66TH INDEPENDENCE DAY–2012 MESSAGE

President and other members of ECoRWWO, Khurda Road, all the officers

and staff, Representatives of the recognized unions, Members of media, Children,

Ladies and Gentlemen, it gives me immense pleasure to address you all on the

occasion of 66th Independence day. I extend my greetings to you and your family

members.

On this day, let us pay homage to all our leaders who made huge personal

sacrifices to secure freedom for our country. Their sacrifices continue to inspire

generations, as we all unite and rededicate ourselves to make India a vibrant and

progressive nation.

Indian railway has played a pivotal role in the process of social integration

and economic development of free India. East Coast Railway with 5064 Track Km

has emerged over the years as one of the blue chip zones of Indian Railways,

contributing significantly to the development of the country. (Khurda Road

division has a total Track Km. of 1957 (38.6% of total).)

It is a matter of pride for the Division that for its spectacular performance in

2011, it was selected for eight shields including Overall Efficiency Shield

handedover by our General Manager during the Railway Week celebrations in

April, 2012. I am glad to inform you that the first seven months of the year 2012

has seen the division touch greater heights in the field of freight loading and

earnings, passenger earnings, passenger amenities and staff welfare activities. I am

sure we will be able to achieve all the targets set for us with hard work,

determination and a sense of co-operation.

It is indeed a great pleasure to note that freight loading of 42.23 Million

Tonnes has been achieved during January to July 2012, compared to 34.51 Million

Tonnes for the corresponding period of previous year, registering an increase of

22.64%.

The originating freight earnings is ` 2606 crores for the first seven months

of the current year, compared to ` 2008 crores during the corresponding period of

last year, registering a growth of 30%.

The number of passengers carried showed an increase of 5.4% from 25.37

million passengers during this period of last year to 26.74 million passengers in the

current year.

Similarly, the passenger earning registered a growth of 10% from `

253.48 crores during January to July of previous year to ` 278.47 crores in the

current year.

The total earnings during the current year upto July is ` 2921 crores

(Approx.), as against ` 2267 crores during the corresponding period of last year,

showing an improvement of ` 654 crores (i.e.28.8%).

I am happy to inform you that Khurda Road division has, in the

process, surpassed the targets set by headquarters in the fields of originating

loading and earnings in the first four months of the financial year 2012-13.

During this year many passenger amenities have been provided at various

stations:-

Khurda Road station yard remodelling and RRI was commissioned in

June, with two additional platforms and simultaneous reception and

despatch facilities towards Puri. The third line has also been

commissioned between Retang and Khurda Road along with this.

Unreserved Ticketing System[UTS] have been installed at Naranpur,

Ghantikal Nidhipur, Sadashibpur, Radhakishorepur, Salagaon, Charbatia,

Naraj Marthapur, Gurudijhatia, Harichandanpur and Budhapank stations.

UTS is yet to be commissioned at remaining 9 stations ; Sukinda Road,

Baghuapal, Tomka, Tangiriapal, Sagadapata, Chilikdara, Nilkantheswar,

Sitabinji and Basantpur.

The waiting halls at Balugoan, Hindol Road, Ghantikal Nidhipur, Naraj Marthapur, Kaluparaghat, Kendujhargarh, Raghunathpur, Dhenkanal and Angul stations have been improved.

Additional FOBs have been provided at Kaipadar Road, Raghunathpur and Hindol Road stations.

Additional RDSO design platform shelter was provided at 5 stations. The old AC sheets have been replaced with Colour coated galvalume sheets of PF No. 2 &3 at Bhubaneswar. Similarly, the works of improvement to circulating area, raising of platform Nos. 1, 4 & 5 from rail level to high level and extension of platform shelter of PF no. 2 & 3 at Jajpur Keonjhar Road have been completed.

The circulating area of 5 stations (Manjuri Road, Balugaon, Jagannathpur, Kendujhargarh and Sompeta) has been improved.

The Rail level / Mid level PF surface (at PF No.2&3) at Palasa and (PF

No.2&3) at Khurda Road has been raised to high level and extended to

accommodate longer length trains.

The damaged and outdated roof of PF shelters at Brahmapur, Cuttack,

Khurda Road stations has been replaced with galvalume sheet roofing.

Kota stone flooring of PF No.1, 1A & PF No. 2&3 at Palasa station was

completed after raising of Platform. Similarly heavy duty mosaic PF

surfacing was done on PF No.4&5 at Khurda Road station for entire

length of Platform.

Coach summary Boards have been provided at Balugaon, Jajpur

Keonjhar Road and Bhadrak Stations and Coach Indication Boards have

been provided at Bhubaneswar Station.

Touch Screen KIOSK has been provided at Bhubaneswar & Brahmapur stations and Auto announcement system has been provided at Bhadrak.

Keeping in view the cleanliness of environment and passenger hygiene,

the Controlled Discharge Toilet System (CDTS) of all Rajdhani Exp.

coaches & Duronto Exp. coaches has been made functional.

18416/18415 (Puri-Banspani Exp.) has been extended from

BANSAPANI To BARBIL and further the same rake is now going to

Chakradharpur as a separate train.

18417/18418 (Bhubaneswar-Jharsuguda exp.) has been extended from

Jharsuguda to Rourkela.

12892/12891 (Bhubaneswar-Baripada Exp.) has been similarly extended

from BARIPADA to BANGRI POSI.

(c) The following trains have been given new stoppage :

Haldia-Chennai-Haldia weekly superfast Exp. has been provided

Commercial stoppage at Bhubaneswar.

Falaknuma Express has been provided commercial stoppage at Jajpur

Keonjhar Road station.

ANGL-PUI-ANGUL passenger has been provided commercial stoppage

at Kanas Road flag station and

Prasanti express has been provided commercial stoppage at Sompeta

station.

Various Welfare and other Activities undertaken on Khurda Road

Division:

44 employment assistance cases have been processed and employment

granted to the wards of the deceased railway employees.

Accident Free Service Award in favour of 281 eligible employees

pending since 2006 have been paid by conducting a special drive.

Digitization of Service Records of all the employees of KUR division has

been undertaken and is in progress.

Out of 2591 nos. of Pre-2006 Pension Retirement cases received, more

than 80% cases have been certified and PPOs issued. Rest of the cases

are under process and will be completed by 30th September, 2012.

Provident Fund has been fully Computerised and Provident Fund Ledgers

are printed electronically.

Mechanised Cleaning with intensive anti fly and anti mosquito measures

have been organised on the division.

Direct Building Maintenance of 783 staff quarters has been completed.

A New Parcel office has been constructed at Bhubaneswar station to

meet the additional inward and outward traffic requirement.

Automatic signaling system has been commissioned in between

Mancheswar to Bhubaneswar (BBS) on 22.04.2012.

18Nos of manned and un-manned level crossings have been standardized

by provision of standard check rail, repairing to road surface, provision

of caution indicators for increased safety of road users.

Two Limited Height Subways were constructed by eliminating two UM

LCs thereby increasing safety by reducing potential of accidents at level

crossings.

Total 20 bridges have been rebuilt / strengthened during the above

period.

The existing speed of 15 Kmph on first loop lines of CTC-PRDP section

was raised to 30Kmph during the year.

18 units of Type-II & 6 units of Type-IIII quarters have been constructed

at different stations of the division.

Construction of 32 bedded running room at Talcher has been completed.

I am thankful to East Cost Railway Shramik Congress, East Coast Railway

Shramik Union, SC/ST Association, OBC Association, Promotee Officer’s

Association and Officers Association for extending their wholehearted support in day-

to-day functioning of the Division in a peaceful and efficient manner. I am also

thankful to members of ECoRWWO, Khurda Road for rendering their valuable

services to railway staff & their families and local public through various welfare

activities in the field of Education, Adult Literacy, Art, Music & Dance.

On this auspicious occasion, I appeal to all railway men and women to

rededicate themselves to work with sense of responsibility, discipline and integrity,

and with a spirit of cooperation. We must focus all our efforts towards achieving the

goal of providing better services to our customers in a safe and efficient manner and

thereby contribute to the development of our country.
