GENERAL FEATURES

The EASY.R liquid chillers offer a simple and cheap solution for domestic and small offices application.

Criticality of these smaller systems are the same as the larger installations, differing only in size Comfort requirements for a small 40m2 2/4 persons advertising office are just the same but smaller, than for an equi-valent 1000m2 / 100 persons location.

Designed for comfort applicationsThese liquid chillers grant the same reliability of the other RC Group products, being designed and manufactured with same philosophy as all RC Group products during more than 40 years activity.

Thanks to this long experience, the main repetitive fault rates and relative causes have been eliminated through the use of well tested and top quality components.Furthermore, all maintenance operations have been reduced at the minimum, since this type of chillers are now to be considered as a common home appliance, that does not require any frequent and complicated operations.

The wide range of cooling capacity, from 21 to 1475 kW and the available versions, make possible the use and the combination of different components on the refrigeration and hydraulic circuits in the UNICOchillers range.Indeed, they can be equipped with scroll, reciproca-ting, screw and centrifugal type compressors; plate and shell and tube type evaporators; axial and cen-trifugal type fan.The high energy efficiency is granted by a general design that foresees an independent refrigeration circuit for each compressor installed on the unit.The components completeness together with the wide range of available optional accessories allow very quick and easy installation operations; the units simply need electrical and hydraulic connections.

“A” CLASS ENERGY EFFICIENCY VERSIONThe UNICO.TURBO series is characterized by its high

working conditions during the year, thanks to the special compressor installed in these units.

The UNICO.TURBO liquid chillers are provided with an innovative two-stage centrifugal compressor with magnetic levitation bearings providing deliver revolutionary features and benefits compared to the traditional machines available in the market.First of all, the magnetic levitation bearings elimi-nate the presence of oil inside the compressor and consequently inside the refrigerant circuit, while the compressor electric motor is controlled by an inverter, obtaining a continuous cooling capacity variation from 20 to 100%.

The cooling capacity is controlled also by the movable inlet guide vane system on the compressor’s suction port that diverts the angle of the gas entering the impeller as needed.This allows to follow with considerable accuracy the trend of system thermal load.

MULTIPLICITY OF VERSIONSAND COMPONENTS

The wide range of cooling capacity, from 21 to 1079 kW and the available versions, make possible the use and the combination of different components on the refrigeration and hydraulic circuits in theREVERSO heat pumps range.

Indeed, they can be equipped with scroll and re-ciprocating type compressors; plate and shell and tube type evaporators; axial and centrifugal type fans.

The REVERSO heat pump chillers series are the ideal solution for all those applications where the air conditioning is needed all year long, cooling in sum-mer and heating in winter. The peculiarity of the RC GROUP heat pumps is the IDEA® defrosting system.

The components completeness together with the wide range of available optional accessories allow very quick and easy installation operations; the units simply need electrical and hydraulic connections.

MAXIMO.A “G”

The MAXIMO series is a type of liquid chillers equip-ped with a built-in additional coil making Free Coo-ling using the outdoor air as cooling media.The free-cooling system installed on these chillers has been designed and applied by RC GROUP for the first time in the early 70’s and the today’s series is the result of more than 30 years experience.These chillers allow to achieve remarkable energy savings when installed in cold and temperate climate zones.

The components completeness together with the wide range of available optional accessories allow very quick and easy installation operations; the units simply need electrical and hydraulic connections.

The MULTIPLO liquid chillers are multifunction air cooled packaged units suitable for 4 pipe plants.Designed for air conditioning applications in any climatic zone, they are suitable for hotels, health centres, hospi-tals and for all those installations where the simultaneous production of cold and hot water is required.

The choice of their configuration is also multiple: screw and scroll type compressors, axial and centrifugal fans, R134a or R407C refrigerant.

IDEA® defrosting system“Patented” defrosting system with dynamic reading of working parameters. Thanks to proprietary sof-tware it senses the real presence of brine on the coil starting defrosting cycles only in that situation. GENERAL FEATURES

TRILOGY, multifunction liquid chillers range produced with R410A refrigerant, represents the best solution for all those air conditioning applications requiring si-multaneous production of chilled water, hot water for heating and sanitary water all year long.Some of possible end-users are hotels, hospitals, offices, shopping centres.

First in its kind on the market, the TRILOGY multi-function chillers range features compact dimensions (the specific components for operating high pressures of the R410A refrigerant have reduced dimensions if compared to those applied for other refrigerants), low noise level, high energy saving, wide range of optional accessories.

IDEA® defrosting system“Patented” defrosting system with dynamic reading of working parameters. Thanks to pro-prietary software it senses the real presence of brine on the coil starting defrosting cycles only in that situation. This brings a remarkable energy saving (more than 20-30% on the average) and a higher working continuity compared with tra-ditional systems.

WORKING LOGIC

TRILOGY.BIReversible heat pump. The production of sanitary hot water is made through partial or total heat reclaim systems and it matches the normal production of chilled or hot water according to the following schemes.In working condition no. 4 (simultaneous request of hot water for heating and sanitary water) the system gives priority to the sanitary water production. Only when the sanitary water request is satisfied, the system will start producing hot water for heating.

TRILOGY.TETRA Multifunction liquid chiller with simultaneous production of chilled and hot water. The production of sanitary hot water is made by the installation of a desuperheater (optional accessory) for the partial heat reclaim. The sanitary water is always produced regardless of the working request.

TRILOGY.ESA Multifunction liquid chiller with simultaneous production of chilled water, hot water and sanitary water.In working condition no. 4 and 7 the system gives priority to the sanitary water production. Only when the sanitary water request is satisfied, the system will start producing hot water for heating.

MULTIPLICITY OF VERSIONS AND COMPONENTS

The wide range of cooling capacity, from 127kW to 4138 kW and the several available versions, allow the FRIGO chillers range the use of three different types of compressor.Indeed, they can be equipped with reciprocating, screw and centrifugal compressors, operating with shell and tube type evaporators.

LIQUID CHILLERS IN “A” ENERGY CLASS The FRIGO.TURBO series is characterized by its high

working conditions during the year, thanks to the special compressor installed in these units.

The FRIGO.TURBO liquid chillers are provided with an in-novative two-stage centrifugal compressor with motor shaft and impellers equipped with magnetic levitation bearings

to the traditional machines available in the market.First of all, the magnetic levitation bearings eliminate the presence of oil inside the compressor and consequently inside the refrigerant circuit, while the compressor electric motor is controlled by an inverter, obtaining a continuos cooling capacity variation from 10 to 100%.The cooling capacity is controlled also by the movable inlet guide vane system on the compressor’s suction port that diverts the angle of the gas entering the impeller as needed.This makes it possible to follow with considerable accuracy the trend of system thermal load.

The “K” version is designed for installation in parallel, to achieve high cooling capacity in reduced spaces with high silentness need.

WHAT IS AN ABSORPTION CHILLER?

An absorption chiller is a thermal machine that uses heat to produce cooling energy.

Generally speaking, an absorption chiller can be properly used everywhere chilled water is required and at the same time waste heat is available or electric power is not available or not economically convenient.

APPLICATIONS

COGENERATIONLow temperature heat produced by reciprocating engines is practically not useful during summer mon-ths. It can be recovered and used to run an absorp-tion chiller, so that it is possible to produce cooling power in these months.Also exhaust gases coming from a gas turbine can be recovered to produce steam or hot water and run an absorption chiller.

DISTRICT HEATINGDistrict heating networks use the heat recovered from the electric energy production plants or by wa-ste thermal incinerator plants.During the winter the heat produced by the district heating network is used to heat the building. During the summer it can be used for the building cooling by means of hot water fired absorption units con-nected to the network.

HEAT RECOVERYWhere waste heat is available, as for example in ho-spitals or industrials processes, it can be economi-cally convenient to use absorption chillers (hot water or steam fired).There are a lot of industrial processes that have ideal conditions for the use of absorption chillers: waste heat available and cooling required (printing, pharmaceutical, chemical, automotive, food, textile, biotech, electronics....).

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONSThe information technology application operate in me-dium and big size plants located in city centres to be as close as possible to the users and where the reque-sted cooling capacity is very high (1.500/3.000 W/m2).

Nowadays most of the cities have no availability of the electric energy that this type of plant needs. The self-production of electric energy will be necessary with cogeneration systems.The energetic balance (in terms of electric and cooling energy required) of an Information Technology building is equal to an engine powered cogeneration system

of electric and cooling energy released).

Thermal compression vs. mechanical compression

In a conventional, mechanical vapour compression cycle, the refrigerant evaporates at a low pressure producing the cooling effect.It is then compressed in a mechanical compressor to a higher pressure, where it condenses. In most of the ma-chines in the market, the compressor is normally powered by an electric motor.In an absorption chiller the evaporator and condenser are essentially the same, but a chemical absorber and a thermal generator replace the compressor, with a pump to provide pressure change.In this absorber the refrigerant generated in the evaporator is absorbed into liquid state. Then, thanks to the pump and to the thermal generator, the pressure difference is obtained and the refrigerant is transformed into vapour state again, before entering the condenser.

GENERAL FEATURES

Air conditioning is the largest single contributor to power plants and lines electrical “peak demand” charges, especially during summer daytime hours.After noon, as more air conditioners are needed to maintain comfortable temperatures, the increased demand for electricity adds to that already created by lighting, operating equipment, computers and thousand of others uses.This require the utility to bring additional, more co-stly generating sources on line to handle its increa-sed demand.Commercial users whose large air conditioning loads contribute to these added generating requirements are assessed an additional charge based on their highest on-peak demand for electricity.A Stored Cooling System is either a load-shifting or load-levelling method which will significantly lower demand charges during the air conditioning season and, consequently, energy costs.It uses a standard packaged chiller to produce solid ice at night during off-peak periods when the buil-ding’s electrical needs are at the minimum.The ice is built and stored in modular ice tanks du-ring the night to provide needed cooling capacity to

meet the building’s air conditioning load requirement the following day.Making ice at night and using its stored energy du-ring the day is not a new or experimental idea.This concept had been employed for years in coo-ling short-peak applications such as cinemas and theatres.Now there is renewed interest in a board use of ice-making systems by both users and utilities as the best way to offset rising operating costs.In fact, Stored Cooling Systems are what summer-peaking utilities must have to avoid the unbeara-ble costs of new generating plants. This allows a remarkable reduction of the management costs, taking advantage of the differentiate tariffs for the electricity consumption, applied by the local Energy Suppliers Body.Furthermore, in the modern air conditioning plan-ts in Hi- Tech. applications, telephone exchanges and special plants, it is always more important and sometimes necessary, to realize backup system al-lowing working continuity in case of lack of energy.The Stored Cooling Systems are able to efficaciou-sly help to solve the problem.ICE.BANK with LEVLOAD system is the new ther-mal storage system for air conditioning plants pro-posed by RC GROUP.The system is easy to install, it is valid either for new or old air conditioning plants.Today, more than 10.000 ICE.BANK LEVLOAD sy-stems are storing 6 million kWh thermal energy in the word.

WHAT IS ICE.BANK LEVLOAD?

The ICE.BANK is a modular, insulated polyethyle-ne tank containing a spiral-wound plastic tube heat exchanger surrounded with water.The ice is built uniformly throughout the tank by the patent temperature averaging effect of closely spaced

Water does not become surrounded by ice during the freezing process and can move freely as ice forms, preventing stress or damage to the tank.Since now, direct expansion ice storage systems have been employed, where ice is frozen directly on metal refrigerant tubes and immersed in a water tank. This system is named “ice builder”.The water in the tank surrounding the ice is then pum-ped to the cooling load.The drawing compares the ICE.BANK method of bur-noff (ice melting) with the old-style ice builder.Notice that the ice builder melts from the outside-in while the ICE.BANK melts from the inside-out.During the next charging cycle, the ICE.BANK will be able to refreeze quickly while the ice builder must overcome the insulating effect of the ice remaining on its coils.Unlike the ICE.BANK, the ice builder requires ice thick-ness controls to prevent total freeze-up which would completely shut down the system.The ice builder is also subject to uneven burn-off
