CHINO HILLS HIGH SCHOOL

SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN 2019-2020

Dear Parents and Students:

The following is the 2019-2020 Chino Hills High School Scholarship

Bulletin. The scholarships are listed by approximate deadline

dates as some change yearly. It is important for students to apply

for a scholarship before the deadline.

This list is based on the scholarships encountered in past years.

New scholarships will come around and some, which are listed,

may no longer exist or may have undergone changes. If possible,

always check websites for updated information on scholarship

offerings.

It is the student’s responsibility to request information and/or applications.

Scholarships marked (LOCAL) will be awarded to students in the local area. These are the

ones the student has the best chance of receiving.

The following page includes tips for students to help them with their scholarship hunting.

Otherwise, scholarships are listed by month of deadline due dates. Please view all pages of

COUNSELOR’S TIPS FOR SCHOLARSHIP HUNTERS

1. Start early and check with your counselor often throughout the year.

2. Check out the Scholarship Bulletin Board in the Career Center regularly.

3. Take the SAT and or ACT tests early (many scholarships require SAT scores).

4. Listen to the Daily Bulletin for scholarship announcements.

5. Use the computer system in the Career Center, library or at home, to gather scholarship

information. Extensive links are provided at the bottom of this bulletin. (Do this early in the

year to meet deadlines).

6. Use free Internet scholarship searches, check out the links at the end of this bulletin.

7. Check with clubs, unions, churches, etc. that you and family members belong to, for scholarship

information.

8. Look in newspapers and magazines for scholarship announcements.

9. Write, call or visit the financial aid office of the colleges, universities or other schools which you

are planning to apply to.

10. Have parents check with their employers.

11. Find out if you are eligible for benefits from the military if you are the child or grandchild of a

veteran.

12. BE WARY OF COMPANIES THAT WANT YOU TO PAY THEM FEES OR BUY EXPENSIVE BOOKS

FOR SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION. YOU CAN PROBABLY GET THE SAME INFORMATION FROM

CHHS SOURCES OR THE INTERNET FOR FREE! Find out about Scholarship Scams at:

http://www.finaid.org/scholarships/scams.phtml. The Federal Trade Commission has an on-line

complaint form at www.ftc.gov/scholarshipscams and a hotline at 1-877-FTC-HELP.

13. Many private colleges require the CSS Financial Aid PROFILE Form be filed, on line, early in the

year. Go to collegeboard.com for a list of these colleges and to file.

14. Be sure to file a FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) between October 1 -

March 2 for state and federal grants and scholarships. (You need to file these forms even if you

do not think you will qualify for government aid, as all college financial aid offices use the

student aid report to determine eligibility for other types of scholarships as well. The fact that

you don’t qualify for government aid may mean that you do qualify for something else.) Paper

copies of the FAFSA are no longer sent to the schools. You must submit your FAFSA

via the internet! Apply at: www.fafsa.ed.gov by MARCH 2.

16. Apply early to colleges (in November for Cal. State and U.C. Universities). For Private

Universities, check with each one individually.

17. If applying to Private Universities, check to see if there are any special financial aid forms

required by them.

18. Remember, scholarships are not likely to just come to you - YOU have to go out and get them -

SO GO FOR IT!
