City Introduction
Background: Gazipur City Corporation is the largest and 11th city corporation of the country. Total area of City Corporation is 329.53 sq.km and population is almost 3.0 million. Gazipur City Corporation is located in the center of the country. Connectivity of the capital city Dhaka with northern regions is through Gazipur City. It lies between 23052’45" and 2406’12"north latitudes and between 90015’2"and 90029’50" east longitudes.
Challenges and Opportunities:
1. Improper solid waste management.
2. Environmental pollution and water logging due to improper drainage
3. Land Crisis and Capacity Constraints. 4.Insufficient Water Supply

Steps to be taken by the City Corporation
1. Preparation of action area plan is going on.
2. Preparation of sub project priority list.
3. Water supply, drainage and road network projects have been
taken by the JICA finance.
4. PFS and FS for the Solid waste treatment plant will be started
soon.

Infrastructure Project Overview
Necessity: In Gazipur City Corporation, a huge quantity of solid waste almost 600 ton is produced every day. But there is a lack of dumping sites, equipment and garbage trucks. For this solid waste management project is needed.
Objective: To make a green, clean, livable and pollution free city for all.
Beneficiaries: Ultimately, total population of the city will be benefited from the project. They will get a clean and pollution free city. On the other hand, many new employment will be generated due to the project.
Key Steps: Solid management is one of the vital activities of the city corporation. It is included in cities development plan. City corporation has taken has several strategies such as- crash program, establishing road side dustbin (Secondary points), public awareness program, etc. And now we are trying to take a project to establish solid waste treatment plant. 11

Technical Description
Project description: Construction of solid waste treatment plant.
Project components :
1. Land.
2. Vehicle (Garbage Truck, Pay loader, Excavator, Chain Dozer, etc)
3. Modern Equipments related with solid and liquid waste management (e.g. Compactor).
Supporting measures: To make the project viable fund, land purchase, different types of vehicles, modern equipments, technical support and capacity development activities are needed.
