    ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Instrumental Voluntary Poem by Charles Callahan Heather Cooper, organ Britt Cooper, piano Welcome & Worship Notes Call to Worship

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:1, 3-5 You have set your glory above the heavens. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.

Hymn No. 403 “Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty” Prayer of the Day

Rock of Israel and cornerstone of our common life, Genesis 28:10-15 you are not bound by our visions, our structures, our doctrine. We cannot predict your coming or going, yet you have given us your story, your family, your work to do. Meet us here. Shape us for service in your world, for we carry the name of Jesus and live by the power of your breath. Amen.

    Call to Confession

Sisters and brothers, Romans 8:14-15 all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. We did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but we have received a spirit of adoption. Let us then confess our sin with the freedom of children who know how deeply they are loved.

    July 19, 2020 Ten-Thirty O’Clock

  • Prayer of Confession Merciful God, Romans 8:12-15 your creatures cry—creation groans— but we turn away; we surround ourselves with noise. We are quick to excuse ourselves from responsibility: we are young; we are old; we are tired; we are busy. It is hard to imagine that we might make a difference. Life-giving God, wash us clean. Restore our imaginations and our hearts. Let your courage and compassion flow through our veins until we love with abandon and our hands reach out in blessing, for the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God. Amen.

Kyrie—Hymn No. 575 “Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us”

Lord, have mercy upon us; Christ, have mercy upon us; Lord, have mercy upon us.

    Assurance of Pardon

Sisters and brothers, hear the word of the Lord. In the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, God says unequivocally, irrevocably: you are my own; you are forgiven; and I need you to be about my business in the world. Go forth as a forgiven people.

Response—Hymn No. 583 “Glory to God”

LISTEN FOR GOD’S WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED Message for Children Prayer for Illumination Holy One, you love with a father’s tenderness, a mother’s zeal. Move now in our hearts. Breathe through the words we hear, the songs we share, the burdens we carry, until we discover our purpose in your liberating love. We long to join creation’s praise and to shine with the mercy of the Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

“Wheat, Weeds, and the Kingdom of Heaven”

The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and they will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine

like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let anyone with ears listen!

love of God? Can you imagine that God might be at work there, bringing life in

unexpected ways? What would change if you were to claim the promise that nothing

can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord?

CPC IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION! And so are we!

God is always working on us and through us!

Throughout the summer kids at CPC ages 3-7th grade will receive summer activity packs with a decidedly construction theme to them! These packets will be mailed every other week and include a devotion for that week’s scripture story with a tie in to what is happening with our construction here at the church and a craft. Keep your eyes out for yours!

Kids Zoom Meet Ups for our preschoolers and grade school students will continue through out the summer. July’s Zoom meet ups will be on July 14th and July 28th. The 3-K time is 11:00 and the 1st-5th grade is at 1:00. The link will be emailed out a day or two prior.

I came across this great family devotional resource that I wanted to share with our families. Each month I’ll be sending home a packet with sheets for each week that families can use to grow their faith together at home. The Scripture follows the Lectionary so the first Sunday reading for the week will follow our readings during Worship. Each week offers new verses, prayers, devotions conversation starters, and

family activities. I hope that this resource helps provide families a springboard to keep having family faith time at home! If you know of a family who would like to receive these monthly packets, just let me know and I’ll gladly add them to the mailing!
