Transcript of CHIPS Alliance Overview - RISC-V
CHIPS Alliance Overview(Common Hardware for Interfaces, Processors and Systems)
Capitalize on the Energy of Open Source
Collaboration to Accelerate Hardware Development
What is CHIPS Alliance?
› Organization which develops and hosts high
quality, open source hardware code
› Group endeavors to create more open source
software development tools
› A barrier free environment for collaboration
› Shared resources which lower the cost of
hardware development
2
Project Goals
3
› Leverage common hardware development efforts so
• IP blocks can be broadly used
• Verification contributions benefit all
› Deliver high quality, open source CPU designs,
peripherals and complex IP blocks
• Known validated blocks that can be quickly adopted in silicon
and/or FPGAs
Project Deliverables
4
› The scope of the Project includes hardware and software
design and development under an open source license
• SoC IP blocks based on RISC-V
• Open source software development tools
• Other high value IP
– Peripherals, Mixed Signal Blocks and Compute Acceleration
› Digital Projects will be developed with Verilog or System
Verilog
› Design simulation will be done with open source tools such
as Verilator
Ecosystem Participants
› Initial members: Google, Western Digital, Esperanto, SiFive
› Many additional members joining at the inaugural workshop
on June 19th
5
Project Curation
› The technical committee will review project
proposals and accept those deemed to meet
the appropriate complexity and value
› A product maintainer will lead the project
6
Community Outreach
› Workshops to be held at member
companies or universities
› June 19th Inaugural Workshop at
› RISC-V members companies are
welcome
› Open to all organizations
