St. Joseph Baptist Association Newsletter

January 2018 Beginning this year we have those born in this century (after December 31, 1999) that will turn 18 years old. This begins another century of adults seeking to advance their lives. So, what has ad-vanced in the last 100 years? In 1918 the First World War concluded with a result of over 16 million lives lost over 5 years. As horrible as the loss of life seemed from the war, 1918 would be marred with the loss of over 50 million to influenza. The flu af-flicted over 25 percent of the U.S. population. In one year, the average life expectancy in the United States dropped by 12 years; men dropped to 36 years and women dropped to 42 years. If you were an 18 year old young man half your expectancy of life was done. Currently in 2017 life expectancy is 77 for men and 81 for women. It’s hard for us to grasp the advance of health in 100 years, almost doubling life expectancy. We could also talk about the advancements in Technology, Transportation, Education, and so forth, BUT the real question is, “How did the Church advance the last 100 years?” The Church has been in existence for 20 centuries; 2,000 years. Over the last 100 years the Church has been through wars and persecution. The Church has had champions of the faith and fail-ures of hypocrisy. The Church has stayed trials and refining. Yet, it is the Church that God has cho-sen to announce Justification to the Lost and Sanc-tification to the Saved. It is the Church that receives God’s Grace and Mercy. Many will look at the last 100 years and proclaim the church has failed, but I cannot agree. The Church is not open to man’s in-terpretation of success, but is established by God’s design of Purpose. The Church is in more countries and reaching more people groups, proclaiming the Gospel of Christ, than ever in history. The Church is not in retreat, but continues to advance. YET, there are still masses that have not heard the Gospel and individuals whose heart is untouched by the Gos-pel. What does 2018 hold for the local churches in St Joseph Baptist Association? ADVANCE! There are masses to hear and individuals to reach. ADVANCE! The power of God’s Grace and Mercy is persevering and resolute. ADVANCE! The Pur-pose of the Church has not changed or weakened. (Romans 1:16) “For I am not ashamed of the gos-pel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” ADVANCE! Make Disciples that will Make Disciples. ADVANCE! Wor-ship, Glorify, Give Thanks, and Praise the one and only God. ADVANCE! We have a new year with

365 days to serve our God. It astonishes me that God has extended our life span over the last 100 years, allowing us to honor Him and serve Him day-by-day and moment-by-moment. What does 2018 hold for the Church? ADVANCE! Together on the Mission of Christ

PLEASE HELP US

There are several resources missing from the Mission

Center that have been checked out and not returned.

We are missing several bible studies, kits, videos/

DVDs, and other resources that we loan out. Please

check your church library and/or classrooms, to see if

you have any materials that belong to the association.

They should be labeled with St. Joseph Baptist Asso-

ciation.

We are also missing a set of red measuring cups (1

Cup and 1/3 Cup) and red measuring spoons (1 tsp.

and 1/2 tsp) that were used with the popcorn popper.

Thank you for your help.
