Dear colleagues and friends,
It is our great pleasure to cordially invite you and welcome your participation in
National Conference on “Molecular Insights in Genetics and Biotechnology-Emerging
Trends and Future Prospects”. On the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebration of the
Department of Genetics organized by Department of Genetics & Biotechnology, thOsmania University, Hyderabad, on 27 and 28 February 2017.
The objective of this conference is to cover the current research and discuss the
recent advances in the major fields of Genetics and Biotechnology. Latest research
trends to produce powerful new tools for application in various sectors at an
accelerating pace, particularly health, agriculture and the environment at molecular
level for the benefit of human kind. The motto of this conference is to bring together
leading academicians, scientists, researchers, medical practitioners and various
industry professionals across the globe. This is going to be a great opportunity for the
students to interact and share their views on different aspects of Genetics and
Biotechnology. The conference helps budding researchers to update the knowledge
in new frontiers of Genetics & Biotechnology.
The Department is the first
of its kind in the traditional
Universities. The origin of
the Department of Genetics
at Osmania University can
be traced to the former
Vice-Chancellor, Prof.
D.S.Reddy' s inspiration,
and vision of Dr. Homi J
Bhabha.Osmania University thus became the first University in the country to
start an academic department exclusively devoted to the discipline of Genetics in
1966 with the vision and mission of Prof. O. S. Reddy and Prof. G. M. Reddy
coupled with the help of the University Grants Commission.
For the past five decades, the department has been imparting post-graduate
education and awarded 447 Ph.D's till date in wide-ranging areas of Genetics, from
microbe to man, with modest infrastructure. During this period, revolutionary
development in Genetic analysis with greater sophistication represents one of the th foremost achievements of 20 Century with wider ramification to human health,
stagriculture and industry in the 21 Century. Keeping pace with the advancement of
knowledge, the Department has been updating the curriculum from time to time.
Indeed, Department of Microbiology, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and the
Institute of Genetics & Hospital for Genetics Disease (situated at Begumpet,
Hyderabad) are the offshoots of this Department. The Department of Genetics is also
the nodal centre for P.G. Diploma in Bioinformatics & P.G. in Biotechnology. The Alumni
of the department are also placed in various International and National organizations
who have contributed to the scientific development and societal values.
Founded in 1918 by the Seventh
Nizam of Hyderabad state,
Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan,
Osmania University is the
seventh oldest institution of
higher learning in India, the
third oldest in southern India
