International presence will be reinforced with the opening of three new embassies: Guyana (in 2015), Ethiopia and Iran (in 2016).

Visits to our country by high-level authorities. Included among these are the Prime Minister of Italy, Mateo Renzi; the Prime Minister of China, Li Keqiang; and Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki Moon. In the encounters, various cooperation agreements were signed.

Consular

After bilateral negotiations, the tourist visa requirement for travel to Canada was eliminated.The website, ‘Chile va Contigo’ (Chile goes with you) was launched, with useful information for travelers.The implementation of the “Apostille Convention” began.The bill that regulates the vote of Chileans abroad was signed.

During 2015, Chile hosted major international events,among them:

High-level-event “Women in Power and Decision-Making: Building a Different World." An Action Plan aimed at achieving gender equality was agreed upon.

“Our Ocean” Conference. More than 500 political and scientific authorities made commitments to the protection and conservation of the ocean.

International -Seminar “Thinking Latin America: Convergence in Diversity,” where a cycle of conversations of debate on the region began.

Participatory dialogues collected the concerns and suggestions of more than 2,200 Chileans abroad.

Cuba Europe and the U.S. Peace in Colombia

During 2015, Chile continued to accompany the peace process in Colombia, which in recent months has shown encouraging progress. The Chilean Group of Friends for Peace in Colombia was also created.

MILESTONES

Physical IntegrationIn December, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay signed an agreement expressing their will to advance in physical infrastructure, through bi-oceanic corridors.

Convergence in DiversityA Chilean initiative that promotes rapprochement between the Pacific Alliance and Mercosur.

In the context of the normalization of relations between Cuba and the U.S., Chile has worked to strengthen its ties with the Caribbean nation. In 2015, Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz led a high-level visit to the island.

The process of modernization of the Association Agreement with the European Union began. With the U.S., links were strengthened through programs with the states of California, Massachusetts and Washington.

COP21

Chile actively participated in the high-level discussions at the Climate Summit in Paris. The importance of the protection of marine biodiversity was one of the key issues promoted by our country at the event.

Multilateral Work

Years Chile has been a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, promoting an agenda focused on inclusive development and equity to stem conflicts and consolidate peace processes.

Countries supported Chile’s entry as a member of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) at the UN General Assembly.

Peace Operationswhich will continue this year: MINUSTAH in Haiti and EUFOR ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, President Bachelet announced her decision to contribute to peace in Africa this year.

Projects were conducted in 32 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Civil servants will be trained by the Chile-Japan Kizuna Project on disaster prevention for a period of 5 years.

Nelson Mandela scholarships

Were awarded to young African professionals to pursue graduate degrees at Chilean universities.

Since 2015, Chile has had its first policy for international cooperation for development.

64.1% Of the world population and 86.3% of the global GDP represent the markets with which our country has trade agreements.

EconomicRelations

Trade agreements were completed. The most recent one to come into force in 2015 was the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Thailand.

Countries signed the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Among its benefits, it will allow the entry of Chilean products into new markets. The agreement will be submitted for consideration by the National Congress in 2016.

World Trade Organization Conference took place in Kenya, where agricultural export subsidies were eliminated.

Anniversary of Chile's accession to the OECD. The Secretary General of the organization, Ángel GurrÍa, visited our country to commemorate this date. On the occasion, the OECD Economic Survey of Chile 2015 was launched.

Business meetings were held in the framework of Chile Day. During the day, there was a “bombardment” of Chilean and Italian poems in Piazza del Duomo, which was crowned with a presentation at the Open Air Theatre by Inti Illimani Histórico.

Product units were sold in the award-winning national pavilion, designed by architect Cristián Undurraga. The motto was "The Love of Chile” (‘El Amor de Chile’).

Different types of products were shown, highlighting the promotion of SMEs and family farming.

SME export centers were opened, serving more than 1,911 SMEs and where seminars and market research missions in all regions are conducted.

Activities were conducted through Sectoral Plans, with the participation of 355 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The SME route to the Paraguayan market summoned 28 companies. Meanwhile, en route to Uruguay, another 20 companies participated.

Of products entered the European market for the first time.
