It may be that PlayStat ions are more po pu lar with bo ys as there ar e more games
avai lable appeal ing to their interests. The prob lem is no t so much the
PlayStat ions themselves, but the con tent of games and the length of time spent
playing. Some g ames have been crit icised fo r re in forc ing gend er stereotypes,
an d there have been some concerns raised about links between aggressivega me s and behavio ur. I t is impo rtant for parents to be aw are of the con tent of
g a m e s and how long spent play ing them.

Sleep assists in growth an d restorat ion of the body . There is no un iversal ly right
or wron g s leep pattern. W hatever sui ts th e indiv idual and the family is the right
solut ion. Chris tmas is an excit ing t ime fo r chi ldren and norm al bedt ime rout ines
are often disrupted. In the l ong run it can be less stressful fo r parents andchi ldren to be f lexible and enjoy th e momen t, rather than worry ing to o much abou t
a little loss of sleep. H owever chi ldren d i ffer in their need fo r s leep and parents
will know if thei r child is get ting ove rt i red .Lack of sleep can lead to short tempers
and tears in chi ldren as well as adul ts . If you r ch i ld b eco me s over t i red and
irr i table, take s o m e t i m e out to quietly read a story o r g o for a walk in the park-
an d perhaps p lan fo r bedt ime a l ittle ea rlier that n ight. Even if bedt ime is later
than usual , leave plenty o f time to unwind and go through usual bedt ime rout ines.
If you r child has a go od bedt ime rout ine and usual ly s leep s well , a little less
s leep or a br ie f chang e in routine is unl ikely to cause an y l ong term prob lems.
