Instructions

Let the students know in advance that they will sit this test. Emphasise that it is not something toworry about.

Print one test form for each student (print double-sided to save paper). The students should not receive specific preparation for the test. Conduct the test in a quiet place where you wont be disturbed by other people. Be friendly to the

student and make sure the student is sitting comfortably.

The test is 100% in English. Do not use any Khmer during the test. The guideline answers are simply guides. There may be other acceptable answers. A correct answer gets two points. If an answer is partially correct then award one point for it. Try not to look busy writing during the test. Let it be very clear to the student that you are listening

to them.

Dont ask a question if you already know the student cannot answer it. For example, dont ask thestudent to count from 11-20 if they cant count to ten.

When the questions become too difficult for the student, or when the student fails to answercorrectly two or three consecutive questions, then end the test immediately. This will stop the

student from losing confidence.

Ask the student to write a simple word/phrase in English at the end of the test. You can write comments at the end if you think you have something useful to say about the student. Congratulate the student at the end of the test no matter how good or bad they performed.

The scores from this test are solely used to help place the student in a certain class. The scores should need

only be known by the Choice English staff. The student is not told their score.
