Our mission statement at Christ The King is a familiar one to most of us, “To Be and Make Disciples of Jesus Christ”. That means everything we are and everything we do is to be centered on knowing Jesus and making Jesus known. I wonder, however, how often we lose sight of this basic perspective? On some of my electronic equipment there is a button that looks like this: It’s the refresh button and you push it when you want your equipment to reconnect to the project that you are working on. Sometimes we get disconnected. We get disconnected from God, we get disconnected from each other, we forget who we are and what we are about. Do you need to push the “reconnect” button of your spiritual life? As we begin this Fall, I want to challenge everyone at Christ The King to reconnect again in worship and in small groups. I am doing a three part sermon series starting on Sunday, September the 6 th called, “The Journey”. I will be talking about some important things I’ve learned this summer and how we can reconnect with our mission of Being and Making Disciples. Sunday, September 13 th is our official Fall Kick-Off. It will be a special day of celebration and a wonderful time to invite friends and family

to check out our church! We will have a Breakfast Brunch between the services at 9:30 a.m., a Taco Feast after at 12:00 noon, as well as games, a Rock Wall, live music, and several information tables set up to let you know what amazing opportunities Christ The King has to offer this Fall and throughout the year! At The Brook, after worship there will be a fun time of appetizers, trivia games and fellowship! You won’t want to miss this event as we celebrate reconnecting with each other in worship, Sunday School, and small groups throughout the week. The Believe series also begins the week of September 13th! There are groups happening Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., and many other times and locations throughout the week. What better way to reconnect with God and each other than by being together in a small group?! I want to challenge everyone at Christ The King to make Worship, Sunday School and connecting with a Small Group a priority, we need each other and we need to meet together to encourage each other! I can’t wait to spend time with you and wrestle with God’s Word on how we can be more effective a Being and Making Disciples together. I look forward to seeing everyone in worship, and I know God is already challenging each of us on how to connect with those who don’t know Jesus. I am so thankful to serve Jesus with you! God has reminded me repeatedly this summer that our focus is to be faithful in loving Him and serving our community and each other. I see Jesus at work in you, and I see your heart and desire to love each other deeply. May God multiply this Body of Christ to storm the gates of Hell and connect people to Jesus!

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31 Blessings to you,

P. Mark

If you have lost someone who is close to you, it is hard to feel optimistic about the future now. If you have lost a family member or close friend, you have probably found that there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. That is the reason for GriefShare, a support group that includes a video seminar and group discussion. You will have the opportunity to interact with others, learn about their experiences and share your own. This is a nondenominational group, that features biblical teaching on grief and recovery topics. We start Thursday, September 3rd and go for 13 weeks. This year there will be a group at 1:00 p.m. (Fireside Room) AND a group at 7:00 p.m. (Egge Library). The facilitators are Liz Briel and Kathy Simmons. ANYONE is welcome. Contacts: Liz Briel, [email protected], OR Kathy Simmons, [email protected].

New Fall Young Adult Bible Study

CRAZY LOVE By Francis Chan

Mondays at 6:00 p.m. Begins September 14th

GOD IS LOVE. crazy, relentless all powerful love Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the prob-lems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to reli-gious complacency isn't working harder at a list of do's and don'ts — it's falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as Francis de-scribes it, you will never be the same. Because when you're wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

Join us on Monday, September 14th, at 6:00 p.m. Contact Josh Conley for more information and location: [email protected].

Two NEW Fall Women’s Bible Studies

All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on every-thing that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relation-ships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan depends on catching

you unaware and unarmed. If you're tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, this study is for you. The Enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God is a seven-session action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strate-gy to secure victory. This class begins Thursday, September 17th, at 6:00 p.m. in Room #5. The cost of books will be $15.00. Contact: Ellen Witzel, [email protected].

This is the newest study from Beth Moore and her daughter Melissa on the topic of the Holy Spirit. It is a six-week study with DVD's and a small amount of reading/ homework. It will begin Tuesday, September 22nd and finish on Tuesday, October 27th in the Fellowship Hall from 10:00 a.m. until noon. The cost of the books will be $12.00 payable at the first class. To reserve your book, contact Sharon Koehler, [email protected].

Christ The King Lutheran Church Preschool is a state licensed and non-profit preschool that started in 1994 as an outreach ministry to the families of this community. The program is designed to provide a quality early childhood experience where children can play. We believe that, "If it hasn't been in the HAND and the BODY it can't be in the BRAIN"! The Preschool program offers opportunities for the physi-cal, emotional, social and spiritual growth of the child. Each are encouraged to explore God's world at his/her own unique develop-mental level. We hold various events throughout the school year that help raise funds to provide supplies/materials and equipment that will pro-mote kindergarten readiness skills. The Vendor Fair is intended to help us to raise the funds to purchase a camera that will go into our Owl Box, as well as to be able to buy miscellaneous educational materi-als. The following are options for you and your business:

1. Each Vendor may “rent” a table (either round or rectangular), provided by CTKLP, at a cost of $25 per table. This rental fee will be your donation towards our fundraiser. All other profit you may make is 100% yours to keep.

2. Each Vendor may bring their own table and display materials, and instead commit a certain percentage of their profit to the Preschool as a donation. Christ The King Lutheran Preschool is a non-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, so your dona-tion is fully tax-deductible. If you would like more information, and/or an application, please contact Margo Roberts, CTK Preschool Director, at (760) 728-7908 or at [email protected].

Christina Eads Missionary to Japan

On Sunday, August 23rd, Christ the King was blessed to have Christina Eads return to us for a visit, and to share with us her stories of her ministry in Japan with Campus Crusade for Christ. This is an evangelical Christian organiza-

tion now known as Cru, committed to helping take the gospel of Jesus Christ to universities in all nations. Christina has been with Cru for the past six years. Two years at Cal State Fullerton, where she felt the call to Japan through a co-worker. Her heart is there in Japan, and it really shows when she speaks of her many friends, students and co-workers back in Tokyo. Her presentation between the services was well attended with many young people and, as Christina is a home-grown missionary from CTK herself, she may well have lit the fire for others that day. She spoke how she and her co-workers share the love of Jesus and the gospel to many who have never known Him. Less than one percent are Christian in Japan. They don't have to hide and they have freedom of religion there, but she shared with us that by working with Japanese co-workers, together they can dispel any misconceptions with those who have never heard the gospel before. Misconception #1 - That Christianity isn't just an American belief; Misconception #2 - With fellow Japanese believers, students can see that Jesus can be for them too! And that is what excites Christina, when she shares the gospel with a student and the light goes on and they want to learn more! Christina started ministering in Japan not knowing the language, but has studied and now can speak and understand Japanese. She asks for our prayers that soon, she would be able to read Japanese text better and that will help her share the gospel even more . She also asks us to pray for God's continued grace for her and those He puts in her path. We just love Christina and love receiving her updates. We have enjoyed having her home with us, and look forward to her next visit. We, on the Missions Committee, will continue to lift her up in prayer for her minis-try in Japan . We thank Christ The King for supporting her also, financially and prayerfully.

THE BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS There are many events coming up this Fall that we would like you to be a part of. Last year, we celebrated The Blessing of the Animals, which was started by St. Francis of Assisi. He believed that all God’s creations reveal something about the nature of God and His love.

Bring your animals again for a blessing on Saturday, October 17th at 9:30 a.m. for a short message and blessing given by Pastor Mark. Animals need blessings just as we do, so please join us. For more information, contact Diane Erickson at [email protected].

As always, you are invited to join the Missions Committee the 4th Monday of each month at

6:30 p.m. in the Egge Library as we pray and support all our mission partners. You can

find more information on the missionaries CTK supports in the back of the church.

GOD’S BOUNTY TO BEGIN SOON!

Name of New Ministry: God’s Bounty

What: CTK and San Diego Food Bank Neighborhood Food Distribution

Where: Vallecitos School in Rainbow

When: 1st Friday of every month

during the 2015-16 school year Partners:

CTK, Fallbrook Food Pantry, The San Diego Food Bank,

and YOU There is a new, simple and very easy outreach ministry at CTK called God’s Bounty. This ministry will be taking place at Vallecitos School in Rainbow and will be held the first Friday of every month during the 2015-16 school year. Due to warehouse construction at the San Diego Food Bank (SDFB), we have had to delay the start up until December 2015 or January 2016. SDFB will deliver a truck filled with fresh, seasonal produce to the school parking lot. With the help of Vallecitos 7th and 8th graders the food will be distributed at 12:30 p.m. to the families of students and residents of Rainbow. Our job is simple, simple, simple! We will bring tables from CTK and greet the SDFB truck. Students begin arriving at 11:45 a.m. to help us set up the tables, prepare the produce for distribution and help distribute the food to the clients. Food distribution runs from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.. The students help with clean up and we are usually finished by 2:00 p.m.. Any left over food remains at the school and is distributed by the school, the following Monday during car pool. Please give this prayerful consideration to your participation. It is a much needed ministry in the Rainbow community. For more infor-mation, contact Barbara McLean, [email protected].
