IT’S SAM-BA * V. CHA-CHA* CHARLIE in the Pioneer Centre Danceoff!

Sam shows off his moves.

Charllie hits the floor.

Ellie, Josh and Tom join the party. By Josh and Ellie

ife at the Pioneer Centre is not just about abseiling, raft building, working together and

eating six bars of Galaxy chocolate in a midnight feast. It’s also about hitting the dance floor and judging the dance moves of Charming Charlie and Sensational Sam. The two went head to head during the fun disco evening, clearing the floor with their sensational moves. Children’s Choice decided to recreate the moment, with a little help from Ellie, Josh and Tom. We hope you agree they could soon be on Strictly Come Dancing!

*The Samba is a Brazilian dance. *The Cha Cha is a fast dance from Latin America.

GETTING SPORTY FOR SPORTS RELIEF! By Lily B, Alex W and Maddy B

t was a brilliant day for crazy posing when all the children (and teachers) dressed up for Sports Relief. Green wigs, a scary skeleton , tutus (you looked

lovely, Mr Whitbread) and cool cats were all spotted around school in a fun packed event. Plenty of sports tops were also on display, it was like the secret life of teachers come to life (said Lily, who was dressed as Cat Whitehill, a famous US soccer player). Maddy enjoyed dressing up as a P.E. teacher from the high school because it’s her dream to be a teacher. Alex was dressed as an English women’s footballer. The Sports Relief activities included a week of baking with guest appearances from Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood (otherwise known as Dylan and Yasmine from Year 6 wearing masks). Here’s some pictures for our cyberspace school album.

AMOUNT RAISED BY LUDLOW JUNIORS FOR SPORTS RELIEF WAS AN IMPRESSIVE £270. BIG THANK YOU TO MISS PRYCE AND HER SUPPORT TEAM FOR ORGANISING EVERYTHING!

udlow Junior School formed a guard of honour for Shrewsbury Town F.C. as they enjoyed a special day out at the Greenhous Meadow Stadium.

The youngsters won their VIP trip after beating teams from across south Shropshire in a soccer tournament organised by the club’s Community programme. Waving celebratory flags the students, freshly kitted out in their new football strips, lined up to greet the players after enjoying a tour of the stadium. One of the highlights was taking in a tour of the home changing rooms minutes before the first team arrived to pull on their shirts for their Division One game with Wigan. Backroom staff also took time out to show the children the club’s gymnasium and answer all their questions. Apart from enjoying the game the children were also able to show off their skills at half time, playing tag and catch on the pitch in front of a 7,000 strong crowd. “It was a great day out and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves,” said teacher in charge, Miss Pryce. “I’d like to say a big thank you to Shrewsbury Town for looking after us so well and giving the children a real insight into what makes a football league club tick.”

CELEBRATING THE GREAT BARD’S

BIRTHDAY

Malcolm in Year 6 enjoys reading Shakespeare’s plays.

William Shakespeare is 400 years

old this year – well, you know what

we mean, the world-famous

playwright died in 1616 and

Children’s Choice asked one of his

many fans, MALCOLM in YEAR

6, why he loves the work of the most

famous writer who has ever lived!

I love Shakespeare and my favourite

play is Macbeth (known as the

Scottish play). There are witches in

it as well as ghosts and there is a lot

of death at the end.

For this article I have collected my

favourite quotes from Shakespeare,

who was born and died on the same

date, April the 23rd.

A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse (that’s King Richard the Third saying he will give his kingdom for a horse).

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? (from Romeo and Juliet)

All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players ; they have their exits and their entrances and one man in his time plays many parts. (One of my favourites, from As You Like It)

To be, or not to be, that is the question. (Hamlet) If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh?

If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? (The Merchant of Venice)

When sorrows come they come not single spies but in battalions. (Hamlet)

What’s done is done. (Macbeth)

Can one desire too much of a good thing? (As You Like It)

I have read The Tempest and would

like to see a production of Macbeth.

Some of the plays contain tragedy

and some romance (I’ve seen the film

of Romeo and Juliet). I also love the

poems of Robbie Burns, who wrote

To a Mouse (“wee tim’rous

beastie”).

CHILDREN’S CHOICE.

ISSUE NO.4 www.ludlowjuniorschool.co.uk CLICK ON NEWS FOR ALL COPIES. JUNE, 2016.

Children’s Choice Royal reporter, Katie B, has been researching some fascinating facts about the Queen’s life.

The Queen was born in London on April the 21st, 1926, and the whole of the UK is now celebrating her 90th

birthday with her.

The Queen, who ascended to the throne at the age of 25 after the death of her father King George V1, is

our longest serving monarch (64 years, beating the record set by her great- great -grandmother Queen Victoria).

Married to Prince Philip (at Westminster Abbey in 1947) the Queen now has 4 children, eight

grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

The Queen has TWO birthdays, her actual birthday and her official birthday in June.

Queen Elizabeth was educated at home with her sister, Margaret. The Queen is known as Lilibet by close family and her husband has been known to call her Cabbage and

Sausage!

At her Royal home in Sandringham the Queen keeps racing pigeons.

A lover of dogs, the Queen has owned more than 30 Corgis during her reign. She also loves horses.

The Queen’s collection of art, furniture, jewellery and horses is worth around £70m.

Joining in the celebrations to mark the end of World War 11 the Queen wrote in her diary: “Ate, partied, bed

3am!”

The Queen is patron of more than 600 charities.

The Queen has duties to perform every day.
