The UPark Vision: To be a community of Disciple leaders who practice stewardship and hospitality as we engage each other and the world around us.

Fourth Sunday after Pentecost June 21, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Since 1894 The UPark Core Values: Inclusive, Intergenerational, Interfaith, International

*A LITANY BENEDICTION AS SENIOR PASTOR Rev. Paul J. Kottke The Lay Leaders of University Park United Methodist Church will come forward to receive the signs of Office & Order. Rev. Kottke: When I came here to serve as your senior pastor, I was invited by this congregation to bring forth the Sacraments of our faith. Towards this end, I have sought to lead us into deep experiences with The Lord’s Supper and with Baptism. The time has come for me now to return to you as Lay Leaders of this congregation this Chalice and this Baptismal font as signs of the Sacramental Office. When I came as your senior pastor, it was part of my office to lift up the Word of God as contained in the scriptures, in both worship and Bible study. Knowing full well that understanding the Word of God is a life-long process, I have done the best that I could. The scriptures are real for me. They are alive and dynamic just as the Lord of Life is dynamic in our lives. The time has come for me now to hand back to you this bible, with the awareness that others will follow in my place and bless you with insights that I have not yet had. When I came as your senior pastor, I carried with me the stole as a sign of the office of Elder, with the primary task of so ordering the ministry of this church that together we would be a powerful witness of God’s Abundance for each other and for those beyond these walls. Together, we have done well with numerous challenges and opportunities. The time has now come for me to hand over to you this stole, as a sign that others will now lead you forwards into ministry. Others will now be your pastor. With these symbols of Office & Order which I have handed to you, I am no longer your pastor - your friend always, but no longer your pastor. Others will step into this role, as has been the case for the last 121 years. By the grace and love God, this will be so!

*POSTLUDE Sonata in D Domenico Scarlatti

Following the service, there will be a potluck and an "informal" goodbye celebration

from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in East Fellowship Hall. This is our opportunity to say goodbye to Paul and Jean, reminisce about the last 20 years, enjoy some laughs, and be in fellowship!

See insert page for more tributes!

Our Sanctuary flowers today are given by Jackie Weber with a special message: “My thanks to you, Paul, for your leadership and commitment to our church for over twenty years. Your wisdom, vision, and guidance have made great things happen at UPUMC. Your friendship and love have created a strong and friendly church.” And, to Jackie’s message, we all say, “Amen!”

In lieu of gifts the Kottke’s have requested donations go to our DU Foundation Campus Ministry. Please make checks payable to UParkUMC with “campus ministry” on the memo line. We thank the Kottke’s for their passion in providing continued support for our vital campus ministry.

We are grateful for Pastor Paul sharing his love and ministry with us!

…You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind…And the second is like unto it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. [Matthew 22:36-40]
