From the Pastor’s Desk

I am happy about the new Star Wars movie that will come out next weekend. I plan on seeing the film with a priest friend of mine on our day off – we’ve already purchased our tickets. Some are speculating on what will happen to Luke Skywalker and his sister, Leia, in the next episode. Will they use the Force and finally bring lasting stability to the galaxy? Or will the Empire continue to oppress the rebel forces? Many people are excitedly anticipating the answer to these questions and more. This sort of anticipation is perfect for the season of Advent. Yes, we want to see Luke Skywalker. But more importantly we want to see Jesus, and the Church excitedly anticipates his arrival. He comes not with the power of the Force, but rather with the power of the Holy Spirit to rule our galaxy with his unconditional love. As we enjoy movies and festivities this time of year, let us keep in mind the spiritual realities of Advent and Christmas. The battle between good and evil is not a sci-fi tale – it’s a real struggle within each one of us. The grace of these seasons help us to remain on the side of good and grow in holiness every day. May the Lord bless you throughout this week. And may the Force Holy Spirit be with you. The Sisters’ Corner

You are invited to the novena of posadas from Wednesday, December 16, to Wednesday, December 23. We will meet in the church at 7:00 p.m. every day except Thursday, December 17 (due to the All Saints Academy choir concert that evening). The posadas will feature Christmas carols, the rosary, and piñatas for the entire family to enjoy. We are excited to receive our newborn King! (This event is in Spanish.)

On Saturday, December 27, at 4:00 p.m., we will have a small Nativity play and a Christmas dinner to follow. Please RSVP with the sisters after Mass on the weekend of December 19-20. Come celebrate the birthday of Jesus with us! (This event is bilingual.)

Estoy feliz porque la nueva película de Star Wars estará en cines el próximo fin de semana. Estoy planeando ver la película con un sacerdote amigo mío en nuestro día libre - ya compramos los boletos. Algunos están especulando sobre lo que va a pasar con Luke Skywalker y su hermana Leia en el próximo episodio. ¿Usarán la Fuerza para finalmente traer una estabilidad duradera a la galaxia? ¿O el Imperio seguirá oprimiendo a las fuerzas rebeldes? Muchas personas están anticipando con entusiasmo la respuesta a estas preguntas y mucho más. Este tipo de anticipación es perfecto para el tiempo de Adviento. Aparte de querer a Luke Skywalker, también queremos ver a Jesús, y la Iglesia anticipa con entusiasmo su llegada. All Saints Academy Catholic School

Parishioners are invited to attend the All Saints Academy Christmas Choir Concert this Thursday, December 16, at 6:30 p.m. We will feature all of our grade levels and special readings to prepare us for Christmas. Once again it is time for the Annual Christ the King Women’s Retreat. The theme of our Retreat this year is THE GIFT OF FORGIVENESS. The Retreat is held at St. Therese’s Retreat Center, 5277 East Broad Street and will be led by Margaret Stichweh. Priests will be available for reconciliation and Mass on Saturday. While the Retreat is sponsored by the Women’s Club, any woman interested in attending is welcome.

In order to secure your reservation, please complete the form below, detach and mail it along with your $40.00 deposit check (made out to Christ the King Church). The cost for the weekend is $110.00. After December 22nd the registration will be opened up to women of other parishes that have not attended before.

We are again offering a day program at $70 for those unable to stay overnight. There are a limited number of day openings. Please indicate your preference on the reservation form.

If you are unable to attend after you have made your reservation, please call Kay Gordon (235-3153) or Mary Jo Mayhan (235-7465) so anyone on a waiting list can be called.
