From Our Pastor

Twenty-Eight percent. According to a recent Pew Research Poll that is the percentage of Catholics who either

believe or know that the Eucharist is the real presence of Jesus. That means that Seventy-Two percent of Catho-

lics either don’t think about what the Eucharist is, or they believe that it is just a nice symbol. I read about this

poll while I was on vacation, and I was deeply saddened by it.

The Second Vatican Council tells us that the Eucharist is the “Source and Summit” of the Christian faith. Every-

thing that we are flows from it, and all that we hope to be is rooted in it. To misunderstand, or not to know, what

the Eucharist is, is a tremendous tragedy. In the gospel from last Sunday, we heard Jesus speak these words:

“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person en-

trusted with more”. When we realize what the Eucharist truly is, when we realize that in the bread and wine Je-

sus is really, truly, and substantially present, we can begin to understand exactly what we have been entrusted

with. We can also begin to understand, after receiving such a priceless gift, how much is expected of us.

In the book of Genesis, we hear the story of the creation of the world. How does God create? He creates through

His word. “God said, ‘let there be light’, and there was light”. What God says is. Jesus is the Word of God. He is

the Word through whom the Father created everything. What Jesus says happens. When Jesus says, “Lazarus,

come out”, Lazarus comes out. When Jesus says, “your sins are forgiven”, they are forgiven. When Jesus says,

“little girl arise”, she gets up. When Jesus says, “This is my Body”, it is! This is what we have been entrusted

with, the very presence of God.

Let us try to live up to the great responsibility that we have been entrusted with. Let us approach the Eucharist

with a sense of awe and humility. Let us invite others to come and experience the great gift of God’s life that is

made available to us in the Eucharist. In the Eucharist we have been entrusted with the very life of God, we have

been entrusted with love itself; it is now our great responsibility to try and give that love away.

God Bless,

Fr. Jack

THIS WEEKEND WE WELCOME FATHER LAWRENCE EDWARD TUCKER From the Society of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity (SOLT). Father Tucker will give a mission appeal at our parish masses. Serving in twelve countries including the United States, SOLT Missionaries bring hope and the love of Jesus and Mary to people living in impoverished conditions. They serve migrant farm workers, refugees, Native Americans, orphans, the elderly, families and those undergoing drug rehabilitation. SOLT missionaries serve in parishes and schools giving the sacraments and teaching catechism in remote areas. They also care for the needs of the poor through community and family development projects such as clean water, food and medical care. Your generosity makes it possible for these missionaries to bring Christ to the poor. Next Weekend, Father Tucker will be giving a mission appeal at Saint Mary Parish, Plymouth.

YOUTH MINISTRY

P3 Pizza People & Prayer every Monday Night @ 6PM Every Monday night we gather as a community for Pizza, People and Prayer. A chance to pray with and for one an-other, while deepening our relationship with Jesus Christ and one another. A typical Monday night is about teens

gathering together, in prayer and talking about their week. The setting is informal and relaxed. Following prayer, there

is plenty of time to socialize, make new friends and of course EAT PIZZA.

Next meeting is Wednesday, September 4, Dinner at 7 pm, Meeting at 8 pm . All Knights are welcome!

24 WEEK BIBLE STUDY TUESDAYS 6:30-8:00 PM $40 per person OUR LADY’S HALL, ST. JOSEPH PARISH

Reading the Bible should bring us closer to Christ, but un-derstanding it is often difficult. The Bible Timeline study program will take us on a guided journey through salvation history. Presenter Jeff Cav-ins will show us how fourteen of the Bible’s narrative books tell the biblical story from beginning to end and give us the keys to understanding the amazing story woven throughout Scripture. In this revolutionary approach to Bible study, The Bible Timeline divides the Bible into twelve color-coded time periods that make it easier to follow its narrative thread. Using a unique color-coded chart, we will learn the major people, places, and events of the Bible and dis-cover how they all come together to reveal the remark-able story of our faith. Through its 24 sessions, The Bible Timeline will teach us how to read and understand the Bible and introduce us to the wonderful narrative of the Bible in a way that will transform our lives. To Register please visit our website: stsmaryjoseph.org/bible-study OR Call your Parish Office: St. Joseph: 781-585-6679; St. Mary: 508-746-0426 TRANSFORMED IN LOVE MARRIAGE PREP Transformed in Love for engaged couples is the Archdiocesan program for marriage preparation. WE HAVE ALL EXPERIENCED TIMES in our lives when we would benefit from some extra care, love, support…Stephen

Ministry is designed to create a Team of Lay Ministers that are trained to offer just that – Christian support – during difficult times in the lives of our commu-nity members. Are you called to be a Stephen Minister? Stephen Ministers are laypeople—

Christian men and women—trained to provide one-to-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment. Stephen Ministers come from all walks of life. Their common-ality? A passion for bringing Christ’s love and care to people during a time of need. If this sounds like a ministry you would like to participate in…please call your Parish Office – 508-746-0426 or 781-585-6679, as there will be a training offered at Holy Family in Duxbury on Saturday, September 7th, and we would love to train a Collaborative Team to bring this wonderful ministry to our community. We do need a TEAM of people for this to succeed.

Collaborative Corner So, what’s been going on with the Collaborative?,,It’s sum-mertime – so we have not had many Plan Writing Meetings. We will be meeting to develop our Collaborative Mission Statement on Thursday, August 22nd. This will give us the direction we need to continue developing our Pastoral Plan. The results from the surveys will serve as inspiration for both the writing of our Mission Statement, as well as defin-ing the focus areas we will concentrate on for the first 5-Year Plan. We are thankful for all the input received! Our Collaborative Website is up and running – please visit it
