The short answer is to communicate. This booklet lets you know who is supporting Christian and Community work. As they can only do so via their profits — we ask you to consider them when you require any work or services.

Why aren’t these Business People cheaper?

Because a cheap job rarely has lasting results. The business people featured here are encouraged to excel in work-manship. What this means to you is value in the long term rather than a short term saving.

Are all the people featured Christians?

Each person is supporting Christian work in the community — including some of the projects of the Christian Resource Trust. They have attested to their Christian faith.

Can my service or business be listed in the next Christian Referdex?

If you have a service to offer, practice your Christian faith and set a standard to your workmanship which is your best — then we would be happy to hear from you.

Are all denominations supporting the Christian Referdex?

All mainline Christian denom-inations have no problem with the work of the Christian Resource Trust. We have, and enjoy, an excellent working relationship with over 500 Churches and liaise with most of their leaders.

Is the Christian Resource Trust associated with any denomination?

There are no denominational ties as this may cause a barrier to form with other Christians. Our work is to serve the entire community of faith. We promote the Christian business and professional community and therefore increase their profitability and charitable giving.

In October of 1978 the name “Christian Business Directory” was registered in Australia. That’s just on 39 years ago, by Kerry Robinson, JP-Qual. Over those years it has developed into a function of the Christian Resource Trust.Thankfully the activity has survived two recessions, a financial correction plus whatever name history will tag the years following the Global Financial Crisis. Whilst it is appropriate to acknowledge the Almighty in all of this – the only other reason this continues is because there are people who actively believe there should be a Christian Business Directory in the city of Brisbane.Kerry Robinson acknowledged in the previous years some of the particulars of the twelve businesses which have been active supporters of the Christian Referdex Business Directory for well over 30 years.Richest blessings to them, and to all the Christian Business Community, who believe we “should do good to all people, especially within the community of Faith.” The words spoken by Paul to the Galatians. {Chapter 6 verse 10}.Blessings to our Church Leaders. Be they called Clergy, Reverend, Pastor, Father, Elder or by Army, Navy or Air Force Ranking.As Kerry wished to retire during the later part of 2014. With his blessings Cor Frederiks CA (Chartered Accountant) and former chairman and CEO of the Haggai Institute in Australia was asked to take over the “Christian Business Directory”, the “Referdex” and the Christian Resource Trust, having known each other for quite a number of years as Brothers in Christ and as Christian Businessmen.

By granting your permission to pass the Christian Business Directory to your people you maintain the link forged in 1978 to bless financially those who give generously to the Christian Based works in our Community and your Church.Blessed be the memory of the original “Heads of Church” who formulated the “Affirmation of Faith” and standards required to be part of this activity. What Happens When The Executor Is Dishonest?

Executors of an estate have an obligation to engage in the due administration of the estate. Enormous obligations are cast upon an executor to gather in the estate, pay all testamentary debts and expenses and to distribute the estate in a correct and legal way.

Commonly, an executor is unsure of his or her obligations without legal advice.

Executors who seek to administer an estate without legal advice may place themselves in a difficult situation where they are personally liable for the creditors of the estate and for large claims against them. Sometimes their mistakes are genuine, but all too often an estate is administered by a dishonest executor.

June,RobynandGrahamaresiblingswhosemother,Shirley, died four years ago. Shirley had a very normal-sized estate: a house worth $700,000 and some cash and investments worth about $100,000.

June,theeldestchild,wasnamedexecutorofherestate.Shirley had named her executor only because she was the eldest, rather than being the most capable. She was in fact a lady who had previously escaped prosecution for stealing benefits from Centrelink and had been in charge of a travel agency suspected of stealing money from clients.

AlthoughShirleynodoubthoped thatJunewouldacthonestly in her role as executor, she didn’t.

Rather than splitting the money evenly with her siblings, Junekeptmore thanhalf themoney forherself. Inaneffort to conceal the money, she moved it from account to account. She also moved into her deceased mother’s house and refused to settle the estate.

Robyn and Graham were forced to ask the court to removeJuneastheexecutoraftertheygrewsuspiciousabout her actions. Through the court action, Robyn and GrahamdiscoveredthatJunehadalso inflatedthecostof her mother’s funeral expenses and had been using her mother’s bank account for her own personal expenses.

By the timeJunewas removedasexecutor, shehaddishonestly acquired $75,000 from the estate and it is unlikely that Robyn and Graham will see those funds again.

The moral of this story is that it is disastrous to appoint someone to the role of executor if they have a history of dishonesty.Don’tbefooledintothinkingthatapreviouslydishonestpersonwill suddenlyactwith integrity justbecause you’ve died. The odds are that a dishonest person will continue to behave dishonestly, which could have catastrophic results for your estate and other beneficiaries.

If the other beneficiaries think that an executor is acting dishonestly, they must ask the court to remove the execfutor. The cost of doing this is high because by this time, the estate is likely to have suffered financial loss. In the case of modest sized estates, this stuation can leave the estate empty with nothing left for the beneficiaries.

Therefore it’s important when choosing who to appoint as your executor when you die to consider:• Apreviouslydishonestpersonisunlikelyto suddenly behave honestly upon your death• Thepositionofexecutorrequiresapersonwhowill not exploit the position for their own gain• Theconsequencesofappointingadishonest executor can mean that your beneficiaries end up with nothing except litigation

If you suspect an executor is acting dishonestly, seek legal advice from a Specialist in Succession Law as soon as possible. The sooner the situation can be remedied, the less likely the financial losses will continue.

Ultimately, it’s important to always seek legal advice regarding the administration of an estate.

Executor Disaster StoriesIt is quite common when considering who to appoint as executors of an estate, for parents to decide to appoint theiradultchildrenasjointexecutors. But what if the adult children don’t get along or don’t agree? Johndiedat theageof91.He’dsurvivedhiswifebyten years, and he decided to make all three of his adult children co-executors of his will.

Douglas,MarciaandLizaarriveatthefuneralandarecivilto each other throughout the ceremony. It doesn’t take long for the three adult children to remember why they barely speak, and spend most of their time at the wake complaining bitterly about each other and trying to drum up support for their own cause.

The first item that must be ticked off is to find the original will.Johnhaslefthiswillwithhislongtimelawyer,whomhehasknownandtrustedforyears.Douglasannouncesthat he doesn’t like the lawyer and won’t work with her. Nowthethreemustfindalawyertheycanallagreeontoget the will probated.

Douglas,MarciaandLizatryforseveralmonthstoagreeona lawyer toretain,andcan’t findone.Douglaswon’thire anyone under the age of 40 (too young), Marcia won’t hire anyone but a woman (too male) and Liza won’t hire anyone unless they have a ‘good vibe’.

Finally, after six months of arguments, the three decide to hire their own lawyers.

Note that instead of there being one legal bill to administer the estate, there are now three. The estate administration costs are likely to be three times more.

Now the three lawyersmust try toagreeonbehalfofDouglas,MarciaandLiza.Thefirst issueisthecontentsofJohn’shome.JohnwasawarveteranandproudlyworehisownwarmedalseveryAnzacDay.Douglaswantsthe war medals - he’s the only son. But Liza argues that Douglaswasnever in thearmy,andthemedalsshouldreallygotoherhusband,whofoughtinVietnam.Marciadesperatelywantsherfather’sweddingring,butDouglasandLizaobject.Ifshegetstheweddingring,whatwilltheyget that could be equal in sentimental value?

The arguments drag on along with the months. Small agreements are reached, but the legal fees are mounting.

In fact, they’ve almost agreed on how to divide the contentsofthehousewhenitoccurstoDouglas’slawyer:if the three can’t agree on items of very little value, how will theyagreeonthemajordecisions,likesellingthehouse,appointing a real estate agent, and dividing the proceeds?

Douglas’s lawyer,whohasagreatdealmoregreyhairsinceagreeing to representDouglas,suggests to thethreethatsincetheystruggletoreachagreementonjustaboutanything,theyshouldformallyagreetodisagree.Hesuggests the appointment of an independent administrator in order to finalise the estate. In these circumstances, the independent administrator is usually the public trustee or an accredited specialist in succession law.

Finally, after several more weeks, agreement is reached, and they make an application to court to appoint the independent administrator.The court appoints the independent administrator, an accredited specialist. She will now begin working on administering the estate and charging for her work - something that should have been commenced two years ago.

Instead of the legal fees being $4,000-$6,000, the estate’s total legal fees are now over $100,000 because the will maker thought that three people who don’t get on, will get onjustbecausehe’sdead.

Incaseslikethese,it’sfarbetterforDouglas,MarciaandLiza to hate the independent administrator than each other. The independent administrator will continue on with theirjobdespitethehate,becausetheyknowwhatthey’redoing, they don’t have favourites, they’re professional, they know the law, and they’ll save the estate money in the long run.

Ultimately, the moral of this story is to take into account the personalities and circumstances of those you wish to appoint as executors of your will. Sometimes, the fairest choice is to take it out of their hands completely and appoint someone independent such an Accredited Specialist in Wills & Estates or a Trustee Company.

A Strong and Defensible Internet

Back in the 1990s I warned about the emerging dangers of cybercrime. These dangers are now here. If we fail to provide some basic, core protection and associated training on the Internet, then we risk the future freedom and security of us all. If our approach is purely reactionary, then all we are teaching people to do is to be victims.

These people will remain ignorant of the dangers, and we will simply get more of what we have today. Billions of dollars have been poured into conventional attack, defence and training concepts and it is surely clear to all that these methods are not up to the task.

So the question is, what dowewant?Dowewant afragmented and insecure Internet where the only power is the brute force of those who control the most compromised Internet connections, or do we want.... A Strong and Defensible Internet!

If each compromised device has proven itself to be a threat asset, then surely each protected device must be a protection asset. Indeed, if we look at the Internet as more than a “global computer network”, and more like what it actually is, a “global people network”, then perhaps we can start to see why the current system is failing us so badly.

Until we marry computer and people protection into one form and function we will not even begin to address the real issues.

I am not criticising the quality of the current Internet protection and educational schemes. Some of them arewell thought-out.However,arecentnationalcybersecurity event which was deemed a roaring success and by the end of it, had the launch video viewed only 129 times, and the most popular of the educational materials viewed only 179 times. It was targeted at the wrong audience. Internet protection schemes are merely hiding threats from the users while most education material is going to waste for the lack of a good delivery method.

TheATLASProtectedNetwork is theproductofmanyyears of experimentation and design. It is a network

which promotes protection from, and education about, cybercrime at a time and in a setting where it is most effective and most needed. Only when the threat is real and visible can prospective victims have a frame of reference that allows them to understand the threat and how best to avoid it. Internet users are protected from cybercrime, and are directed toward the protection and education systems they need when it is relevant.

To achieve this goal we need two important components: Sponsors, and cooperation from ISPs to host information relay boxes. Relay boxes provide up to the minute intelligence from the C.O.R.A. Knowledge Engine at Web Management. The data is collated from the Internet itself, allowing for a quick response as threats are discovered. Threat intelligence is then used to protect people and link them to the educational materials they need, at a time when it is most relevant to them.

The plan in 2001, was to move our family from the north side of Brisbane to the Redlands to plant a C3 Church, C3Redland Bay, our heart for youth and families, is to encourage and inspire them to live their best life.

With this our Community Arm ~ The Cage Youth Foundation was created, to provide support to young people and their families in need.

We are called as Gods children to bring Hope to this world and when necessary use words. Over the years we have been involved with a number of very sad situations relating to youth suicides and tragedies’, on a weekly basis we are dealing with those who need a listening ear, as they deal with betrayal and the brokenness of their own lives or that which is imposed upon them by others, be it drug and alcohol related, domestic violence or grief. Working alongside other service providers and within local schools to assist with Mentoring, as Bullying takes on whole new levels. Nothing prepares you for dealing with a young person at age 13 that tries to commit suicide as they believe, their world, is not worth living in. Nor the families affected emotional, socially and physically by an ICE addict who was once their provider.

Only God can be that anchor, as we journey with these families, we have been called for this purpose, not to bring judgement or guilt, to their already guilt ridden lives but to show grace, bring hope and bring love into their world.

As a local church and a self-‐funded charity the challenge set before us is to secure sufficient funds that will enable us to purchase this God given property for generations to come. Located in Redland Bay on 4 acres of land, we are creating a Community Centre. (# Soon to be released Wedding Garden “The Chapel”.. in 2017

The Strategy is to look to secure 200 Businesses, Groups or Individuals, that would commit to making a donation of $5,000 over the course of the year -‐2017. These can be set up as weekly, monthly or one off donations. In doing so, this would enable us to arrange for purchase of this property and allow us to continue with the work at hand – Making A Difference.
