groups Christmas carols “Away in a Manger” Luke 2:8-11 (v.8) And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. (v.9) An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terri- fied. (v.10) But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. ( v.11) Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. Christ is LORD. What does it mean to "make Jesus Lord of your life?" I have often heard that expression used in sermons when the minister is extending the invitation. I think I know what that means, but the state- ment, in itself, can be a bit misleading. Misleading in the sense that GOD has already made Jesus LORD! Over 700 times in the New Testament the phrase, "LORD Jesus," “the LORD Jesus Christ," "Jesus Christ, LORD and Savior," or some form of that is used. Peter proclaimed on Pentecost, "Let all Israel be assured: GOD has made this Jesus, who you crucified, both LORD and Christ," (Acts 2:36). In today’s message, the challenge for us will be to think more along the lines of what it means to surrender our lives to the Lordship of Christ, whom GOD has already made and declared "LORD!" How does the “Lordship of Jesus” influence our decisions, behaviors and emotions? How does surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus in our lives change our rela- tionships (marriage, children, friends and coworkers)? May we all be blessed today as we grow deeper in our understanding of the Lordship of Jesus in our lives.
