CHRIST THE GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC COMMUNITY September 13, 2015 SPRING, TEXAS 13 de Septiembre de 2015 1 Christian StewardshipTime Christian Stewardship is the understanding that all are made in the image and likeness of God and called to communityto discipleshipthrough the saving actions of Jesus Christ. Christians believe that everything that we have, are, can do and/ or will be is first and foremost a gift from God. Since God so generously shares the divine self with us and because we are created in His likeness, we are called to be like God, to share all that we are and have and can do with others. In other words, we are stewards, guardians, of all that God has given to us. Holy scripture teaches us that God asks a minimum of 10% of all of our time, abilities and assets back to Him in gratitude/ thanksgiving. Christian Stewardship is made up of three components, time, talent and treasure. We believe that God created all things, therefore He created time. So even with the time that God has given us, we are called to return to God a minimum of 10%. How many hours are in a day? That is easy, 24 hours are in a day. Ten percent of 24 hours is 2 hours and 40 minutes… right? So how many of us are dedicating even a small portion of that time to God every day? This can be done in prayer, in Christian service, in praying with and for others, in sharing faith, offering your talents/abilities to others, etc. Are you a good Christian Steward with your time? Arise Together in Christ This weekend we are inviting you to sign up to be a part of a small faith group community in the Arise/Levantate faith process. Arise Together in Christ is a three-year, parish-centered process of spiritual renewal and evangelization that enables you to deepen your faith, develop a closer relationship with Christ, grow in community, and reach out in service to others. It emphasizes people living in good relationship with one another, as they make concrete applications of the gospel in life situations. You are free to create your own group of 6-10 persons or, if you prefer, we can help you create a group. The three years are broken up into semesters. Each semester meets 6 weeks. The first meetings will begin in October and be completed by Thanksgiving. Please do not miss this opportunity to grow in faith and fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ at Christ the Good Shepherd. Perhaps this is one small way you can tithe a portion of the time God gave you back to God for your good and His glory. Catechetical Sunday We are recognizing catechists in our parish today and, in fact, everyone who has any role in Christian formation. Thank you to everyone who generously offers their time and talent to this ministry. Extras Welcome Matthew Suniga, a seminarian for our archdiocese who will be with us for the entire year. Welcome to CGS Matthew! Finally, I will be away from the parish through September 28 enjoying some rest and relaxation. Christ the Good Shepherd come to our aid. Fr. ¿no? The Serra Clubs of District 10 of Serra International encourage every Catholic to watch or listen to the Mass in which Pope Frances will elevate Blessed Junipero Serra to Sainthood. The Mass is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday September 23, 2015 on EWTN television or radio (KSHJ 1430 AM) in the Houston area. Blessed Junipero Serra was responsible for 22 missions established in what is now western Mexico and California. Serra International was established to promote and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Serrans and many others everywhere having been praying for years for the canonization of Blessed Junipero Serra rejoice that those prayers have been answered. There are eight Serra Clubs in District 10. The members of the Serra Club of Spring invite you to consider joining us in working for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. If you are interested, you may call Candice Tyrrell at 281-639-4859. For more information on Serra International go to: http://www.serrainternational.org/.

IN 1972 Pope Paul VI revised several ministries and minor clerical orders. One ministry that was preserved was the ministry of the instituted acolyte. While the term acolyte is at times used when referring to young men and women who assist at the altar (altar servers), the ministry of acolyte is a permanent institution. Because the ministry has its roots in the formation of ordained clergy, the ministry is reserved to men. The instituted acolyte is appointed to assist the deacon and serve the priest in the celebration of the liturgy. He is an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion serving only when sufficient ordinary ministers are not available. Men must be at least 21 years of age, fully initiated and living an exemplary Christian way of life, with no impediments to sacramental reception, (e.g. if married, one must be in valid marital union recognized by the Church). For more information please contact Cristina in the parish offices.
