Welcome! We are so excited for you to join us on our journey through the Rocky Mountains as we look at how Jesus’ power pulls us through. Every day is going to have a combination of videos to watch and hands-on activities to do. Visit riverwoodchapel.org/camp each day to see the new daily route with updated videos and activities. All of our suggested activities will work with 2 or more participants.

1 Chief Engineer + 1 or more campers = A fun Camp Riverwood Home Edition experience!

Chief Engineer – You as the parent, grandparent, etc are your campers’ guide through Camp Riverwood Home Edition. Like the engineer of a train, you are in charge of or responsible for the locomotive(s) as well as the mechanical operation of the train, train speed, and all train handling. You know what is best for your family, so feel free to do the schedule at your own pace and time or even take a different route.

Teams – Each camper is part of a bigger team. Check out your camp kit to see if you are a Silver Speeder or a Blue Bullet! As you participate in the daily stations, you will have opportunities to earn points for your team by answering questions about your camp experience at the Team Ticket Talley at the end of the day, inviting friends, or submitting a photo for the daily Photo Challenge.

Photo Challenge – Each day there will be a different Photo Challenge hidden in one of the stations. Photos can be submitted to [email protected] to earn points for your team. Submitted photos may be posted online or included in a slideshow. (No names will be associated with the children’s pictures.)

Welcome to Day 1 of Camp Riverwood Home Edition! We have an awesome day ahead as we look at how

Jesus’ power helps us do hard things. Trust Jesus!

Today’s adventure includes a surprise visitor in the Bible story, building an egg carton train, racing trains down a track, and more! Kids, follow the direction of your Chief Engineer (aka parent, grandparent, etc). Like the engineer of a train, they are in charge of the locomotive(s) as well as the mechanical operation of the train, train speed, and all train handling. Your family’s Chief Engineer knows what is best for your family to get the most from Camp Riverwood Home Edition, and they may take a different route than in the schedule. Grab your ticket and have a great adventure today!

» Chief engineers: position yourself directly behind the camper, with your hands on their backs, ready to catch them.

Jesus’ power helps us do hard things. Trust Jesus!

Game Option: Train Track Skee BallSupplies: toy train, matchbox car, or various sized balls | books or cardboard to build ramp |

buckets, bowls, boxes, laundry baskets, etc

1. Build the race track.a. Make a launch hill with your couch, pillows, stairs, books, etc.b. Lay out a race path using train tracks or cardboard.

identify point values.

3. Race down the ramp to try and land them into different buckets or bowls and see what points you earn! a. Use trains, matchbox cars, balls etc.b. Take turns until you reach 20 points!

Dig Deeper As hard as you try to keep your life on track, sometimes life goes a different direction than you’d like. Even when life goes off track, Jesus’ power helps us do hard things! It is hard to get your train to go where you want as it rolls down the ramp! But if we trust Jesus, He can help us with our hard things. Just like if we aim where the ramp goes, it will help us reach our target.

Craft Option: Egg Carton TrainSupplies: empty paper towel tube or 2 empty toilet paper rolls, empty egg carton,

9. Play with your train and use the train cars to to carry small toys or figures you have at home.

Dig Deeper Let Jesus be the train engine in your life! Trust Jesus as He pulls us through life’s hard things. Talk about how if we put our trust in Him, He can pull us through hard things like a train engine pulls heavy loads in a train car.

» Preschool: Color your Bible activity page and retell the story using the picture.

2. Starburst ReviewReward campers with a Starburst for every right answer. (Feel free to make up more questions as needed.)

» Where was Paul headed? » What did the sailors do to try to battle this storm? » What did the angel tell Paul? » In what ways could Paul have felt powerless in this story?

3. Pandemic & Hope » Sometimes we go through really hard things – like the pandemic. What is a hard time that you have had (or are feeling right now)?

» What did the girl do because she had hope? What could you do in your hard time if you had hope?

4. Rice Krispies » Watch the mini marshmallows when you make the Rice Krispies treats. As the heat goes up, the marshmallows are going to become a hot, sticky mess. That’s exactly how we can feel sometimes in the middle of a hard situation—a hot sticky mess!

Dig Deeper God doesn’t promise that we won’t have any hard times, but God does promise to always be with us, always be working things out for our good, and to have a purpose and a plan for us. That’s what gives us hope—knowing God loves us and cares for us.

TUESDAYWelcome to Day 2 of Camp Riverwood Home Edition! We have an awesome day ahead as we look at how

Jesus’ power GIVES US HOPE. Trust Jesus! Today’s adventure includes an epic shipwreck, coal Rice Krispies, and more! Chief Engineers, the Snack Station and Bible Activity Station overlap a bit. So feel free to do reorder it in a way that would best jump start conversations. In the Bible station, there are two videos – one is about how Paul in Bible times was able to have hope and the other is about how we can have hope now during hard things like the pandemic. (The Story Maker Pandemic video might be too intense for younger campers.) Grab your ticket and have a blast today!

Chief Engineer, read this to your campers:

2. The Story maker pandemicChief Engineers, you might want to preview this video before showing it to your campers.

TUESDAYGame Option: Hope Ball

Supplies: beach ball or kick ball

While you play, pay attention to what gives you hope to keep playing even if someone scores against you.

1. Stand in a circle.a. Place your feet a little more than shoulder-width apart and close to

your neighbor’s foot on each side.b. If there are only two of you, then stand really close together.

2. Using only one hand, roll the ball between the legs of another person while blocking the ball from going between your own. a. You can use only one arm to play and tuck the other arm behind

your back.b. When someone can’t block the ball and is scored upon, he or she

earns a letter in the word hope. c. When someone reaches all four letters, feel free to shuffle where

you’re standing and start a new round.

3. Add another ball to increase the challenge and fun.

Dig Deeper We face big challenges—some might be so hard that they seem hopeless. But there’s always hope through any challenge when we’re friends with Jesus.

Adventure Station 25 – 30 min

Craft Option: Juice Box BoatSupplies: square shaped empty juice box with straw, paper, scissors, tape, bin of water (sink, bathtub, pool, etc), additional straw for blowing (optional)

1. Make the sail.a. Cut a triangle shape out of paper to tape onto the juice box straw to

make a sail. b. Use the bendy portion of the straw as a guide on what size the

triangle should be. c. Decorate your sail before taping it onto the straw if you would like.

2. Poke the straw sail into the juice box.a. Place the empty juice box on its side so the front of the juice box is

facing up. b. Poke a small hole in the middle of the juice box big enough to put

the straw back in. c. Place the straw with the sail attached into the hole.

3. Now go see if it floats! a. Use a straw to blow on your sail to move your boat around in the

water. b. Try to see if your “wind” can make it sink.

Dig Deeper Recreate the story from today and talk about how Jesus’ power gives us hope when things seems uncertain.

Jesus’ power gives us hope. Trust Jesus!

Neighborhood Connection Station10 min | Supplies: paper, pencils/markers/crayons, envelope,

Because we believe in Jesus, we have hope in our lives everyday. Just like Paul didn’t keep that hope to himself, we shouldn’t either. One way we can share our hope is by caring for others.

1. Pick a neighbor from your neighborhood map. This could be the same family/person from Day 1 or someone different.

2. Write an encouraging note to that family or person and decorate it if you wish. a. Ask your chief engineer for help writing if you need it! b. The note could look something like this:

Dear neighbor,Our family is thinking of you in this time with the covid virus. If we can help you with anything let us know. You are cared for!

c. Maybe include one of your Rice Krispies treats to share!

3. After you have created your encouraging note, put it on your neighbor’s porch or give it to them when you see them outside!

Bible Station – 15 min | Supplies: 2 videos

Bible Activity Station 15 min | Supplies: Tracking With Jesus Bible book (Elementary) or

Bible activity page (Preschool)*, pencils/markers/crayons, The Story Maker book*, paper plate*, 2-3 rubberbands

1. Tracking with Jesus Bible book/Bible activity page » Elementary: Read today’s story in your Tracking with Jesus Bible book and complete the activity page (pgs 28–38).

» Preschool: Color your Bible activity page and retell the story using the picture.

2. The Story Maker book » Read The Story Maker book together. See if you can find the four parts of God’s big plan.

3. Miss the Mark » Color a paper plate to be a target and then shoot rubber bands at the target. The goal is to hit the target every time.

Dig Deeper You will quickly find out that it is impossible to always hit the target! Sometimes the rubber bands go off in the wrong direction.

» To sin means to miss the mark, the target, which for us is to always obey God. God created us, and He knows what is best for us. His rules are for our good. But the Bible tells us that we all choose to disobey God.

» As you try to shoot a rubber band at your target, think about what it means to “miss the mark” and then the gift of forgiveness that God offers to us through Jesus.

Jesus’ power lets us live forever. Trust Jesus! Today’s adventure includes a cooking show, target practice, tie dye, and more! Chief Engineers, throughout the stations today we are unpacking the good news of the gospel – that Jesus died and rose again so that we can be forgiven and live with God forever. There are two videos in today’s Bible Station – one gives an overview of God’s rescue plan and the other digs into why sin is a big deal. Grab your ticket and get ready for an epic adventure!

Game Option: Lead MeSupplies: blindfold, items for barriers in obstacle course

(couch, chairs, pillows, stuffed animals, etc.)

1. Set up an obstacle course in your home or yard using what you have as barriers and things to move around or through. Make it as hard or easy as you would like! Have a start line and a finish line.

2. Line up behind a start line and assign roles.a. The runner is wearing a blindfold.b. The helper stands next to the runner and leads the runner through

the obstacle course to the finish line by either holding their hand or only giving verbal directions.

3. Switch places so you get an opportunity to be both roles.

4. For extra challenge, rearrange some of the obstacles after the runner is already wearing the blindfold.

Dig Deeper It would be hard to do the obstacle course without someone helping you through it! You would be running into things and possibly getting hurt. We needed a helper to guide us safely through just like we need Jesus in our heart to guide us through obstacles in our lives. Jesus will help us through all things in life, and we can live forever with Him!

Adventure Station 25 – 30 min

Craft Option: Tie Dye CrossSupplies: plain white paper towels, scissors, food coloring, plastic cups or Dixie cups,

water, tablecloth

1. Cover the surface of the table with a table cloth that could get messy.

2. Fill the cups about halfway with water. Use a different cup for each color.a. Add several drops of food coloring to each cup. b. The more food coloring the brighter the colors will be.

3. Fold paper towel as shown in the pictures below and cut along the non-folded edge so it is narrower.

4. Dip edges of folded cross into cups. When finished dipping unfold and let dry!

Bible Verse Station – Romans 8:11

7 min | Supplies: 2 videos, animal buddy*, verse coloring page*, pencils/markers/crayons

Dig Deeper When we think about what Jesus did for us by dying on the cross, we can use this fun craft to remind us. Only Jesus is free from sin, like the white paper towel. When we add all the colors ,it is like the sins we have in our hearts. After we are finished and unfold the cross, we see the colors mixing to create a beautiful pattern. Even though sin is not beautiful, when we ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins because He died on the cross in our place, then our lives can be like a beautiful pattern to God.

1. Pull out your neighborhood map again! Take a look: Is there someone in your neighborhood who you don’t know well or are not friends with?

2. Choose a family or person you want to get to know better.

3. Next, brainstorm ideas that you can do to help get to know them better! Make one step towards friendship!

» When you are done, pray and ask Jesus to give you the power to love others in a way that is pleasing to Him.

Dig Deeper It is hard to love others well. But God doesn’t want us to do it on our own. He sent the Holy Spirit to help us. Chief Engineers, circle back later (maybe during dinner, before bedtime, while riding in the car, etc) and talk with your campers about where they saw God help them show love today. Maybe share an opportunity you had today too.

FRIDAYGame Option: Red Light Green Light

Supplies: none

1. Choose one player to be the Stoplight (aka person calling out commands). a. The Stoplight will stand at one end of the game area at least 20 feet

from the other players. b. All the other players line up facing the Stoplight.

2. The Stoplight will face away from the other players and say “Green Light.” At any time the Stoplight can shout “Red Light!” and quickly turn around to face the players.a. “Green Light” – players can move towards the Stoplight whose back

is turned. b. “Red Light” – players must freeze in place and the Stoplight turns to

face the players. If any players are caught moving, the Stoplight will call them out and they go back to the starting line.

3. Continue until a player touches the Stoplight without getting caught moving. They get to be the new Stoplight.

Dig Deeper God’s power helps us know when to stop and when to go. To be a good friend, sometimes we need to learn to “stop” doing some things that might hurt someone’s feelings and say “go” to being kind and loving. Jesus’ power can help us to know what those things are. Just like the Stoplight was giving directions on when to stop and go, Jesus gives us directions on how to be loving and kind.

Adventure Station 25 – 30 min

PHOTO CHALLENGE Take a picture with your volcano or freezing at “Red Light!”

Craft Option: Color Changing VolcanoSupplies: plastic cup (a clear cup will work best), water, 3-4 TBS baking soda, 1 tsp dish soap, ½ – 2 oz washable paint or food coloring, 1 cup vinegar to start each eruption (and a cup for

each time you do it after the first)

1. Mix the base ingredients into a plastic cup. (A clear cup works best to see the eruption.)a. Water – Fill cup 2/3 of the way full.b. 3-4 TBS baking soda c. 1 tsp dish soapd. Washable paint – Choose a primary color if you want to have the

eruptions change colors.

2. Set the cup with the base mixture onto the place you want it to erupt.

3. Pour one cup of vinegar into the plastic cup and watch as it foams over.

4. To change the volcano’s color between erruptions:a. When it stops foaming, add a different primary color to the base

mixture in the plastic cup.b. Stir really well.

5. Add another cup of vinegar to make it errupt again. Feel free to repeat until the base mixture runs out.

Dig Deeper When we know Jesus and He is living in our hearts, His love will overflow into the people around us! His power helps us be good friends. His love inside of us can overflow to our families, friends, and neighbors! Just like the volcano erupts and flows out all over the ground, we can show others Jesus’ love by letting it “overflow” around us too. That can look like a lot of different things – being kind, helping someone, sending someone a card, or telling someone how special they are to you and Jesus! There are lots of ways to be a good friend, and Jesus’ power helps us!

Jesus’ power helps us be good friends. Trust Jesus!
