Arvon, MD celebrated her recent graduation from the WVU School of Medicine on Dec. 9, 2011 at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, Eastern Division in Martinsburg. While the WVU School of Medicine Eastern Division has graduated many classes, the cere- monies are usually held in Morgantown, in con- junction with WVU School of Medicine/ Morgantown. Arvon is the first medical stu- dent to hold her gradu- ation ceremony at the Eastern Division cam- pus and the event was attended by her family and special guests. Arvon was a member of the first group of high school seniors selected for the Med STEP program in 2003. MedSTEP is a highly competitive academic program that provides pre-approved admis- sion for the WVU School of Medicine, provided that partici- pants remain in excel- lent academic standing and adhere to other scholarly requirements. It is a joint program with Shepherd University and the WVU School of Medicine. After suc- cessfully graduating from Shepherd University, Arvon entered medical school in Morgantown and completed her last two years of medical school on the Eastern Division campus in Martinsburg. Dr. Arvon is a gradu- ate of Martinsburg High School, the Shepherd University MedSTEP program and the WVU School of Medicine. She is the daughter of Skip and Yvonne Lantz of Martinsburg and is married to Trey Arvon. In January, Arvon will begin her residency at WVU’s Harpers Ferry Family Medicine. Family medicine resi- dency is a hands-on training program that takes three years to complete. A medical residency is a require- ment for all physicians who practice in the United States. WVU celebrates Arvon graduation Indie Elizabeth Marshall Asam Adrienne and David Asam, of Shepherdstown, wel- comed the arrival of baby Indie Elizabeth Marshall Asam on December 16, 2011 at 8:57 p.m. at City Hospital in Martinsburg. Baby Indie weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 21 inches in length. Baby Indie’s paternal grandparents are Carol and Erwin Asam of Shepherdstown. Baby Indie’s maternal grandparents are Bertha and Harry Wright of New Oxford, Pa. The baby’s maternal great-grandparents are Betty Larson, of Gettysburg, Pa. and Herbert Wright of San Diego, Calif.
