    Martin amped

    up to entertainher true fans

Christina Martin is no strangerto East Coast Music Week, butshe says she still gets nervousplaying for a hometown crowd.

Martin, alongside local fa-vourites like Rose Cousins, JennGrant, David Myles and Rich

Aucoin, will be performing forhundreds of fans and delegatesthroughout this weeks festivalin Halifax.

Whenever were playingfor people we dont know ...its just more relaxing for mebecause I dont get nervous.

    Theres less expectation, Mar-tin said.

But then its exciting toplay for people that are yourtrue fans because they wantto hear the songs again, they

want to sing along.Martin, who is nominated

for pop recording of the yearfor Sleeping With a Strangerand songwriter of the year forher track Marina, went to SaintMarys University and startedher career here in 2008.

She already has an ECMAfrom 2009, and though Mar-tin said the hectic pace of thefestival can be overwhelming, rewarding moments happen

when you least expect them. The shows where it just

so happens you end up feel-ing really comfortable and youcan tell everybodys had a goodtime and it sounded good, saidMartin, who lives near Pug-

wash and has a recording stu-dio in her home.

Youre having this com-munication with the audience... just you and them, whetherits a laughing moment or a sad

    moment.Looking back at the last

25 years of music, Martin saidshes glad to be in the businessnow.

It would have been a lotmore difficult for me to sortof break in and sustain,b u t

y o uc a ndo thatnow withthe way thingsare with the Internet,Martin said.

Its easier to get your musicout there on your own.
