Friendsbychoice welcomes you to ChoiceArt 2014!
This year marks our 5th anniversary of ChoiceArt, an annual celebration of fine art, fun people, and the essential role Planned Parenthood plays in our community. All proceeds of ChoiceArt 2014 support Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, ensuring we are able to continue to set the highest standard for affordable reproductive health care and sex education.
For more than 80 years, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri has empowered women, men, and teens to make healthy decisions and take control of their sexual futures. Your valued support means we can continue this important work and keep the promise we’ve made to Care. No Matter What.
Welcome

A LETTER OF GRATITUDE
Our heartfelt thanks to each artist who generously donated their work and to the sponsors and partners who contributed to this event.

Dear Friends,
Welcome to ChoiceArt—a celebration of art and Planned Parenthood! Five years ago, a few friends decided to organize an art auction to benefit Planned Parenthood. It was an intimate but successful event. Each year, the event has grown exponentially in both the artists showcased and the funds raised.
The founders of ChoiceArt created the event because they wanted to give something back to Planned Parenthood. Thank you for being here tonight, and for valuing Planned Parenthood’s mission to provide comprehensive reproductive health services and education to anyone in need. Regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or wealth, Planned Parenthood allows all people to exercise control over their own bodies, contributing to a healthier, more egalitarian society.
Thank you for standing by Planned Parenthood just as Planned Parenthood stands by all who seek its services.
And thank you to this year’s Honorary Chair Jane Linders, the Host Committee, and the ChoiceArt Founding Co-Chairs for making this wonderful event possible.
Enjoy your evening,
Cori Garland, CHAIR, friendsbychoice

LIVE-AUCTIONARTISTS JANE LINDERS // ARTIST
Jane Linders is an award winning photographer whose prints are in numerous
national and international collections. Linders has exhibited her work everywhere
from her hometown of St. Louis, MO to The Smithsonian Museum. She is a
tireless image maker, whose work can be seen in galleries, books, magazines and
newspapers. “I photograph the places and things that catch my eye as I travel
through life.” Her favorite subjects are the eerie beauty of historical cemeteries
as well as the oddities of roadside America. You might find her lurking around
cemeteries anywhere in the world.

MYLES KEOUGH // ARTISTMyles Keough creates worlds within canvas. Using spray enamel reacting to chemicals he creates
a foundation untouched by brush strokes. These foundations defy scale, looking to some as
atmospheric and to others microscopic. Within these foundations, Keough introduces architectural
elements creating cities complete with names and populations. These cities do not represent
actual cities you may have visited, rather a city that only exists within the canvas. Myles has been
showing artwork in St. Louis for ten years and is the Lead Teacher at The Youth Learning Center.
Keough’s work has been featured in shows at The Syndicate Gallery, Vino Gallery, Concrete
Ocean Art Gallery, Duane Reed Gallery, Herrick Foundation Gallery at Culver-Stockton College,
Art Monster, Moi Solo Gallery, and Art Dimensions Kastle Gallery.

MICHAEL HOFFMAN // ARTISTI want to put forth something universal that can be open to interpretations, that are unique to
each individual, and can continue to evolve over time. A common theme in my painting is the
relationship between rigid linear form and the organic flow of nature, order and disorder. I feel
this is reflective in many ways of our society and peoples’ longing for something more than the
sterility of technology in our modern lives. Inclusion of these two elements creates a certain
universal harmony in many of my paintings.
Michael was born in New York City in 1965. He attended The Evergreen State College from 1983-
87, studying film and photography. After graduation, he took his camera and traveled extensively
throughout Europe. With no formal education as a painter, Michael draws on his eclectic past for
inspiration—strongly influenced by his travels throughout Spain and France and rich colors and
textures marked by time. Michael moved to St. Louis in 2001, where he works as a full time artist
and raises his daughter and twin boys—a lifetime dream. His artwork is collected by individuals
and corporations worldwide.

CHARLES HOUSKA // ARTISTPop-artist Charles Houska (pronounced House-ka) has been a working artist for more than
20 years and opened his own gallery/studio, Houska St. Louis, in 1998. St. Louis is now
his home base.
Born and raised in Springfield, Illinois, Houska earned a bachelor’s degree in art/visual
communication from Illinois State University in 1987, and worked as a graphic designer
in Chicago for a few years before moving back to Springfield and gradually moving to St.
Louis.
His art has appeared in a variety of forms, from credit cards to shower curtains to an
Illinois license plate. Major corporations, including St. Louis Metro, Emerson Electric
Co., Absolut Vodka, and Bergners Co., have commissioned Houska to create artwork for
their specific needs. Houska also involves himself with various charitable organizations,
especially those dealing with animals. In addition, Houska markets a line of merchandise
called Houskadoodles, which include t-shirts, greeting cards, magnets and more.
