Read the following passage, then answer the questions:
The sun was high in the sky and the rays shone directly on a
bare piece of ground in the forest. In the centre of this bare spot
there was something that looked like a large stone; it was a tiger.
The tiger lay quite still. It was no longer able to attack the deer
that were so easy to kill when it was young. They moved too
quickly for it now. In order that it might live, it found itself forced
to hunt the weakest animal of all, namely man. In other words, the
tiger became a man-eater. It would wait impatiently near the
stream until some unfortunate woman came near enough for it.
When the men of the village arrived at the scene of the killing, the
tiger was far away.
People began to talk about it. Some of them made efforts to
find it, but in vain. The tiger's habit of never going to the same
place where it had once killed made it very difficult to know where
it was. Tricks of all kinds were tried. Traps were cleverly laid but
the tiger escaped them all. One morning the people of the village were surprised. They found the tiger lying dead near the lake. The villagers discovered that the old tiger had a fight at night with a big buffalo.
