Message from our Club President
We had a fun time at the Marriott on Wednesday. There were seven of us there and we had a great time socializing and solved all the world's problems (NOT). But it was fun just to socialize and have a good lunch. We will be having a NOW (New Optimist Welcome) event Sunday at Suzann Owings' party, bring someone who you would like to introduce to Optimism or just come for the fun and food. POP (Pediatric Oncology Project) is coming along. The UNM Children's Cancer Center is very interested and we will be meeting with them in upcoming weeks. We are trying to get the UNM North Golf course walking path as the venue. Still set for either the 1st or 2nd Saturday in June so put someplace holders in your calendar. We will be honoring Police officers at our first meeting and Fire Fighters at our second meeting in February. Please look forward to attending these meetings and honoring these public servants

La Copita Club Meeting: (Jan. 31st) Members of the Optimist Club of Albuquerque, Sunport and Northwest Clubs joined together for friendship and fellowship and some good conversation along with good food at the Marriott Pyramid on Wednesday. It was the 5th Wednesday gathering of the La Copita Club in honor of Curly Roose a 46 year Charter Member of the Optimist Club of Albuquerque. The conversations covered a number of areas and there were a few jokes and stories told. Thanks to Catherine for setting this meeting up. I am sorry more of you could not join us. Several people commented on the food and how good it was. No one chose a spirit but fun was had anyway. The next La Copita Club meeting is scheduled for May 30th. Hopefully a lot more of you will join us.
Next Optimist Club Meeting: On Wednesday, Feb. 7. This will be our Police Officer
meeting. We will not only have our Police Officer of the Month, but Police Chief Michael Geier will be our feature speaker. It would be nice to have a great turnout so bring lots of friends.

Our next Project Share date is Tuesday, Feb.
13th. Project Share is at St. Martin’s 1201 3rd St.
NW. That is between Mountain and Summer on the
west side of the street. We need 5 or 7 Optimists.
As always we need Drink Mix, Milk, Salad, Salad Dressing, and You!
The Optimist Creed Promise Yourself To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
Police Chief Michael Geier: Be sure to attend the Meeting February 7th. Our speaker will be Interim Chief of Police Michael Geier. Chief Geier’s resume is very impressive and it is easy to see why he was the Mayor’s selection. If you were at the meeting on January 17 you will remember that former APD officer Louie Sanchez spoke very highly about our new Chief and gave a great intro to the Chief’s visit.
Valentine’s Day Party: The February 14, Wednesday noon meeting will also be our Club Valentine’s Day Party. Bring a friend or other significant person and join us for some treats and fun. It will be cupcake Wednesday as well.
NOW Event: There will be a NOW recruitment event this Sunday, February 4th at 404 Dartmouth SE. The event will be from Noon till 3:00. Bring all perspective members and have some fun with us as part of CandleMas. This is a chance to show how Optimist Clubs impact our community and have some fun at the same time.
Can you guess who
this rowdy group is and
what they are about to

And why are Jim Hall

OI Foundation Club Piggy: Thanks to Suzann Owings we are a $100 closer to raising the money for the Bill Gray Memorial. We need about another 50 or 60 dollars. If you were at the last meeting you saw the new larger Club Foundation Piggy. Come help fill her belly with lots of coins and green stuff.
Ronald McDonald House Pull Tabs:
Hopefully by the next Bulletin I will have more information on us doing a monthly event at the house.
28,700 tabs so far this year That number is since October. Bring more tabs.
District Meeting: The next District Meeting will be February 9, 10, 11 here in Albuquerque. This is a great opportunity to get some training and have a little fellowship with your fellow Optimist from around the District. There will be an Opening Ceremony and registration on Friday. There Will be Catch a Rising Star training Saturday morning. Craig Boring the Executive Director of the O.I. Foundation will talk about Club fund raising. There will be awards given out. See Karl receive his Honor Club Presidents Award at the Banquet. See the registration form attached to the email with the newsletter.
Childhood Cancer Campaign: Childhood Cancer is never pleasant. It is not a fight it is a war. One that needs to be won. Research dollars give researchers the tools they need to find a cure and doctors the tools to wage the war on the frontlines. We now have a larger Childhood Cancer jar to make it easier to drop those dollars in. Ask your friends and family to help.
Club Meeting Dates: The Optimist Club of Albuquerque meets weekly. That means we will have regular Club meetings on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesdays of every month. We will have Police Officers at the 1st meeting. A speaker at the second and possible the 3rd. Club Business will be covered at the 4th meeting. If there is a 5th Wednesday in the month then we will call it La Copita Club and it will be optional and just a social gathering not an official meeting. La Copita Club will meet at the Merriott Pyramid Hotel.
