1. The primary occupation of children is to play and explore. It is where they learn to be street smart. 2. Foster a competitive spirit in your children but also teach them sportsmanship, camaraderie and compassion. Teach them good manners and right conduct in and out of your house.3. Social skills also play a very important role in child development so even if your kid garners all of the awards and medals but doesn't know how to relate well to people, it is all for naught.4. Not only should you, as parents, teach academic skills, but also, teach them to be independent. Employ logical consequences for your kids' actions and do not go to their rescue every time they scratch their knees and cry.5. Let them follow their dreams. Remember, your dreams are not theirs so don't go putting pressure on them because you want them to be somebody you would have wanted to be.
