CHINESE TEA

Page 2: Chinese Tea

Legend has it that the first cup of tea

was brewed in 2737 B.C. when dried

leaves landed in a boiling cup of

water served to the Chinese Emperor

Shennong.

From China, tea made its journey

throughout the world and is one of

the most popular, refreshing

beverages in the world today.

The Chinese have a saying:

Firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce,

vinegar and tea are the seven

necessities to begin a day.

For the longest time, tea was used

as an herbal medicine.

During spring and autumn, fresh

tea leaves were eaten as vegetables.

Tea as a drink prospered during the

Tang Dynasty (700 AD), and tea

shops became popular.

Today, the Chinese drink tea throughout

the day, including during meals, as a

substitute for plain water for health or

simple pleasure.

Contrary to what is assumed, Chinese tea

is not a particular type of tea but it's tea

processed using methods inherited from

ancient China.

Tea has a deep cultural role to play in

China even today.

It is also used in religious ceremonies in

China as a sign of respect to the

deceased.

tea ceremony is a Chinese cultural

activity involving the

ritualized preparation and

presentation of tea.

It is an elaborate tea process that

involves the use of miniature Yixing

pots and cups

The original term gongfu cha literally

means "making tea with effort“

Every part involved in the Gong Fu tea

preparation process is meant to be

small and delicate
