INT. MESS HALL - WISCONSIN - MORNING

An old wood mess hall surrounded by woods bustles with people saying tearful goodbyes and hugging each other in matching t-shirts that read: “WRITE POWER RETREAT.” Nobody is showered.

GEORGIA (24) stands in a long line. Her pale blond hair in a nest-like bun, the retreat shirt is tied up at her waist.

At the front of the line, a SILVER-HAIRED WOMAN (60s) in a tie-dye skirt hands phones back from a basket.

SILVER-HAIRED WOMANYour time at the retreat has come to an end. Children of the pen, you may return to the technological ether.

Georgia rolls her eyes.

AUSTIN (25) struts up next to Georgia in a frayed denim jacket and beanie. Georgia doesn’t notice.

Georgia looks up at him. He winks.

GEORGIANo thank you.

AUSTINMorning, beautiful.

Austin pulls a small moleskin out of his pocket. The front reads Austin’s Musings in bad cursive.

He holds the notebook in front of Georgia and flips through pages covered in handwritten notes.

AUSTIN (CONT’D)Was last night as good for you as it was for me?

The line moves a step forward. Georgia over-dramatically strokes her chin like she’s pondering.

GEORGIAI don’t know what you’re talking about.

AUSTINOur little research experiment?

He puts his hand on her arm. She smacks it away.

Page 3: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

SILVER-HAIRED WOMANGeorgia! This is a peaceful space.

Georgia rolls her eyes and marches to the front of the line. The other retreat-goers stare.

SILVER-HAIRED WOMAN (CONT’D)You cannot just-

GEORGIARelax.

Georgia grabs her phone, storms back to Austin, and rips his notebook out of his hand without missing a beat. She heads for the door.

EXT. DINING HALL/PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS

A pile of luggage sits against the mess hall. She grabs a hot pink duffel bag and continues her march toward a WHITE JEEP. Austin follows.

AUSTIN This whole “creative un-blocking” thing was your idea anyway!

(laughing)I mean you seemed pretty inspired.

Georgia throws her duffel bag in the back and slams the door. She climbs into the front seat.

She starts flipping through Austin’s notebook. It’s cover to cover with notes and ideas. Her face grows red.

She pulls out her own notebook and opens it. Only a few pages of notes, most of which are crossed out or scribbled over.

Austin walks up and presses his hands to the window.

AUSTIN (CONT’D)Would you just give me back my notebook? Please.

Georgia points to her ear like she can’t hear him.

AUSTIN (CONT’D)Don’t punish me just ‘cause you can’t find anything to write about.

Georgia rolls down the window a crack and picks up Austin’s notebook. When he reaches his fingers through to grab it, she tears out a handful of pages.

She rolls the window back up. Austin’s face drops.

Georgia backs out and heads toward the road.

She sees Austin waving his arms through the rearview mirror.

Austin drops his arms.

AUSTIN (CONT’D)You glorious bitch.

The car drives further down the road. It’s almost out of sight when the notebook goes flying out the window.

TITLE SCREEN: CHILDISH

INT. GEORGIA’S CAR - DAY

She’s heading toward the Chicago skyline.

Georgia shifts through her eyes between her phone and the road as she scrolls through her phone.

GEORGIAMmm...

Her eyes light up. “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys starts playing.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)(singing along, soulful)

She’s just a girl and she’s on fire.

INT. APARTMENT - DAY

Georgia walks into a large, old wood apartment. It’s nicer than any 24 year old’s apartment should be. Big windows, Anthropologie decor.

Georgia throws her bag down and paces through the living room. A photo of her and a tall, dark-haired man hangs on the wall. It’s definitely not Austin.

Georgia walks up to the photo.

Georgia pulls her phone out of her pocket.

GEORGIAHey Siri, send text to “Main Hoes, Eggplant Emoji, Heart Emoji”.

INT. HIPSTER BAR - NIGHT

A newly clean Georgia sits at a table with NIKO and MIA (early 20s). There are too many piercings and pastel hair colors between them to count.

Georgia takes a swig from a craft beer bottle.

NIKOYou literally don’t have anything to feel bad about.

GEORGIAI mean, it was research right?

MIATotally.

NIKOSexual liberty is a key part of being a creative. All novelists are polygamists. Honestly, if Elliot gets upset, it’s his fault for not knowing that.

The bells on the door jingle. CELIA (24) runs up to the table, her long braids bouncing against her back.

CELIAHi, hi. Sorry, fell asleep on the GRE practice book.

She gives Georgia a kiss on the cheek and sits down.

NIKOOh, are you getting your masters, Celia? You hadn’t mentioned.

Mia stifles a laugh.

Celia rolls her eyes.

CELIAWhat did I miss? Retreat recap.

GEORGIAUh, key points. Useless writing exercises, useless meditation, song circles that made me more suicidal than inspired-

NIKOBoooo just give her the interesting part.

4.

Page 6: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Celia raises an eyebrow.

GEORGIAI did that thing we heard about on the Artists-on-Artists podcasts.

CELIAYou started a dirt cleanse?

GEORGIANo, the thing about sleeping with someone other than your significant other. It’s supposed to be like crack for creative energy.

CELIAYou’re kidding. And you tried it?

GEORGIAI’m in crisis, Celia. It’s just irritating cause it didn’t even work. I had to unsubscribe when I got home.

CELIAThat’s kind of terrible.

GEORGIAI know! They have the nerve to call themselves self help? I told my dad I’d have a first draft of a novel for his agent by the time he comes back from his book tour and I have literally nothing. Nada.

CELIAIs that the worst part, though?

Georgia ignores Celia.

MIACan’t your dad get legit anything you write published?

GEORGIANot if it’s just a bunch of blank pages, Mia.

NIKODo you want to do a ton of ayahuasca next weekend? It always helps me when I’m stuck. Or my parents buy some of my pieces to boost my confidence.

5.

Page 7: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAThat’s painting. You could snort glitter glue and sneeze on a canvas and sell it to a gallery.

Niko looks offended for a moment, then pulls out a mini-moleskin to scribble down the idea.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)It’s different with words. They all have to mean something.

MIAThat’s so annoying.

CELIAJust to revisit this, you aren’t going to tell Elliot about your whole little research thing?

NIKOOf course she’s not, he’s addicted to being sensible. He wears ties. Not even skinny ones.

Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it.

GEORGIAI mean he’d never breakup with me but it would really bum out the vibe for no reason.

Georgia’s phone buzzes on the table. She flips it over.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Speak of the devil.

Georgia grabs her bag and gets up.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)He’s back from work.

NIKOYou’re still coming to that bougie little art show tomorrow, right? We’re hitting a kombucha bar first.

GEORGIAOf course.

She blows them a kiss and heads for the door.

6.

INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

Georgia opens the door to her apartment. She looks around in awe at her living room, now decorated with glowing candles and several welcome home balloons tied to a chair.

ELLIOT (25), the epitome of ‘adorkable’ with his curly hair and glasses, stands proudly next to a table covered in Chinese takeout and a bottle of wine.

ELLIOTTada!

GEORGIAElliot!

Elliot walks up to Georgia and gives her a kiss.

He pulls back and holds her face in his hands.

ELLIOTHow dare you.

Georgia’s eyes go wide.

GEORGIAWhat...

ELLIOTWho gave you the right to get even more beautiful after two weeks in the damn Wisconsin woods?

GEORGIAOh! Oh, ahah. Guilty.

Elliot takes a step back.

ELLIOTI mean you’ve just got this... glow! What’s that all about?

GEORGIAAhh, ahah.

She awkwardly pretends to block his view.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Look away!

Elliot takes Georgia’s hand and leads her to sit at the table. He pours them each a glass of wine.

7.

Page 9: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

ELLIOTMy painter of words. I’m so happy you’re home.

They clink their glasses and take a swig. Georgia throws back almost the entire glass.

Elliot laughs.

ELLIOT (CONT’D)So, tell me everything about the retreat!

(growling)Write Power!

He pauses. He hears it now. Oh.

GEORGIAIt’s really not that interesting. Woods, bunk beds, the works.

ELLIOTNot that interesting? You know you’re talking to an accountant, right. Humor me. Did you hunt for berries at breakfast, get into those primal roots?

GEORGIAUm, in a way.

He waits for her to go on.

A beat.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)I’m just experimenting with unconventional methods right now. It’s hard to explain, writer jargon, you know.

ELLIOTI don’t know! That’s why I’m asking.

GEORGIAThe creative process is complicated. I just don’t want to upset you over nothing! I mean really, nothing.

ELLIOTUpset me?

8.

Page 10: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIANot even upset you! Just, confuse you and make a whole thing.

ELLIOTGotta be honest, if your goal is not to confuse me it’s not really working.

Georgia stares into her lap. Elliot reaches across the table and grabs her hands.

ELLIOT (CONT’D)Hey, look at me.

Georgia looks up.

ELLIOT (CONT’D)When have I ever been mad at you?

GEORGIAYou know, you’re right. God, it’s like I forgot who I’m dating.

Georgia laughs.

ELLIOTI mean what could you have done in two weeks in the middle of nowhere, have an affair?

GEORGIANo! No.

They’re both laughing now.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)I mean that’s the thing, it wasn’t an affair.

ELLIOTWait, what?

GEORGIAI won’t bore you with the details.

Elliot stares blankly.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)I felt a little weird about it at first too, but you have to see it for what it is. One night of creative exploration.

9.

Page 11: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

ELLIOTUh-

GEORGIASee! Unconventional methods. I know you might not get it right away. I’m actually really glad I told you ‘cause to be honest, it didn’t even work so I’m still feeling pretty down on my abilities-

ELLIOTAre you, you’re not- are you saying you slept with someone else?

GEORGIAOkay yes, but it wasn’t cheating, like, it wasn’t sexual.

ELLIOTOh, fantastic! So during the non-sexual sex with another man, you weren’t cheating on me, got it.

GEORGIAVery heteronormative of you to assume it was a man.

ELLIOTIt wasn’t?

GEORGIAYou’re missing the point.

ELLIOTCome on.

GEORGIAI thought you wanted to understand my creative process, Elliot! Niko could probably explain it more-

ELLIOTOh, good! Niko knows. So I assume everyone knows.

GEORGIAI can’t believe you’re being like this. You got me this retreat in the first place and you asked to hear about it!

ELLIOTRight, right. This is my fault.

10.

Page 12: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAThank you.

Elliot throws his hands up.

ELLIOTYou know, tell your parents not to bother venmo-ing me for your half of the month.

GEORGIAYou’re not serious. Hemingway did stuff like this all the time!

ELLIOTAre you really comparing yourself to Ernest Hemingway?

Georgia stands up.

GEORGIAAre you not!?

She grabs a chopstick off the table and snaps it.

ELLIOTWhat are you doing?

Georgia walks over to the balloons and swiftly pops each one.

Elliot looks down at the pile of balloon carcasses, then slowly back up at Georgia.

EXT. APARTMENT - MOMENTS LATER

Georgia pushes a suitcase out the front door with her duffel bag balanced on top. She leans her back against the wall and looks around at the mostly empty Chicago street.

Georgia’s lip quivers. She picks up her phone and dials.

WOMAN’S VOICE (V.O.)Georgia?

Georgia bites her lip.

INT. BOOKSTORE - LOS ANGELES - SAME TIME

Georgia’s mom SUSAN (58), in a flowing miu miu with a sleek bob hides in the corner of a crowded bookstore. A man in a blazer and large scarf stands on a small stage speaking to a crowd in the background.

11.

Page 13: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

SUSAN(whispering)

Honey, what’s going on?

INTERCUT - PHONE CONVERSATION

GEORGIA(sniffling)

Can I stay at home tonight? Elliot, um, it’s, we broke up.

A group of drunk college students walk past Georgia. She hides her face.

Susan turns to face a man standing next to the stage. She waves her arm until he notices her.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Hello?

MARK (60), with thick, dark-rimmed glasses and a greying beard rushes up to Susan.

MARK(whispering)

He’s about to introduce me!

SUSANGeorgia wants to know if she can stay in the condo.

MARKSure, sure! Now c’mon.

Mark runs back to the front.

SUSANHe says it’s okay!

The crowd starts applauding. Mark steps on stage.

SUSAN (CONT’D)(whispering)

I’ll let the doorman know you’re coming. Tell me what happened later, use the credit card, you know, whatever you need.

GEORGIAOkay.

SUSANLove you!

12.

Page 14: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

She hangs up the phone.

Georgia looks down at the blank screen and wipes away a stray tear.

Two VISIBLY DRUNK GIRLS stumble up to Georgia. Georgia continues staring at the screen.

DRUNK GIRLHeeyy, our phones died, could we-

GEORGIAI don’t have a phone.

INT. GEORGIA’S OLD BEDROOM - DAY

Georgia lies under a large, puffy white comforter surrounded by colorful throw pillows.

Georgia’s eyes slowly open. She reaches for her phone. It reads 3:00 PM. She shrugs, indifferent.

INT. KITCHEN - MOMENTS LATER

Wrapped in a fluffy blue robe, Georgia saunters into the kitchen. Everything is pristine marble and completely sterile. Floor to ceiling windows overlook all of Chicago.

Georgia opens the fridge, nothing. She spots the wine fridge under the sink.

INT. HALLWAY - MOMENTS LATER

Georgia walks down the hall with a bottle of rosé in her hand. She slows down, passing a long line of blown-up, framed book-cover posters boasting “New York Times Best-Seller!”.

Something in the Water by Mark Cohen, She’s Funny That Way by Mark Cohen...

She takes a big pull from the bottle.

INT. WAREHOUSE/ART GALLERY - NIGHT

Georgia walks into a large warehouse-turned-art-gallery. She sticks out, underdressed in boyfriend jeans and an oversized blouse, surrounded by a who’s-who of artistic types dressed in bright and shiny patterns.

She glances around the room, scanning the crowd. Suddenly-

13.

Page 15: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAOw!

A RED-HAIRED WOMAN (35) bumps straight into Georgia. She looks like an old movie star in a pink silk dress with her hair clipped back.

A chic posse of two men with matching bleached buzz-cuts and two tall slender women (late-20s) follow just behind her.

RED-HAIRED WOMANOh! I am so sorry! So sorry!

She gives Georgia a once over.

RED-HAIRED WOMAN (CONT’D)Look at you! You need, mm, something.

The woman pulls her pink clip out of her hair and puts it in Georgia’s hair.

RED-HAIRED WOMAN (CONT’D)Here.

GEORGIAUm-

RED-HAIRED WOMANAnd...

She turns to a man in a sequin sweatsuit standing behind her and grabs a martini from his hand. She hands it to Georgia.

RED-HAIRED WOMAN (CONT’D)Here.

Georgia takes it slowly, her mouth hanging open.

RED-HAIRED WOMAN (CONT’D)Fantastic.

The woman and her followers continue past Georgia. Georgia watches her wave like royalty to everyone she passes.

NIKO (O.S.)Georgia!

Georgia’s trance is broken by Niko, Celia, and Mia rushing toward her.

CELIAYou missed ‘bucha dinner!

14.

Page 16: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAOops.

Mia gives her a once over.

MIASo you’re taking it pretty hard, then.

Celia smacks Mia’s arm.

CELIACome on.

They guide Georgia further into the gallery. Georgia peeks over her shoulder, catching a glimpse of the red-haired woman speaking to a growing group of listeners.

The crowd has dwindled down. Georgia, Niko, Celia, and Mia sit around a table on the sidelines. There are empty and half-full glasses scattered about.

NIKOI can’t believe he was so immature.

MIATruly.

GEORGIAWell, my relationship and my writing dreams are dead. Nothing interesting ever happens to me. I couldn’t even give myself alcoholism, remember?

Mia pats Georgia’s arm.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Whatever, can we change the subject?

NIKOOh my god, finally. Please.

CELIANiko!

NIKOAre you not dying to know how Georgia knows Amy Windsor?

GEORGIAWho?

15.

Page 17: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Niko, Celia, and Mia jerk back. Georgia shrugs.

CELIAUh?

She points over Georgia’s shoulder. Georgia follows her finger right to the red-haired woman.

The man whose martini Amy stole is photographing her in front of a diamond bust.

Georgia turns back to her friends.

GEORGIAHow do you know her name.

NIKOWhere the hell have you been?

GEORGIAWisconsin?

NIKOFor your whole life?!

MIAShe is the Paris-freaking-Hilton of Chicago.

GEORGIANo kidding.

CELIAHer fancy oil parents died in Guam or something when she was in college and she got everything.

MIALucky.

GEORGIAOkay... Well I don’t know her know her, she just bumped into me.

NIKO(yelling)

She could hit me with her goddamn car and I would thank her!

Mia plugs her ears.

MIAAh.

16.

Page 18: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAAnd she gave me her hair clip.

Georgia models the clip.

NIKOI’m gonna throw up.

Georgia looks back at Amy.

NIKO (CONT’D)I heard she has a kid with the Dalai Lama.

MIAI heard it was Justin Timberlake!

NIKOOne time she got arrested for stealing random soaps from Bath and Body Works just for shits and giggles. Soaps!

CELIANow Amy Windsor, I bet she has lifetimes worth of shit to write about.

Georgia whips her head back around.

GEORGIAOh my god.

CELIAWha-

GEORGIA.Shh.

She holds up a finger.

A beat.

GEORGIAYou absolute genius. I mean, my dad always all the best fiction comes from real life. Why does it have to be life? Everyone nuts for a party girl novel.

NIKOA muse!

17.

Page 19: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAA goddamn muse!

CELIAYou’re going to walk up and ask the Amy Windsor if you can just co-op her life?

GEORGIAI have barely like 6 weeks to get something worth reading to my dad’s agent. It’s basically either this or I try another drinking problem. Are you saying you want me to have a drinking problem?

CELIA(sighing)

No.

GEORGIAI’m gonna talk to her. Right?

NIKOYou should talk to her.

MIAOhhhh my god. Omigod.

Georgia stands up and slams her hands on the table. Niko stumbles getting up and comes nose to nose with her.

NIKOYou are a hot, talented, liberated unicorn.

Niko picks up a drink off the table and holds the straw to Georgia. She straightens up and walks toward Amy.

CELIADo you really see this going well?

Niko slowly sips through the straw, not breaking his gaze from Georgia.

NIKOLet’s find out.

Amy is huddled with her posse. Everyone is using their phone as a mirror to touch up.

Georgia comes a few feet from the group when SAPPHIRE (30) with hot pink glitter eye shadow notices her and whispers something to the group. Amy looks up.

18.

Page 20: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

SAPPHIRECan we help you...

GEORGIAI actually wanted to talk to Amy.

SAPPHIREShocking!

Amy steps forward.

AMYSapphire, please.

(to Georgia)But, do I know you?

Georgia pulls the clip from her hair.

GEORGIAI wanted to give this back to you.

AMYWhat is that?

GEORGIAYour hair clip..? You gave it to me earlier.

AMYDid I? How funny!

Amy and her posse turn back into each other.

Georgia looks around, confused. She puts the clip in her pocket.

GEORGIAUh.

Amy looks back up and sees Georgia still standing there.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)I also had a question. An offer really.

AMYAn offer? Sorry, who are you?

Georgia pulls her shoulders back and lifts her chin.

GEORGIAI’m Georgia Cohen.

19.

Page 21: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

AMYAnd what does that mean?

Georgia nervously glances at the posse members staring her down.

AMY (CONT’D)Lennox, Sapphire, Tinsley, Elton! Three steps back.

LENNOX, SAPPHIRE, TINSLEY, and ELTON each take three steps back.

GEORGIAI’m a writer. And I’d like to write about you. Well, a story based on you, your stories.

AMYRead Page Six.

GEORGIANo, more.

AMYHoney, I don’t do school newspapers.

Georgia smirks.

GEORGIAIt’s a book. I’ll change your name and whatever else. It’s fiction as far as anyone else is concerned.

AMYHuh... Who’s your agent?

GEORGIAWell it’s not so much my agent-

AMYWhat have you written?

GEORGIAEssays, short stories-

AMYBooks?

GEORGIAWell no, not yet.

20.

Page 22: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

AMYBut your essays are published?

GEORGIAAt school.

AMYSo really nothing?

GEORGIAI- I only graduated in 2018.

AMYAnd since then you... What? Travelled?

GEORGIANo...

AMYGot arrested?

GEORGIANo! I-

AMYWrestled an alligator? Sailed a yacht? Cat-fished a foreign prince?

GEORGIAWhat? No. Have you-

AMYSo you saw me on, what? The cover of some magazine? You haven’t done any living, and now you’d like me to do it for you?

Georgia’s mouth hangs open.

A beat.

Amy walks past Georgia toward the exit. The posse makes mock pouty faces at Georgia as they follow behind.

GEORGIAAlso.

Georgia turns around slowly. Amy opens the door.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)It’s Georgia Cohen, like Mark Cohen.

21.

Page 23: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Amy stops. She turns around slowly.

AMYMark Cohen? The Something in the Water series Mark Cohen?

Georgia nods. She points to herself.

GEORGIADaughter.

AMYHmm.

A beat.

She turns back around and walks out the door.

Georgia turns toward her friends. They’re watching her like a car wreck.

She walks back to the table slowly.

NIKOTragic.

Georgia grabs her purse off the table, turns back around, and walks out the door.

Niko and Mia glance at each other nervously. Celia rolls her eyes.

CELIAI’ll go.

INT. GEORGIA’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Georgia and Celia sit up in Georgia’s bed in oversized pajama sets. Celia takes a hit from a joint and passes it over to Georgia.

CELIAIt’s probably for the best, dude.

Georgia nods as she takes a big hit.

CELIA (CONT’D)Amy Windsor is notoriously wack.

GEORGIAI’d rather be wack than a failure.

22.

Page 24: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

She puts the joint out in a glass of water on the bedside table.

CELIAYou can’t be a failure at 24.

Georgia lies down and curls into a fetal position. Celia faces her.

CELIA (CONT’D)You don’t need all this crazy shit. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself.

GEORGIAThanks.

Georgia smiles and rolls over. She claps twice, the lights shut off.

INT. GEORGIA’S BEDROOM - EARLY MORNING

Georgia’s phone starts ringing obnoxiously loud. She jolts up and answers.

GEORGIAHello?

AMY (O.S.)Where are you?

GEORGIAAmy?

Celia sits and wipes her eyes.

CELIA(mouthing)

What the hell?

EXT. PENTHOUSE BALCONY - SAME TIME

Amy is looking Lakeshore Drive in an extravagant robe with a full face of makeup and her hair full of hot rollers.

GEORGIAHow did you get my number?

23.

Page 25: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

INTERCUT - PHONE CONVERSATION

AMYHow do you think?

GEORGIAI have literally no idea.

AMYWell my driver is picking you up in an hour.

Georgia checks the time on her phone. It’s 8 AM.

AMY (CONT’D)Text me your address.

GEORGIAYou don’t have my address?

AMYHow would I?

Amy hangs up.

Georgia and Celia stare at each other in shock.

CELIASo our little chat last night-

GEORGIANever happened. In case you didn’t notice, Amy Windsor just called me.

Georgia jumps out of bed.

CELIAYou found out who she was yesterday.

GEORGIATime is a flat circle.

Georgia pulls a black tank top out of her closet and holds them out to Celia.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Yes?

Celia rolls her eyes.

CELIAYes.

24.

Page 26: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

INT. BLACK LINCOLN - MORNING

Georgia sits in the backseat wearing the tank top with a denim jacket covered in patches for bands she’s definitely never listened to.

She pulls out her phone and types Amy Windsor into Instagram. She scrolls through photo after photo of Amy at glamorous parties. She pauses on a photo of her and a little red-haired girl with the caption: My mini-me :).

INT. APARTMENT BUILDING LOBBY - MOMENTS LATER

A doorman holds the door for Georgia. She marvels at the extravagant chandelier hanging in the lobby.

Georgia takes it all in.

INT. AMY’S DOORWAY - MOMENTS LATER

Georgia’s about to knock when Amy throws the door open. She’s in full ath-leisure despite her fully styled hair and makeup.

AMYCome!

INT. AMY’S LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Amy’s living room is attached to a gleaming open kitchen. It puts Georgia’s family home to shame. There’s an enormous white couch facing across from a lips-shaped lounge chair.

There’s a tray of scones next to a pitcher of orange juice between them. Amy sits on the lips chair and pours two glasses.

GEORGIAI have to say, I’m so glad you came around. I know I’m young but... I’ve always been told I’m an old soul.

Georgia flips her hair over her shoulder.

AMYUhuh. So, do you have babysitting experience?

25.

Page 27: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAUm, well, high school, sure, but, I definitely don’t want you to feel like I’m babysitting you at all. More like a cool shadow, weekly interviews-

AMYOh no, not for me. For Camille.

GEORGIACamille? Is that your daughter?

Amy nods.

AMYHer usual sitter decided she wanted to spend her summer break volunteering in Botswana, God knows why. And everyone else who’s applied has just been sooo unbearably boring. Girls trying to pay their way through nursing school and what not.

Amy mimes gagging.

AMY (CONT’D)Your little situation is much more intriguing.

GEORGIAYou expect me to babysit your kid? That was not part of the deal.

Amy suddenly becomes very serious.

AMYAnd I don’t think letting a college student just parasite my life for free was any deal I made either?

GEORGIAI’m a graduate. And I’m definitely not a babysitter.

AMYFrom what you told me last night, you’re not much of anything.

A beat. Georgia’s at a loss for words.

26.

Page 28: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

AMY (CONT’D)It’s simple, you watch Camille when I ask you to, and I give you unfiltered access to the shit Page Six would slaughter kittens for. Daddy will be very impressed.

GEORGIAHow did you...

AMYYou tried to get me to do what you want by name-dropping your own father because what, you... don’t have daddy issues?

Amy’s serious demeanor suddenly fades back into laughter.

AMY (CONT’D)There’s no shame!

Amy takes a swig from her glass.

AMY (CONT’D)That’s what my industry is built on. You’ll see, you know, when you come with me to parties, and more importantly, after parties...

Georgia perks up.

GEORGIAHow many parties?

Amy checks her phone.

AMYThat’s something we can work out later! My driver’s coming any minute to take me to pilates and, well, wherever else the day takes me so you’re here today regardless.

Amy holds her glass up to Georgia.

GEORGIAWoah, I’m not sure I’m equipped to start watching your kid, like, right this minute.

AMYWell I can guarantee you that I’m not. Consider it a test run!

27.

Page 29: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Georgia picks up her own glass.

GEORGIAWhat the hell!

Amy pulls her glass back.

AMYLanguage! My child is down the hall.

GEORGIAOh, I-

Amy bursts out laughing.

AMYI’m kidding! Who cares?

Georgia laughs along.

Amy suddenly stops laughing.

AMY (CONT’D)Nothing like that in your little book though. If the hot goss is that it’s based on me and it makes me look bad, I’ll kill you. Understand?

GEORGIAAbsolutely.

Amy burst back into laughter.

AMYGood!

Amy clinks her glass to Georgia’s.

Georgia takes a sip and immediately coughs.

GEORGIAOh! That is a mimosa.

AMYNot enough champagne?

GEORGIAAren’t I about to watch your kid?

AMYPrecisely.

28.

Page 30: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Amy gets up and grabs her bag off the kitchen island.

She reaches in and pulls out a handful of loose twenty-dollar bills.

AMY (CONT’D)This should keep her entertained.

Amy walks to the front door.

GEORGIAWait, but, what do I, like, do?

AMYPut that collegiate imagination to work! Oh, and bed by eight.

(yelling)Camille! Your new sitter’s here!

Amy winks and shuts the door behind her. Georgia looks around, frantic.

A door creaks open down the hall. CAMILLE (8) shuffles down the hall rubbing her eyes. She wears a purple nightgown and puppy-shaped slippers.

She stops when she spots Georgia.

CAMILLEWhat’s your name?

GEORGIAGeorgia.

CAMILLEThat’s not a person name.

Still half-asleep, Camille walks to the kitchen and pushes a pink stepping stool toward a cabinet.

She steps up and opens a cabinet filled with every type of junk cereal you can imagine.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)Get me a bowl.

INT. PLAYROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Camille’s playroom is covered in every kind of toy. One wall has an enormous flat-screen TV. Camille and Georgia sit at a kids-sized table. Georgia’s knees are bent into her chest to fit in the chair.

29.

Page 31: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Camille picks up her cereal bowl and slurps back the remaining milk. She puts it down and wipes off her mouth with her nightgown.

Camille stares blankly at Georgia.

A beat.

CAMILLEI want to get dressed!

Camille gets up and walks out of the room. Georgia looks around.

Camille pops back into the doorway.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)You have to help me!

INT. CAMILLE’S ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Camille’s room is bright yellow. The wall behind her bed has enormous mural of Amy as a mermaid holding a little red-haired baby.

Georgia is struggling to get a t-shirt over Camille’s head.

CAMILLEDon’t look!

Georgia closes her eyes. Camille’s arm twisted in the neck-hole.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)Ow!

Georgia opens her eyes and starts fixing it.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)I said don’t look!

Georgia continues to struggle.

GEORGIAI’m. Trying. To.

CAMILLENOOOOO!

Georgia closes her eyes. Camille starts grabbing at the shirt while Georgia struggles to pull it over her head.

30.

Page 32: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAJust. Let me-

CAMILLE(screaming)

Aaahhh!

INT. PLAYROOM - AFTERNOON

Georgia sits at the little table again, scribbling in a notebook. Camille sits on the floor playing with model trains.

She takes a train in each hand and sends them heading toward each other. They crash. Camille rolls over hysterically laughing.

Georgia watches her like she’s on safari.

Camille gets up and sits across from Georgia.

CAMILLENow what?

GEORGIAWhat do you mean now what? You’re playing.

CAMILLEEveryone’s dead.

She points to the train wreckage behind her.

GEORGIAAh...

Georgia checks her phone. 12:30.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Um, are you hungry again?

Camille nods enthusiastically.

CAMILLEI’m hungry! And I’m bored.

She starts marching around in circles.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)(singing)

I’m hungry and I’m bored. Hungry and I’m bored. Hungry and I’m bored.

31.

Page 33: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

George pulls down at her eye sockets.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)I want to go somewhere fun for lunch! Please, Georgia. Please PLEASE can we go somewhere fun for lunch.

Georgia smiles.

GEORGIAActually, yes.

INT. CAFÉ - AFTERNOON

Georgia and Camille sit in a hipster café with a little stage by the window. It’s a beanies and scarves crowd. On the stage, a MAN WITH A MOHAWK reads poetry with painful affect.

MAN WITH MOHAWKBut who was I? And who were you? Peering through the stained glass window...

His voice drawls on in the background. Georgia watches him. She and the rest of the café nod along like it’s church.

Camille stares dead-eyes at Georgia. A half-eaten grilled cheese sits in front of her.

CAMILLEGeorgia.

GEORGIAShhh.

CAMILLE(whispering)

Georgia!

Georgia pushes the grilled cheese closer to Camille.

GEORGIA(whispering)

You said you wanted to do something fun. Pay attention, this is fun.

CAMILLEThis is crap!

GEORGIACamille!

32.

Page 34: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

The poet stops and looks at Georgia.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)She doesn’t mean it. Kids, you know.

CAMILLEI did mean it!

Camille puts her head down and starts knocking it against the grilled cheese.

A few tables around them look over at Camille.

GEORGIAAhahah... Camille, please. Please stop that.

Camille looks up at her, her face covered in crumbs and cheese. She takes another bite of the sandwich, then holds it out to Georgia.

Georgia takes it and puts it back on the plate.

CAMILLETHIS IS NOT WHAT I WANT TO DO.

GEORGIAThis is what I want to do.

Camille looks dumb-founded.

CAMILLEI want to watch movies.

Camille hops out of her seat and starts walking to the door. Georgia follows.

GEORGIACamille, you cannot walk out alone!

Camille turns around and stomps her foot on the ground.

CAMILLEI’m going!

GEORGIANot. Yet.

Camille’s cheeks suddenly puff up. Her face starts turning red.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)What are you doing?

33.

Page 35: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Her face grows darker red.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)(whispering)

Camille! Stop that!

Camille continues to hold her breath.

Georgia’s hand shake by her side.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Uhhh.

INT. PLAYROOM - NIGHT

Moana blasts from the TV. Camille lays out cold on a bean bag chair in front of the screen.

Georgia’s sitting at the tiny table, asleep with her head on a plate of half-eaten dino nuggets.

A buzz from her phone wakes her up. It’s a text from Niko.

It reads: Baby daddy? JT or Mr. Lama?

Georgia types back: Satan.

Her phone reads. 8:30.

Georgia glares over at Camille’s tiny body curled up on the bean bag.

Georgia pushes herself up from the little chair.

GEORGIAAahhh.

She pouts as she wildly shakes out her stiff limbs.

Georgia walks over to Camille and pokes her.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Camille.

She nudges her arm.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Come on.

Nothing.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Seriously.

34.

Page 36: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Georgia nudges her arm harder.

Camille rolls off the bean bag and onto the floor with an echoing thud.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Shit.

Camille doesn’t get up. Georgia stares at her. Still nothing.

A beat.

Georgia reaches into her pocket and pulls her phone out. She holds the screen under Camille’s nose. It fogs up.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Thank god.

INT. CAMILLE’S ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Georgia carries Camille over to her bed.

With one hand, she sloppily pulls the covers down and puts Camille in the bed.

Georgia stares at her hands with disgust, then at Camille.

GEORGIAHow are you sticky?

Georgia wipes her hands on her jeans and walks out.

INT. AMY’S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Georgia sits on the couch, her phone to her ear.

INT. HOTEL ROOM - SAME TIME

Mark is sitting up in the hotel bed typing on a laptop. The shower runs in the background.

MARKHi Georgie, sorry I couldn’t talk last night. Do you need me to put out a hit on Elliot?

He sticks the phone between his ear and shoulder to keep typing while talking.

Georgia laughs. She gets up and starts pacing the living room.

35.

Page 37: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIANot right now.

Mark stays focused on his laptop.

MARKWell, you know, stay in the condo as long as you need and...

He puts his face closer to the computer.

MARK (CONT’D)Wait no, that’s not right...

GEORGIAWhat’s not right?

MARKSwear to God, how does someone become an editor without basic understanding of the oxford comma...

Georgia’s shoulders drop.

MARK (CONT’D)Anyway, all this free time you’re about to have, I mean silver lining, high time to polish up that draft. Stacy is pretty excited about it, people really eat up a prodigy story.

GEORGIAYou think I’m a prodigy?

MARKDepends, are you giving me something interesting?

Mark pounds down on his keyboard with each word.

MARK (CONT’D)Goddamit. Comma, comma, comma.

GEORGIAWell, I started working on something. Shadowing this starlet, socialite woman.

MARKOoh...

36.

Page 38: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAI actually thought it could be pretty good.

MARKIt better be.

The bathroom door opens. Susan walks out in an enormous hotel robe and wraps her hair in a towel. Mark points to the phone.

MARK (CONT’D)(mouthing)

Georgia.

GEORGIABut she expects me to watch her kid in exchange.

MARKWell that sounds great, honey! Tit for tat.

GEORGIANo I don’t mean it like-

Susan sits on the edge of the bed by Mark.

SUSANWhat’s going on?

MARKGeorgia got a job.

SUSANOn purpose?

Georgia face-palms.

MARKIt’s for the draft for Stacy. She’s writing about, uh-

GEORGIAAmy Windsor.

SUSANOH MY GOD!

Georgia flinches.

SUSAN (CONT’D)Is she as gorgeous in person?

37.

Page 39: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAWell hang on, I don’t think I’m gonna-

MARKI’m proud of you, Georgie. Now I really am looking forward to reading what you got when we’re back.

Georgia covers the microphone with her hand.

A beat.

GEORGIA(whining)

Georgia stomps her foot on the ground.

She takes a deep breath and uncovers the mic.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Great!

SUSANAnd you know Georgia, I just feel so bad about Elliot. You know what, I’m going to mail you just the cutest little Marc Jacobs purse I saw the other day. You’ll love it.

GEORGIAThanks, mom.

The front door handle starts to jiggle.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)I gotta go.

Georgia walks up to the door and pulls it open.

AMYWoah.

Amy stumbles in in a completely different outfit from morning. Sequin mini dress and heels.

Georgia gives her a once over, confused.

GEORGIAWhen did you...

AMYShh.... Shh... Don’t yell.

38.

Page 40: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Amy kicks off her heels and walks into the kitchen.

She yanks open a cabinet loaded with different pill bottles. She pushes aside Tylenols and Advils to reveal Prozac, Xanax, Ambien...

AMY (CONT’D)Don’t worry, Camille can’t reach it.

Georgia looks down at the little pink stepping stool.

AMY (CONT’D)So, will I see you again?

GEORGIAI guess you will.

Amy pulls out a little orange bottle and throws back a pill. She hands one out to Georgia.

AMYXanny?

A beat.

GEORGIAYeah.

Georgia throws the pill back.

AMYWonderful.

Amy walks over to the couch and lays down.

GEORGIAIs the driver taking me home, or...

Amy’s knocked out.

EXT. AMY’S APARTMENT BUILDING - MOMENTS LATER

Georgia stands outside and looks around.

She opens the Uber app and stares at the screen.

A beat.

She puts her phone in her pocket and starts walking down the sidewalk.

39.

Page 41: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

EXT. ELLIOT’S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Georgia stands in front of her old apartment building looking up. In the window, she can just see Elliot sitting alone at the table holding a book.

Georgia picks up her phone and dials. She watches Elliot.

Elliot suddenly drops the book and jumps up. He stares at his phone.

A beat.

He scratches his head.

Georgia holds her breath as Elliot taps the screen.

ELLIOT (V.O.)You’ve got Elliot, leave a message at the beep and have a great day.

The light in the window shuts off. Elliot’s silhouette moves out of view.

A beat.

GEORGIAUgh. I don’t care.

It doesn’t even sound like she convinced herself.

INT. GEORGIA’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Georgia sits up in bed with her laptop. She stares at a blank Word document.

Georgia opens up recent files. They’re all titled Draft 1. Draft 1.1. Draft 1.2...

Georgia clicks through each one. No more than two sentences on each before knfnwfwnflwnfjnhrowf.

INT. GEORGIA’S BEDROOM - MORNING

Georgia wakes up with her laptop open next to her.

She unlocks the computer. The Word document is still blank.

Georgia shuts the laptop.

40.

INT. AMY’S LIVING ROOM - DAY

Amy and Georgia sit across from each other. Amy wears a bright yellow sun-dress and types furiously on her phone.

Georgia’s notebook is in her lap. Her glass sits full on the table.

Camille colors on the floor between them.

GEORGIASo maybe we could start with-

Amy holds up a finger.

AMYGod people can be so incompetent.

GEORGIAWhat’s going on?

AMYI’m supposed to get my hair blown out before this event and the woman just cancelled me because of a “car accident.” Has she never heard of Triple A? Or Uber?

GEORGIASo incompetent.

AMY She owns her own business. I’m gonna tweet out a shit review, see how she holds up in this economy.

GEORGIAMm...

CAMILLEMommy, are you playing with us today?

AMYNo little flower, Mommy has other things to do. But if Georgia tells me you were good we can find you a new dollhouse. Or an X-box. Or something.

Camille goes back to coloring.

GEORGIASo-

41.

Page 43: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

AMYGeorgia I’ll need you to do a bit of the cleaning instead.

GEORGIACleaning now?

AMYJust today. After Camille goes to sleep, you know wipe things, make my bed.

The front door swings open, banging into the wall.

Sapphire, Tinsley, Elton, and Lennox strut in. They’re all wearing some variation of an all-blue ensemble. Sapphire steps forward.

SAPPHIREGood morning, Amy!

She looks over at Camille and Georgia.

SAPPHIRE (CONT’D)Hello, child.

(to Georgia)You.

Georgia finger waves.

GEORGIATinsley?

SAPPHIREPlease. Sapphire.

The woman who isn’t Sapphire steps forward. Her hair is tied up in an over-the-top blue hair ribbon.

TINSLEYTinsley.

The two men with matching bleached hair step forward.LENNOX

Lennox.ELTON

Elton.

GEORGIAExcellent.

Amy gets up and smooths out her dress.

TINSLEYI thought we were doing a blue thing?

42.

Page 44: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

AMYYou’re doing a blue thing.

Amy gives Camille a peck on the head.

AMY (CONT’D)We have a brunch philanthropy of sorts for the symphony.

ELTONThe Southside.

AMYExactly.

CAMILLEWait! Look.

Camille holds the paper she had been drawing on up to Amy.

AMYLater, Camille.

Camille pouts.

AMY (CONT’D)I know mommy’s been gone a lot. You know what, I’ll just get you the X-box anyway. How’s that?

Camille drops the drawing.

CAMILLEOkay.

Amy walks over to her posse.

AMYWorry not, Georgia. We’ll chat tonight or something. I won’t be out late.

Georgia forces her best smile and gives a thumbs up.

Amy and her group walk out.

Camille turns to Georgia.

CAMILLEI want candy for breakfast.

GEORGIAYou already had breakfast.

43.

Page 45: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

CAMILLEThen give me candy as a second breakfast! Now!

A beat.

GEORGIAWhatever.

Georgia walks over to the kitchen and starts searching through cabinets. She finds a bag of Halloween candy stuffed in the back a cabinet.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Ok, here.

CAMILLENo, blue candy!

GEORGIAThere’s like a thousand different blue candies in here. Just pick out what you want.

CAMILLEYou do it. Do it!

GEORGIAThat is ridiculous.

Camille picks a crayon up off the floor and throws it at Georgia. It bounces off her stomach.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Christ!

CAMILLEDo it or I’ll ask mommy to fire you!

GEORGIAMaybe I want to quit!

CAMILLEGood!

GEORGIAYou’re gonna be real scared all alone if I leave. You’ll see.

Camille crosses her arms.

Georgia storms out the front door and shuts it behind her.

INT. HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Georgia leans against the wall and listens to the door expectantly.

GEORGIAWant me to come back yet?

Silence.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)All you have to do is say you’ll listen.

Georgia hears a click. Camille laughs.

Georgia tries the door knob.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Oh shit.

CAMILLE (O.S.)You said a bad word!

Georgia hears another door open inside and Camille stomping around.

GEORGIACamille, open the door!

CAMILLE (O.S.)No!

Georgia half-heartedly bumps her shoulder into the door.

GEORGIAAgh.

Georgia pounds the door.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Camille! Now!

GEORGIAUuugghhh.

Georgia grabs the wine glass from her.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)Sit down. I’ll get you blue candy.

She follows a trail of clothes across the living room to another hallway.

Georgia walks up to the open door to Amy’s bedroom.

INT. AMY’S BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS

Georgia drops the clothes and looks around. She walks up to a dresser with rows of framed photos on top.

There are photos of Amy with her posse. Photos of Amy on red carpets. Photos of Amy with various celebrities.

No photos of Amy with Camille.

Georgia goes back and picks the clothes up.

Georgia opens the door to Amy’s ridiculously large walk-in closet. It’s a disaster.

46.

Page 48: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIADamn it, Camille.

Georgia starts putting things back on hangers, doing her best to get their location right.

The closet is clean.

Georgia walks over to an entire wall of shoes.

She notices a pink leather-bound notebook under a pair of sneakers.

She checks behind her. All clear.

Georgia picks up the book. The cover is engraved with gold lettering, Property of Amy Windsor.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)No way.

Georgia cracks the book open. September 3rd, 2018.

AMY (V.O.)God I could just murder Sapphire sometimes.

Georgia’s jaw drops.

CAMILLECan I color in your book?

GEORGIAYou have your own paper.

GEORGIAHow about if you leave me alone for a while I’ll have your mom buy you lots of your own notebooks?

CAMILLEFine.

Camille goes back to her coloring.

Georgia tip-toes out of Camille’s room and shuts the door behind her.

INT. LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Georgia sits on the couch and pulls out her notebook. She opens it to a page listing questions for Amy.

What’s it like living in the public eye? Is there anything about you most people don’t know? Top 10 craziest things you’ve ever done?

Georgia folds her hands in her lap and looks at the door.

Nothing.

Georgia gets up and paces around the living room.

GEORGIA Sup.

Amy picks Georgia’s open notebook off the table.

AMYYeah, we’re gonna have to do that another time.

Amy hands the book to Georgia.

NIKOSurvivor of two weeks with Amy Windsor and her devil spawn.

They clink glasses.

NIKO (CONT’D)So what can you tell us? Tell me those bags under your eyes are from all night partying with the elite.

GEORGIAThe closest I’ve come to a party is when Camille makes me have tea with her one thousand stuffed animals.

MIAEw, what?

CELIAYou’re kidding. Wasn’t that half the point? Getting all that juicy shit. How are you going to get anything to your dad?

Georgia smirks.

She pulls out her phone and slowly taps the screen.

Niko, Celia, and Mia look at each other.

NIKOHello?

Georgia passes her phone to him.

51.

Page 53: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Niko gasps.

NIKO (CONT’D)Shut up. Shut your mouth. Right now.

Mia snatches the phone.

MIAHow did you get this! Oh my god, this is way deeper than anything she could show you anyway...

GEORGIAShe keeps it in her closet. I just have to check every couple days to see if she’s written something new. I mean, screw it, right? She made a deal. If she wants to keep telling me she’ll take me to a party “next time” and coming home to drunk to form a sentence... I’m just upholding her end. She left me no choice.

Georgia shrugs and throws back her drink.

Celia grabs the phone from Mia. Her jaw drops.

CELIAHer journal? There’s no way she wants this much exposed. This has to be illegal.

She keeps strolling.

CELIA (CONT’D)But so good...

Georgia grabs her phone back.

GEORGIAShe won’t even know until it’s out anyway. Honestly, I’m not even sure she remembers I’m writing a book.

CELIAYou’re gonna get sued... Right? Wasn’t part of the deal making her look good? There’s no way she wants people knowing this much about her life.

52.

Page 54: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAI looked it up. If I change locations and names enough she can’t claim the public will know it’s about her. And even if they can, she can’t sue for defamation if it’s true.

NIKOSneaky, sneaky bitch.

MIADo you have enough to give your dad?

GEORGIAWell revisiting the bags under my eyes, I’ve been sleeping like 2 hours a night to get this shit done. I used the two days I’ve had off to pull an all-nighter, including this one.

CELIAAnd?

GEORGIAFive chapters. They’re rough as hell, but they get the point across.

NIKOBitch!

Georgia takes a mini-bow.

NIKO (CONT’D)So maybe getting ditched by Elliot was a even bigger blessing than we thought.

GEORGIAUh, yeah. Yeah, I guess.

A beat.

CELIAAnyway. I’m just happy to see you finally found something!

GEORGIADefinitely.

53.

Page 57: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Georgia looks up at Camille. Camille head is hanging down looking at her lap.

Georgia looks down at her notebook, then back up at Camille.

A beat.

Georgia shuts her notebook.

GEORGIA (CONT’D)(sighing)

What would you like to do during lunch?

CAMILLEYou wanna play a game?

GEORGIAWhat kind of game...

CAMILLECan I draw on your pants!?

GEORGIAAbsolutely not. Do you like cards?

CAMILLEHmm. I like go-fish?

GEORGIAWhich one is that again?

CAMILLEI can teach you!

INT. PLAYROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Camille and Georgia sit at the tiny table with a deck of cards. Camille talks with a mouth full of mac n’ cheese.

GEORGIAI get it.

CAMILLEPut your pairs down!

Georgia puts down two pairs. Camille puts down one.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)That’s not fair!

GEORGIAThat’s the game.

CAMILLENo, I wanna win! This game is stupid.

GEORGIAHey! We’re not gonna play more games if you act like you that.

CAMILLEHey!

GEORGIAElliot?

Elliot snaps around. He’s got a bit of scruff.

ELLIOTGeorgia!

Celia gives her a playful punch in the arm.

NIKOCheers, bitch!

They cheers their glasses and take big sips.

CELIAYou messed up people better be my first clients. God knows you need it.

MIAYou’re gonna kill it.

Celia hides her face.

CELIAOkay, okay. Love you guys but I cannot be the center of attention for more than ten seconds. Someone else talk.

NIKOI nominate Georgia. Spill some tea.

63.

Page 65: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAI could spill it... Or, you could read about it hard copy next year because I finished my draft last night.

MIANo way!

GEORGIAWoot woot. With a week to spare for some edits before my parents get home from the book tour.

NIKOBless up. Now you can finally ditch the kid and return to the good life. I’m planning a straight week of doing edibles just to see what happens. You have to join me.

GEORGIAYeah, maybe.

MIAMaybe?

Georgia shrugs.

GEORGIAShe’s not so terrible.

NIKOGood God.

He points to Celia.

NIKO (CONT’D)You with the school. And now you with the babysitting? I physically cannot.

GEORGIAI’m not saying I wanna stay some professional nanny, I just don’t think I should “ditch her” right away.

Niko raspberries. Mia giggles.

GEORGIANothing! I don’t know. We’re just, talking a little bit again. Catching up.

MIAAre you going to see him?

GEORGIAI might take Camille to the park by his office tomorrow. He said he’ll stop by to say hi after work. You know, low pressure, chill, it’s whatever.

Georgia blushes.

NIKOEgh.

CELIAI think it’s great.

NIKOI think it’s psychotic!

GEORGIAThat’s more psychotic than a twenty-five-year-old man still tripping balls every week and selling paintings to his parents?

NIKOOkay, so fun Georgia is clearly dead.

Georgia and Celia roll their eyes.

NIKO (CONT’D)Exactly!

65.

Page 67: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIA (CONT’D)I’m really sorry, Celia.

CELIADon’t be.

Celia gets out of her seat.

CELIA (CONT’D)This isn’t the only bar in Chicago. And I think we have lots to celebrate.

They start walking to the exit.

NIKOGood luck getting around without a car!

MIACan’t they just take an Uber? And isn’t it your mom’s car?

NIKOShut up, Mia.

ELLIOT (CONT’D)Sorry! I just wanted to make sure it was you.

Georgia holds up her hands.

GEORGIAAhah, guilty.

ELLIOTOf being you?

GEORGIAHa, yeah. And probably some other things.

A beat.

ELLIOTWell, I am happy to see you.

GEORGIA Me too, I-

CAMILLEGEORGIA!

Camille darts up to the bench.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)Who are you?

ELLIOTElliot. We met at the café! You’re Camille.

CAMILLEPlease, Georgia!

ELLIOTYeah, please Georgia!

Georgia stares confused between Elliot and Georgia.

A beat.

GEORGIAI call not the monster!

Georgia runs onto the playground.

CAMILLEHey!

Camille runs after her.

Elliot watches them run around the playground. Georgia laughs while Camille tries to get ahead of her.

CAMILLE (CONT’D)Elliot’s the lava monster! Elliot’s the lava monster!

Georgia looks up at Elliot and blushes.

Elliot stands up and starts walking over like a monster. Camille screams.

Camille giggles.

GEORGIASo, um. I can maybe call you again? When Amy gets home?

ELLIOTI think maybe you can.

CAMILLEI’m bored now can we go inside?

Camille walks into the lobby.

GEORGIABye.

Elliot waves.

INT. AMY'S LIVING ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Georgia and Camille walk in.

CAMILLEMommy!

Amy is sitting on the couch in a fancy dress and heels.

Sapphire is across from her barefoot in a snakeskin romper, pouting. She has dark tan lines in streaks around her face and neck.

AMYHi, little flower.

GEORGIAAmy! I didn’t know you’d be home.

AMYI needed to come get you. You’re coming out with me.

GEORGIAWhat? Tonight?

AMYSapphire botched her self tan. You expect me to be seen with that? Around people? With eyes?

SAPPHIREI can wear a turtle neck!

69.

Page 71: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Amy puts her hand over heart like she’s personally offended.

AMYTo a party? No eye contact for the next five minutes. Look away.

Sapphire puts her head down.

SAPPHIREDamnit.

AMYSapphire will stay with Camille.

CAMILLENo!

AMYCamille, be nice to Sapphire and mommy will get you a new dress.

CAMILLEI don’t want a new dress!

AMYWell then figure out what you want and I’ll get it later.

Camille marches to her room.

AMY (CONT’D)Don’t you have that whole deadline ordeal to meet in a month or something, anyway?

GEORGIAA week.

AMYA week! We made a deal, Georgia. I am nothing if not a woman of my word.

Sapphire and Georgia simultaneously cock their heads to the side. Sapphire stifles a snicker.

AMY (CONT’D)We’ve got a lot of socializing to make up for. Come, borrow something of mine.

GEORGIAI really don’t need, uh.

70.

Page 72: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

AMYI thought you quite literally do need? You can’t have anything that exciting to write about yet.

A beat. Georgia’s got nothing.

GEORGIALet’s do it.

AMYGoodie. Come now.

INT. AMY’S BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Georgia looks in Amy’s mirror. She shifts around uncomfortably in a skin tight dress.

AMYNow you just need shoes.

Amy walks into her closet. Georgia watches her run her hand along the shoe wall.

Amy’s hand approaches the journal. Georgia holds her breath.

Amy moves right past it without skipping a beat. She grabs a pair of stilettos.

AMY (CONT’D)Perfect. We’re going to go to a little pre-party, a party party, and an after party. If we’re lucky we’ll find someone doing something on a boat.

GEORGIAThat does sounds pretty fun.

AMYThat’s the spirit!

INT. TOWN CAR - NIGHT

Amy and Georgia sit in the back of the car passing a bottle of champagne back and forth.

The car comes to a stop.

AMYReady?

71.

Page 73: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

They step out in front of a crowded, pink-lit bar with a line out the door behind a velvet rope.

GEORGIAOh god.

Amy waves to the bouncer. He immediately unclips the rope for her.

AMYOne second, Todd!

Amy takes Georgia’s hand.

AMY (CONT’D)We need selfies.

GEORGIA Okay!

Amy stares at her.

AMYHello, you need to take them. My arm looks fat when I hold it out for photos.

GEORGIARight.

Georgia pulls out her phone and opens the camera.

She and Amy strike poses for the camera. Click. Click. Click.

AMYAre they hot? Let me see.

Amy pulls the phone from Georgia’s hand. She starts swiping through photos.

AMY (CONT’D)Ugh, no. Okay... Okay yes, this is a fab one...

GEORGIAOkay, can I just.

Georgia reaches for here phone.

Amy steps back.

AMYHold on... What the hell?

72.

Page 74: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

She holds the screen out to Georgia. It’s a picture of her diary.

Georgia tries to grab the phone again. Amy moves.

Amy starts swiping through photo after photo.

Georgia finally grabs the phone.

GEORGIAAmy, I-

AMYYou absolute conniving parasite. Are you out of your mind? My journal?

GEORGIAI needed information! I needed-

AMYOh, don’t you tell me this is all to go in your little story. No wonder you were so weird about going out. Your “imagination”? please.

GEORGIAI’m not using your name.

AMYOh, well then it’s all okay then!

GEORGIAIt’s not my fault you came home too drunk to talk to me every night!

AMYYou hardly ever asked me anything! I live my life how I live my life. I respected the way you went after this little game, but when you stopped even trying to learn anything from me I figured you just gave up on your absurd little mission to win your daddy’s approval.

73.

Page 75: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAPlease, if you weren’t too far gone by the time you got home, it was only a matter of minutes before something from your magic pill cabinet knocked you out. How else was I supposed to write anything?

AMYHow about by telling your own goddamn story! For someone so self-interested I’m truly shocked you couldn’t come up with anything from your own life.

A beat.

GEORGIASelf-interested? Really? You spend every minute of every day trying to avoid your own daughter.

AMYLike you really care about Camille.

GEORGIAAnd you do?! You spend every minute of every day either trying to avoid her or too drunk to care of her.

AMYI give her everything she wants!

GEORGIAHow could you even pretend to know what she wants! She wants you to tuck her in at night! Play a game, read a book!

AMYDon’t act like you know the first thing about being parent.

GEORGIAI won’t. But I do know about being a child, and yours deserves more.

Amy walks up to Georgia.

AMYShame. ‘Cause you even think about publishing one word of that, and you’ll never be seeing Camille again.

74.

Page 76: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

GEORGIAAmy.

AMYGo. You’re making me nauseous just standing here. And give me my shoes back.

A beat.

AMY (CONT’D)Now.

Georgia steps out of the heels.

GEORGIAI understand if you want to fire me, but don’t completely cut me out of her life entirely. At least let me talk to her one more time.

AMYI told you what you can do.

Amy picks up the heels and turns back to the bouncer.

AMY (CONT’D)Ready, Todd!

Georgia watches Amy disappear into the bar.

Georgia walks barefoot down the sidewalk.

INT. GEORGIA’S LIVING ROOM - DAY

Georgia is curled up on the couch in a sweatsuit watching The Notebook.

Her hair looks like a nest on top of her head.

CELIA (O.S.)Welfare check!

GEORGIANo thank you.

CELIA (O.S.)Come on! I brought you a latte.

Georgia moves like a zombie to the front door.

She unlocks it and turns back around.

75.

Page 77: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

Celia opens the door with a cup in her hand and follows Georgia to the couch.

CELIA (CONT’D)I know it’s been a rough couple days.

GEORGIAMmhhmm.

CELIAHave you talked to Elliot at all?

GEORGIASo I can remind him I’m a terrible person? No, haven’t done that yet.

CELIAYou are not a terrible person.

GEORGIAWhat would you do?

CELIAThat doesn’t matter. All I know is I haven’t seen you more motivated about doing something in years than how I saw you this last month.

Georgia nods.

CELIA (CONT’D)But was that about the book, or was that about Camille?

GEORGIAShh.

CELIAHey, I’m just trying to help.

GEORGIANo, shh.

“Conga” by Miami Sound Machine starts growing louder from the hall.

CELIANo way.

The front door swings open. Mark and Susan, in the flesh, come dancing in.

76.

Page 78: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

SUSANSurprise!

GEORGIAYou’ve gotta be kidding.

SUSANWe got a little homesick so we cut the tour a couple days early!

MARKCleveland will just have to do without me.

Celia stands up.

CELIAUm, I’m gonna step out. I’ll go let Elliot know you’re not dead.

Georgia shakes her head.

Celia squeezes Georgia’s hand.

Celia walks to the door.

SUSANCelia, honey! Stay!

CELIANot tonight, Mrs. Cohen.

Celia exits.

MARKBye, Celia!

Mark pulls two large suitcases and shuts the door.

MARK (CONT’D)I’ll be back in a second to see my little prodigy!

He pauses the music and dances down the hall.

MARK (CONT’D)Come on shake your body, baby...

Susan walks closer to Georgia. Georgia looks up at here with red, puffy eyes.

SUSANOh, Georgie! Oh no.

77.

Page 79: CHILDISH Written by Sally Rubin · Not even skinny ones. Georgia nods. She pantomimes locking her lips and hands the “key” to Niko. Niko pretends to take a bump off it. GEORGIA

She sits next to her on the couch.

Georgia wipes away her mascara.

GEORGIAEverything’s falling apart, mom.

Georgia breaks down crying.

SUSANOh goodness. Here I know just the thing.

Susan stands up.

SUSAN (CONT’D)We got you all kinds of goodies from everywhere we went and-

Georgia grabs her hand and gently pulls her back down.

SUSAN (CONT’D)What?

Georgia shakes her head. She rests her head on Susan’s shoulder.

GEORGIANot right now. I just need this.

SUSANOh, okay...

Mark enters the living room.

MARKWhat’s this!

Georgia looks up at him with watery eyes.

MARK (CONT’D)No no no!

He looks around.

MARK (CONT’D)Here, Susan did you tell her about the all the stuff we got?

Susan makes a slashing gesture at her throat.

MARK (CONT’D)(mouthing)

MARKIf you think missing some deadline I gave you is more important than this kid... That’s on me, Georgia. I’m sorry. I let you down.

Georgia puts her head in her hands.

GEORGIAIt doesn’t even matter after this. I’ve got nothing to say. Nothing worth writing.

MARKWell I certainly don’t think that’s true..

Mark stands up and pats Georgia on the arm.

MARK (CONT’D)Do what you’re gonna do, Georgie. It’s your story to tell.

Georgia looks up from her hands.

MARK (CONT’D)You’ll figure it out.

She straightens up her posture.

He brings it over to Georgia.

ELLIOTCan I please read it now?

Georgia sits down the laptop.

GEORGIAIt’s almost ready. I promise.
